What next from Ruth ?

Like her or not she will no doubt be missed in the upcoming GE!
(Her resignation will have no influence over my voting intentions!)

Perhaps now she has a baby, she has re-assessed her priorities and genuinely feels she is not so bothered about politics and just wants to be a mum. She won’t be the first or the last to decide that a high -powered career is maybe not the be all and end all.

I'm very disappointed in her 'new baby' ploy. It adds fuel to the fire that women can't hold down a high-ranking job once they've got a family. I'm not sure how difficult a job as an opposition MSP would be anyway. I'm thinking that you don't have any responsibility for policy-making or budgets or anything.

Some people, like my daughter and DIL's, have no choice as to whether to continue working. If they don't, they won't have a roof over their heads!

Being neither a Tory or Scottish I'm not particularly bothered what she does, but I think she's being less than honest.

I think Ruth has never been subject to any particular stress. Her role the Scottish Parliament was to endlessly filibuster and play to the gallery, which she did at every given opportunity, and in a way that convinced the more naive members of the voting public that she was a person of some political substance.
The #Darkmoney bought her a star billing on BBC Scotland and whimsical photo opportunities in the Scottish Press, therefore ensuring that she was never put under any political scrutiny.
The recent goings within her Party at Westminster would have tested her mettle and ultimately exposed her as nothing more that a windbag. Hiding behind 'family commitments' was a cowardly way out but not untypical of her vacuous approach to politics.

I think Ruth Davidson has acted very poorly.
If she doesn't want to stay in her present capacity for political reason, she should be honest and say so, instead of claiming 'family commitments'. More ammunition for those who believe women are unsuitable for top jobs.
It was obvious that having a baby and continuing in a leadership role at such a fraught time would be very difficult, if not impossible, but she does have a wife, the same as most male politicians with young families, and she should have been responsible enough to have considered all the possible implications before undertaking both .
She has let many people down, and I am not a particular supporter of hers.

When the party is run by a lunatic, who can blame them ?

Even for a Conservative there is a limit to how much they will put up with.

I think Kezia Dugdale did something similar when she quit .Who knows whats going on in their minds,neither seemed to know themselves from day to day .
