UK prime minister Boris Johnson told the nation yesterday, "as we come to that Brexit deadline I am encouraged by the progress we are making."

I asked an EU official whether it was true that there has been progress in talks.

Their response: "No there hasn't."

Actually gg13 Corbyn would jump at an election, but not on Johnson’s terms. That would be mad.

I must admit that I am becoming increasingly "bamboozled" by all the game playing from both sides, have never noticed so many MPs jumping ship.

What happens if a second referendum produces the same result?

Provided it is won fair and square and one if the sides is not found guilty of fraud as in the last referendum, then the country will accept the result, based on full knowledge.

I also think that Johnson is setting Gove up for public humiliation as revenge for preventing him getting the top job last time. Gove is darting about, fibbing his head off, doing what his master tells him. I for one, shall laugh when it all comes crashing down on his grinning head. In the words of the late great Terry Thomas 'They are all an absolute shower'.

I can understand how frustrated and let down you must feel. In my country we voted overwhelming to remain I'm sure you can empathise with how frustrating it is when 1/4 of the whole holds sway ?

Most politicians are not intentional liars. Of course they like us individuals change their stances and views as conditions change or previously unknown or unclear facts become known. However there are serial liars like Johnson, who has built his entire career on saying anything he sees as getting what he wants no matter what.

agreed absthame, most are not liars, but Johnson, we know is one, he has been sacked for it, found out several times, and anyone who believes that he has changed in anyway needs to give their head a wobble. gallusquine yes, it is frustrating, unfair and undemocratic, especially given the misinformation which led to many people's decision.

There is someone in the US who started to count Trump's lies, but gave up when the count went over a thousand (or maybe two thousand)

I watched a TV interview with Gove the other day and counted about ten lies in three minutes, It could just as well have been Dominic Raab or Boris Johnson.

It seems that Cummings just gives them a script full of lies and instructs them to keep repeating them as often as they can on the premise that a lie repeated enough times is eventually perceived as the truth.

Only the most guillible voters will actually believe the lies but they have one vote just like everyone else, so if you keep lying they will vote for you.

Not all MP’s are dishonest. Not all MP’s are a Johnson or Corbyn , thank heaven

There are hell of a lot of gullible voters, who just don’t understand how deals are done, you give and take but you don’t compromise your principles, the concept that we were going to “cherry pick” deals was never going to be conceded.

The backstop is designed to prevent the U.K. taking any unfair advantage in trade through NI, they are not going to concede that either. So the original Brexit concept is in tatters, it was all lies and manipulation, we are not going to gain anything tangible, the whole sorry mess is based on dreams and emotions.

The Barclay brothers, owners of the Daily Telegraph, were found to have interests in Bermuda-based Reid Finance Ltd, and both Andrea Leadsom’s husband and brother-in-law were caught up in the scandal.

Although there’s nothing new in finding high-profile political personalities with dubious financial pasts, it does raise a question over their motivations for leaving the European Union.

That’s very interesting Varian I hadn’t picked up on the disclosure issue, there are going to have a great many high earners in all spheres affected by that. Logically the U.K. is just as concerned about tax avoidance but outside the EU would we follow?.

I agree GG13 I think the general public has had a shock these last three years seeing the self serving MPs doing just what they want to do instead of agreeing to back the referendum results.
Some doing anything they can to avoid us leaving, others sticking out for only an extreme Brexit ( which may in the end become the only way to leave.)
Nobody thought politicians were all that great ( the expenses scandal amongst other things) but this has put the tin lid on it.
Either turnout will be at an all time low in the next GE or voters will make their usual political parties pay for it.
