Not fit for public office, never mind PM. NOT the way to behave in front of international press. Of course, NOT reported in the UK.

Kate forever flicks her hair back. And Charlotte seems to be following in her mum's footsteps.

I guess there must be some training for this type of thing ?

You never, ever see the senior Royals displaying excessive body language . They must be coached somehow. Breathing exercise possibly?

His body language shows to me a lack of containment. Part of the job is to look neat, tidy almost anonymous.

Calendargirl Tue 10-Sept-19 12:07:48

What an unpleasant thread title.

Dinahmo Tue 10-Sept-19 12:01:46

Does anyone remember any other PM fidgeting like that? Can you imagine the Queen fidgeting whilst opening Parliament? I was told not to fidget when a child and assume he must have been told the same.

Labaik Tue 10-Sept-19 11:35:24

Exactly...

graykat Tue 10-Sept-19 11:26:43

Bullingdon bully boy unable to cope with someone putting him in his place.

Labaik Tue 10-Sept-19 11:25:52

From The Irish Times...
But while Johnson was physically present at the adjoining microphone, it’s debatable whether the Taoiseach had his undivided attention. Throughout Varadkar’s polite but pointedly realistic assessment of the Brexit state of play, his guest fidgeted and grimaced and smirked, eyes scanning the rows of journalists as if trying to find a friendly face in the crowd. In contrast, the Taoiseach turned his face towards his fellow leader and listened intently while he spoke.

yes, scroll down to the RTE video

GagaJo Tue 10-Sept-19 11:09:01

Please scroll down to the WHOLE video, not just the meme!

Labaik Tue 10-Sept-19 10:58:17

'Not one to defend Boris but this is clearly doctored.
What do you expect from spoof sites such as skwawkbox?' Of course it's 'doctored'. It's sped up and repeated; but it still happened. This is the picture I took off the internet of the actual event which I found totally embarrassing. I've never seen a politician behave in that way when someone else is speaking. He behaved like a little schoolboy finding himself terribly bored at an event he'd been forced to go to...

trisher Tue 10-Sept-19 10:56:07

If people can't see anything wrong with a PM doing some sort of stretches whilst his opposite number makes a speech I wonder about what is going on? There is such a lot on GN about good manners and one of the standard requirements of that is that you stand still and at least look as if you are listening to someone's speech. Especially when you need that person to reach agreement with you about an important issue. It shows a profound lack of respect, but I suppose it's what we can expect of Boris.

humptydumpty Tue 10-Sept-19 10:44:03

gonegirl confused shock do you realy find that a normal way for a PM to behave in a press conference?!

Gonegirl Tue 10-Sept-19 10:42:24

I don't think he has bitten off more than he can chew. If only the rest of them would give him a chance instead of putting the boot in all the time by getting on their high horses. And even talking about the Nazi regime, as I heard on the Today prog this morning. Now that is bizarre! hmm

Gonegirl Tue 10-Sept-19 10:39:59

Nothing bizarre and nothing weird about it.

EllanVannin Tue 10-Sept-19 10:39:15

He's definitely bitten off more than he can chew and is hiding the fact with his inane waffling. I'm sure that the men in white coats will be on stand-by.

Gonegirl Tue 10-Sept-19 10:37:04

Yes. Ok. It might not be the speeded up video. In fact it must be the one lower down.

But I still can't see anything wrong with it. He's still Boris. He's not going to change to another persona just because he has taken on a heavy role. Could any of us suddenly change their normal mannerisms just "like that"? I don't think so.

That was always going to be an incredibly difficult press conference. Have a heart. Just a bit. hmm

Oopsminty Tue 10-Sept-19 10:31:28

Riverwalk that should be.

Oopsminty Tue 10-Sept-19 10:30:32

Haha! That's funny Riverbank! On the RTE clip you can't see anything but a blurred hand.

Anniebach Tue 10-Sept-19 10:23:57

When does a Corbyn and hides behind a glass door we should be concerned

Riverwalk Tue 10-Sept-19 10:02:16

The clip from RTE, at the bottom of the page, is not doctored and that’s what I based my comment on.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 10-Sept-19 10:01:19

Some people are just "fidgety" by nature.

I know someone like this and they could not keep their limbs still if their life depended on it.

I am not a Boris Johnson fan, but, people are really looking for anything to castigate him for-with.

varian Tue 10-Sept-19 09:59:46

I'm not a fan of Jeremy Hunt who was a dreadful Health Secretary, but he seemed to be doing a better job at the Foreign Office and I think he would at least have looked and acted a bit more like a PM should.

NotSpaghetti Tue 10-Sept-19 09:56:15

I think some of you are looking at the (obviously) doctored repeating video.
I think GagaJo meant us to scroll down to the RTE version.

I don't think that's doctored.
And it may not be as bad (!) but it does show a profound lack of respect and implies a lack of interest in the seriousness of the situation.

Lessismore Tue 10-Sept-19 09:53:03

I am not a fan, but " nutter" isn't great.

I believe he is not up to the job and is unwell.

watching him speak in front of the police was excrutiating

Smileless2012 Tue 10-Sept-19 09:49:37

Like her or not, who can deny TM's strength of character and resilience especially if BJ really is displaying signs of stress after just a few weeks in the job.
