The 4th plinth Trafalgar Square - Duke of Edinburgh anyone?

Gladys Aylward---the missionary who was born in London then who later went to China and rescued many orphaned children from the Japanese invasion there.
The film " Inn of the Sixth Happiness " depicted Gladys's life, a selfless act for such a woman of her small stature but enormous heart. Ill/injured herself while in China she still managed to get all those children through the mountainous region.
Her strong belief in Christianity was then taught to the children in China.
One very brave lady.

Yes to temporary - in this day and age, we seem to slaughter anyone who did good things by fault finding to the nth degree.

really- not the Duke of Edinburgh - so many people who would deserve that honour so much more.

I like the idea of the temporary installations continuing. Why on earth would we want to put up a statue of DofE? What has he done?

I love the temporary installations and think the idea to do that was brave and original. I’m sure it won’t be changed.

I expect this is one of those ideas that is floated to gauge public reaction and if that reaction is unfavourable, the idea is denied as ever having been suggested in the first place. It’s clearly a daft idea - there’s bound to be a statue of him somewhere when he dies but never on the 4th plinth.

Just btw is it just me or does anyone else ever find themselves wondering idly at the moment what would happen re Brexit if he or the Queen died now?
