The family firm.

Photos of Princess Charlotte's first day at school with her brother Prince George, show us how well their mother, Catherine, has fitted into The Firm.
Delightfully normal and without any pretentious, she and her husband simply get on with life, neither courting nor studiously avoiding the publicity that goes with the job.
She looks wonderful in the pictures taken by the DM and the family is a fitting continuation of our monarchy.

If that's your definition of privileged. ....

Anniebach Fri 13-Sept-19 11:12:27

Privileged? Suppose if one thinks of wealth, but i don’t .

maddyone Fri 13-Sept-19 11:11:27

No trisher, the queen does not live in Buckingham Palace. It is a working building, she stays there during the week when she is working.
Her homes are Sandringham and Balmoral. Windsor Castle is both a home and a working castle, it serves two functions.

No I don't want the rf executed, and I'm sure I speak for many republicans. But I'm totally against having a privileged monarchy which is what we have. Most definitely.
I think some of the anti republican comments are just silly.

trisher Fri 13-Sept-19 11:02:34

Most of Buck House was built by a monarch Annie Only a small town house stood there originally.
I visit Roman forts- doesn't mean I believe in Roman society.
I visit medieval castles and houses-doesn't mean I believe in the feudal system.
maddyone It is not a home Does the Queen not live in Buck House then?

Anniebach Fri 13-Sept-19 10:54:30

I don’t worship at the feet of royalty but the thought of a president, given our politicians? No thanks

Anniebach Fri 13-Sept-19 10:51:26

We could do as Russia did, put them in a room and shoot them, more civilised than chopping off heads ?

Pantglas1 Fri 13-Sept-19 10:48:22

Perhaps they’ve adapted the old saying ‘The only good Indian is a dead Indian’..........

Anniebach Fri 13-Sept-19 10:45:36

Perhaps the fact that the extinct monarchy were executed appeals to the republicans ?

maddyone Fri 13-Sept-19 10:44:43

That seems to be about right Pantglas. Strange isn’t it?

maddyone Fri 13-Sept-19 10:43:40

Indeed Annie. In any case, Buckingham Palace is a working building, housing thousands of offices and officials, plus rooms of state. It is not a home, and does not belong to the royal family.

Pantglas1 Fri 13-Sept-19 10:42:24

So let me get this straight- republicans love visiting palaces of extinct royalty but think that visiting palaces of existing royalty is naff?

maddyone Fri 13-Sept-19 10:41:55

I certainly don’t worship at the feet of royalty, but some of the insults on here, towards the royal family, are simply immature, and unworthy of supposedly mature people. The vitriolic comments are, quite frankly, more worthy of the playground than an online site for older people.

A British monarch didn’t build Buck house

maddyone Fri 13-Sept-19 10:38:21

Versailles is not better than palaces, castles, and country houses in Britain, it’s different.

trisher Fri 13-Sept-19 10:35:43

Oh I don't know. French monarchy spent their cash on creating something like Versailles. Ours managed Buck House (ugh!) and Windsor Castle (hmm). Perhaps indicating that British monarchs have never really had much taste, and continue in the same vein.

Anniebach Fri 13-Sept-19 10:17:13

The queen cannot be held responsible for Versailles being
‘So much better’ than Windsor Castle surely

Anniebach Fri 13-Sept-19 10:14:07

Staff are paid and no profit for the boss !

WadesNan Fri 13-Sept-19 10:10:47

"I'd photograph the devil for the right fee"

How far would you go for the "right fee"?

If a known paedophile asked you to photograph him with his "grandchild" - would you?

If a hunter asked you to photograph him with his "prize" - would you?

Bridgeit Fri 13-Sept-19 10:00:23

Ohh come of it Paddyann , hypocrisy is hypocrisy wither it is yours or the Royal family’s, who apparently are providing you with an opportunity to make money from them.

Anniebach Fri 13-Sept-19 08:45:38

Would you paddyanne ? I wouldn’t, not selling my soul to the devil.

crystaltipps Fri 13-Sept-19 08:11:16

I bet the Queens private chambers aren’t open to the public.. Have you been to Versailles? It’s amazing much better than any of our so called palaces. And they have loads more tourists. Just sayin.

crystaltipps Fri 13-Sept-19 08:09:22

How many American tourists see the Queen?

Pantglas1 Fri 13-Sept-19 07:58:19

I imagine the Queen does the same paddyann........

paddyann Thu 12-Sept-19 23:46:25

Annie as I run a business and pay several wages I'd photograph the devil for the right fee .When I go to work I leave my personal feelings at the door ..as most people in business do .Otherwise there might be a few folk who didn't get paid at the end of the month .You may call it hypocrsy I call it financial sense .
