How would that work? Would she have to consult the Speaker about the PM's advice?

Elegran Wed 25-Sept-19 11:30:26

The PM is supposed to take Parliamentary will into account when advising HMQ

Whitewavemark2 Wed 25-Sept-19 11:41:51

I’ve no idea maizie but elegran has a point

Urmstongran Wed 25-Sept-19 12:15:45

Rumpole quite rightly says ‘this is a DEAD Parliament and they SHOULD have the courage to face the electorate. But they won’t.’

Well said Sir.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 25-Sept-19 12:19:07

Parliament simply won’t play Johnson’s game, why should they?

Their absolutely top priority is to stop no deal. Their focus is on the national interest and it’s economy.

MawB Wed 25-Sept-19 12:25:33

Goodness Geoffrey Cox is a slime ball of the first order is he not?
Blustering, patronising, taunting, bullying.
Barry Sheerman (Lab and Co-op) is not usually exactly my cup of tea but I applauded every syllable he uttered.

Urmstongran Wed 25-Sept-19 12:29:40

I adore Geoffrey Cox. Be still my beating heart.
❤️

Steve Baker was wrong or lying when he quoted Lord Sumpter. I heard him and the revolution he was talking about was the revolution trying to be carried out by the shower of a government.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 25-Sept-19 12:33:47

mawb absolutely. Typical of so many a certain type.

MawB Wed 25-Sept-19 12:34:47

Ug how can you?
Pompous, slimy, silver tongued and arrogance personified.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 25-Sept-19 12:36:21

No witness statement given because none wanted to purger themselves

Whitewavemark2 Wed 25-Sept-19 12:38:32

Cox is in the absolutely minority in the legal world relating to written constitution and judicial appointments.

We have no intention of following America and it’s disastrous legal system.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 25-Sept-19 12:39:45

Parliament is dead because Johnson withdrew the whip from so many.

They killed it off but their problem it won’t lie down

MamaCaz Wed 25-Sept-19 12:40:18

My feelings exactly, MawB

Urmstongran Wed 25-Sept-19 12:42:05

I thought poor Barry Sheerman was about to give himself a heart attack, hw as so red in the face and so wound up.

Rumpole then stood up and said ‘I don’t believe the Hon. gentlemen has actually asked me a question!’.

MamaCaz Wed 25-Sept-19 12:45:09

But Rumpole hasn't actually answered any of the questions already put to him, has he?

MawB Wed 25-Sept-19 12:48:12

Well many of us were metaphorically or literally red with anger too at this blatant attempted manipulation of Parliament.
I may admire some people’s gift of rhetoric, but Cox’s “greatest showman ” act is just that - an act. I have seen too many smart arse barristers like him and I saw Baroness Hale yesterday - andwho inspired more respect?

Whitewavemark2 Wed 25-Sept-19 12:52:21

Absolutely maw

They can scream all they like for a GE, but we simply can’t trust them, so they can’t possibly be given their way.

Less levity and more humility indeed

Whitewavemark2 Wed 25-Sept-19 12:53:06

Oh dear the government is doing itself no favours whatsoever

Elegran Wed 25-Sept-19 12:57:38

I have been in the kitchen, with the PC still on in the study with a faint version of the sound of the HoC. I couldn't hear the words, just the tone of Cox's voice. My impression was of rhetoric, pitched to rouse the rabble and intimidate opposition - more Joseph Beltrami than Rumpole.

As you say, the very opposite of Lady Hale's calm delivery, even when reminding a speaker for the third time to keep to the point of the enquiry and not veer off into the past treayment of NI.

Urmstongran Wed 25-Sept-19 13:00:23

I admire Lady Hale too Maw just in a different way! My heart just doesn’t beat faster when she speaks.

I like Rumpole.

And yes, he did answer questions put to him, openly, where he could - within the constraints of his position - even Dominic Grieve concurred.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 25-Sept-19 13:24:09

On to Johnsons misuse of public funds paid to the busty blond.
Blimey, I didn’t realise it was still going going on.

Johnson cant possibly stay.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 25-Sept-19 13:32:25

Peter Kyle MP

I think I understand the Attorney General Geoffrey Cox now. Whenever he gives advice the truth is always the opposite.

He told The Queen prorogation was lawful. It wasn’t.

He’s just said the Commons is ‘dead’, but in truth he’s angry because it’s alive...and kicking!

Whitewavemark2 Wed 25-Sept-19 13:34:39

So much that would have been not open to scrutiny if parliament was still not allowed to sit.

No wonder Johnson wanted to squash it all.

jura2 Wed 25-Sept-19 14:30:15

chickens, turkeys, marshmallows, Dead Parliament-

not any sign of humility - just bombastic booming and rudeness. Appalling. I do wonder what TM is thinking as she sits through it all.
