Corbyn the cowardly chicken been asking for a General election for months now frightened when he's offered one. Hyprocrite.

Simple irritating childishness contributes nothing to the discussion and far from upsetting readers, onl bores them

Far from it mcem it brought a smile to my face smile

Oh dear all the Tories are running scared now that their wonderful PM has been caught in a pincher move!

Corbyn and Co have united the other parties in a temporary coalition to halt this runaway train of a ‘government’ ???

Firecracker123 Mon 09-Sept-19 15:15:10

mcem you just can't seem to stay away from this thread, stop the dramatics , just go on another thread if Corbyn the Chicken offends you lol.

Some posters need to get over themselves it's only Gransnet for goodness sake.

humptydumpty Mon 09-Sept-19 15:30:56

Is there anything really to say about this thread? JC is not running scared, he is one of many who are refusing to support a GE until 'no deal' has been cancelled. What's chicken about that?!!! - this is a non-topic.

lemongrove Mon 09-Sept-19 16:58:13

Johnson knows that a GE will not be accepted again, but it plays well to the media to show that Labour refuse to pick up the gauntlet time after time.

MaizieD Mon 09-Sept-19 17:08:00

The media read by people with more than a vestige of a brain won't be singing Johnson's song.

lemongrove Mon 09-Sept-19 17:14:29

That doesn’t matter when it comes to a GE though.

lemongrove Mon 09-Sept-19 17:14:58

The harm to Labour will be done.

mcem Mon 09-Sept-19 17:16:01

It's only GN!
Yes for once you're right unless like some of us you look beyond this relatively insignificant site and take notice of what's actually going on in the wider world.
Just you stick to your limited horizons but don't try to restrict the views of those of us who are more open-minded and concerned for the future of our own families and for the UK as a whole or its constituent parts (meantime)!

LemonGrove Quote [That doesn’t matter when it comes to a GE though.

The harm to Labour will be done.] End Quote.

Well, I would not bet too heavily on that Lenongrove. Apparently, even with their current lead in the opinion polls, the Cabinet has been shown documents demonstrating that if a General Election were to held now the Tory party would not win an overall majority in the House of Commons,

It also should be remembered that the Tories had a 20% plus lead in the polls at the outset of the 2017 General Election campaign, but even that lead they lost their overall majority in parliament.

lemongrove Mon 09-Sept-19 17:39:52

At the moment, neither Party ( from the polls) would win an
Overall majority, so it will come down to numbers for each
( if the polls hold true.)
The Labour heartlands can’t stand Corbyn now though, and any negative campaign in the media just now ( the chicken)
Could well weaken his image even further.

Grandad1943 Mon 09-Sept-19 17:52:24

lemongrove, in the Labour heartlands in the North of England on Brexit many voted leave.

However, in a General Election where wider issues are in the Public focus polling is demonstrating that those heartlands would again vote Labour as they did in 2017.

That I believe was in the documents shown to Johnson and his Cabinet last week.

mcem Mon 09-Sept-19 18:07:04

Well who'd a thought it?
Feel free to contribute immature and childish posts and jibes - GN will let them stand.

Keep up the high standards of discussion, GNHQ!

Firecracker123 Mon 09-Sept-19 18:13:21

mcem back again seems you just can't help yourself. I think of GN as a trivial site actually and yes there is a big wide world out there so why get so het up over posts and posters on here lighten up a bit.

I hope they're right. Our neighbour is a Labour local councillor, and she told me that her friend in the next ward had lost her seat to a LibDem in the local elections.

mcem Mon 09-Sept-19 18:21:53

I'd take you more seriously FC if your posts were more coherent.
As it is I have no intention of stooping to your level again.

lemongrove Mon 09-Sept-19 18:22:31

That was two years ago...
Labour voters who are angry that Corbyn is now leading a Remain party may not be so forgiving.

Firecracker123 Mon 09-Sept-19 18:25:43

mcem no I might tread on you.

Grandad1943 Mon 09-Sept-19 18:34:18

Fennel, in regard to your post @-18:15 today, it would seem there are many on this forum who state they left the Labour Party on the election of Jeremy Corbyn.

We also seem to be continually hearing of "friends" of forum members who will never vote Labour again due to Corbyn being Party leader.

However, I would remind such persons that when Jeremy Corbyn was elected as leader, the membership of the Labour Party increased by over four hundred thousand.

In the 2017 General Election, the Labour party increased the number of seats it held in the House of Commons and in that deprived the Conservative Party of its overall majority in Parliament.

Sighting local council by-elections or even the European Parliament Elections as any indication of what may happen in a General Election is a very poor pointer I feel, especially in the current ever-changing political situation in Britain.

janipat Mon 09-Sept-19 18:51:29

All those calling for a GE now, why would that be? We had a vote in 2017. Could it be that you think people may have changed their minds in the intervening 2 years? Surely not, nobody is allowed to change their opinion on Brexit which took place over 3 years ago.

varian Mon 09-Sept-19 19:00:44

Watch BBC Parliament Channel to see history in the making.

Fennel Mon 09-Sept-19 19:39:27

it's certainly enthralling to watch today, varian.
No sign of our PM yet though, and not many on the Tory benches .
