I know this will be removed, but I shall say it anyway.
Why will people not check their spelling before they post?

Urmstongran Mon 02-Sept-19 18:16:43

UG or UC ??

If me, (UG) I think I’m clear?

varian Mon 02-Sept-19 18:13:33

What are you talking about UC?

Urmstongran Mon 02-Sept-19 18:06:50

Out of jail
Forlorn.

Urmstongran Mon 02-Sept-19 18:06:00

Yes Cindersdad it’s a forlon hope indeed.

I think Boris is not only about to address the nation - he’s letting the E.U. know he means business.

?

Urmstongran Mon 02-Sept-19 18:02:22

Haha varian! Eeyore Hammond needs a ‘let off of jail free card’.

He will be ‘reassured’ and back down.

Whatta surprise.....

It will always be difficult to get the facts across when so many people are conditioned to vote as instructed by the billionaire proprietors of the Daily Express, Daily Mail, Sun and Telegraph.

That newsprint media influence is compounded not only by the bias of the Brexit Broadcasting Corporation, but also by the huge sums being spent covertly online and by the £100,000,000 of our money which the govern, ment has appropriated for their poisonous brexit propaganda.

Nonnie Mon 02-Sept-19 17:18:59

Anja if only!

I think DC is there to achieve Brexit and that is all he wants. I know many who will never vote Conservative again but I wonder if they are attracting new voters, the one who write stupid comments on Twitter and disappear as soon as you ask them why they want to leave. I think it will be good for the LibDems

Cindersdad Mon 02-Sept-19 17:05:23

My forlorn hope is for People's Vote at this stage with the facts honestly explained. If we have a general election then Brexit must be put on hold until afterwards. Hopefully the extremes of both left and right can be sent packing.

Anja Mon 02-Sept-19 16:59:39

Only way to get rid of them is to make voters take an IQ test before being registered to vote ?

jura2 Mon 02-Sept-19 16:57:21

They certainly do not deserve to - hope they don't.

SirChenjin Mon 02-Sept-19 16:52:34

And yet so many of the people you've just described paddy vote for them, their more extreme right winger brothers and sisters in the Brexit Party and for Brexit itself.

paddyann Mon 02-Sept-19 16:47:32

we live in hope of seeing an end to this selfserving ,incompetent party of fools .However they come to their end doesn't matter as long as they do.They are destroying lives daily ...not the lives of the rich mind you, just the people THEY think dont count, the sick ,the poor ,the vulnerable .There will be much celebration when the tory party dies

Ex-chancellor Hammond demands answers from PM ahead of no-deal showdown

But if they deselect all their moderate MPs what will be the difference between the Tory party and the Brexit party? And where will the moderates turn? Yet another new party?

Barmeyoldbat Mon 02-Sept-19 15:50:03

Hopefully it will be the end of them and we will move forward with a party who live in the real world.

yggdrasil Mon 02-Sept-19 15:45:22

Of course they will. You only have to listen to LBC to realise how many people believe what that want to, not what the evidence shows.
The Tories have been around for 300 years or so. Even though what they stand for has changed over time they are 'traditional' now

SirChenjin Mon 02-Sept-19 14:47:24

I think they'll survive - just as the Republicans will survive despite their despot. Whether things like the Union or grassroots moderate support will survive is doubtful imo. I certanly think they're finished here in Scotland.

Conservative columnist Ian Birrell, writing in the "i" laments Johnson's contempt for democracy-

"If nervous MPs have any doubts about putting national interests before their own ambitions, take a look at those hollow-eyed creatures who sit around the Cabinet table like tortured hostages, despite previous condemnations of no-deal departure and proroguing Parliament. However many phoney justifications spew from their mouths, the likes of Matt Hancock, Amber Rudd and Nicky Morgan have demeaned themselves beyond repair while further damaging public faith in politics. Now they are joined by Sajid Javid, the spineless Chancellor forced to watch his staff being sacked by that preening Downing Street aide.

As another former minister Sam Gyimah says, Stalinist talk of purges is not “real conservatism”. Yet this is no longer the real Conservative Party. Such is the rupture caused by Brexit, the Tories have shaken off their noble history to transform into a Faragist force. Some argue it makes sense to focus on older and less educated voters since it is no longer about the economy, stupid, as the electorate becomes less shaped around capital, class or collectivism. Cultural values dominate in this age of identity politics while Brexit intensified educational and generational schisms.

This is true. Yet their mutation into populist nationalism goes against demographic logic. It is a gamble to win the election by uniting older Brexiteers against divided rivals representing generations and voters more comfortable with modernity. This is why they have revived the law-and-order agenda under a rabid Home Secretary, hoping a flick of liberalism and splash of cash might fool a few suckers. And this is why the departure of Ruth Davidson was so significant: she was not only the last influential progressive voice in her party but also a vital bulwark against the Tories turning into an English nationalist party.

We are watching Johnson risking national well being and the Union on the altar of his ambitions, aided by nativist ideologues and self-serving appeasers. And he is destroying the brand of moderate conservatism that won the only Conservative general election majority victory for almost three decades. We must hope there are sufficient Tory MPs left with the backbone, belief in conservatism, sense of decency or simply the patriotic duty to resist his bullying, his lies and his contempt for democracy in this looming fight for all our futures at Westminster."

It is quite extraordinary as the result of the announcement threatening rebel Tories with withdrawing the whip and de-selection, they are doing the very thing that they have spent the last 3 years accusing Labour of doing.

The moderates will haemorrhage.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 02-Sept-19 12:20:53

So all leavers. Assuming all the other political parties are supporting another referendum or remain,

Will you vote for a new type of hard right Tory party which will be culmination of the extreme hard right ambition or stay loyal to and send a message to the moderate Tory party in the new independent MPs.
