Brexiters: "We want to have control of our own laws"

Supreme Court: "ok"

Brexiters: "No, no, not like that"

GracesGranMK3 Tue 24-Sept-19 13:01:27

As I understand it if he prologue again it would be immediately unlawful.

If you voted for Brexit because you believed that 'our' judges and 'our' parliament had somehow surrendered power to 'Brussels', you deserve a full explanation of today's events from the people who misled you. You won't get one because they hold you in complete contempt.

At least one big relief in the Brexit saga: the rule of law in the UK is alive & kicking. Parliaments should never be silenced in a real democracy.

I never want to hear Boris Johnson or any other Brexiteer say again that the European Union is undemocratic.'

The whole of Verhofstadt's tweet.

According to the BBC live feed, BJ is to respond around about 12.30.

Best day ever with the ruling in Court. Off with head for telling porkies to the Queen grin

Sometimes it seems that achieving Anarchy (with a capital A) is what the manipulators are working at.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 24-Sept-19 12:16:00

Anyone seen a government representative yet?

Whitewavemark2 Tue 24-Sept-19 12:13:49

Bercow

Prepare for the resumption of the business tomorrow at 11.30 am

urgent questions being given full scope. Government ministers to answer

mcem Tue 24-Sept-19 12:13:33

Some mindless and ignorant posts on twitter.
An accusation that all 11 judges are remainers whose sole purpose is to frustrate brexit!

Whitewavemark2 Tue 24-Sept-19 12:08:44

I would expect it to get pretty ugly by the hard right reacting to the judgement.

We must stand firm against them, or that way lies anarchy

Somewhere in legal London, David Pannick allows himself a slight smile, puts his papers away, and has a cup of tea before staring work on his next case

Ginny42 Tue 24-Sept-19 11:59:39

Surely the Queen would not be coerced again. It seems that the decision now set in law would make any further attempt by BJ and Cummings unlawful before it even got to the Palace gates.

Urmstongran Tue 24-Sept-19 11:59:12

And GGmk3!

A humorous aside. If Boris tries to prorogue again, will HM set the corgis on him?
?

Urmstongran Tue 24-Sept-19 11:57:23

Thank you mcem
?

boheminan Tue 24-Sept-19 11:56:54

Thanks varian for explaining how BJ can't prorogue again (after threatening to). I was a tad confused as to how he could do that if it was ruled illegal in the first place.

GracesGranMK3 Tue 24-Sept-19 11:55:50

Well put Ginny.

Ginny42 Tue 24-Sept-19 11:52:16

11 - nil. I can scarcely believe the unanimous decision. We should take the strength of the words of Lady Hale as proof that democracy may be bruised, but it is far from dead.

She said 'Parliament is not prorogued.' It gives me great hope for the future.

humptydumpty Tue 24-Sept-19 11:52:15

Completely agree with both varian and mcem! We can only hope this has the desired effect on BJ but I have a horrible feeling he will bluster his way through it, and even find some pretext to prorogue again, anything to avoid parliamentary scrutiny - I just hope the queen would not agree again...

Whitewavemark2 Tue 24-Sept-19 11:51:02

gg3 that will do for me?

mcem Tue 24-Sept-19 11:49:47

On a superficial level I am enjoying the drama!
The torrential storm in London is not unlike one of the plagues of Egypt!
Or - what a metaphor! Wash away the corruption and lies!
Ok - a bit ott but extreme situations encourage extreme reactions!!

GracesGranMK3 Tue 24-Sept-19 11:48:43

Tice not twice

varian Tue 24-Sept-19 11:48:23

Today's judgement is the most important ruling for the future of our country.

Only yesterday Boris Johnson refused to rule out another prerogation. I thought the first act when parliament returns would be a law to prevent him doing this again. However, I have just heard Dominic Grieve say that the Supreme Court ruling means that is not needed as, in view of today's judgement, any such attempt would automatically be ruled unlawful.

Our democracy is restored by this fantastic judgement.

What next? I would like to see a VONC in Johnson, a temporary government of national unity to sign the letter to the EU outlawing a no-deal brexit and asking for an extension, preferably a long enough extension for a People's Vote, followed by a general election.

GracesGranMK3 Tue 24-Sept-19 11:48:09

Whitehaven we have just been told it is for Parliament to decide smile.

Twice has suggested Cummings should resign. Now I can certainly agree with that.
