Clean break brexit
We should not tolerate these lies any longer. Repeating slogans is not intelligent debate and repeating lies does not make them true.
A no-deal brexit must be prevented because it would be disastrous for our country.
Everyone who has been paying attention knows that.
Our EU partners all know that. We don't need to tell them.
Why would any sensible person, let alone a sensible country ever "bite off their nose to spit their face?"
We are not a nation of lemmings or suicidal maniacs.
No deal Brexit can never be taken permanently off the table - otherwise our negotiating power will be reduced to zilch. Those who are calling for this want Brexit to be scrapped completely - lets not make any bones about this, or try to dress it up as anything other than a complete lack of desire to uphold the referendum result.
Labour are definitely running scared - many of their constituencies in their Northern heartlands voted to Leave - its also why their position on Brexit is confused. The parliamentary Labour Party leans heavily towards remain but the wider Labour party does not. Corbyn is damned if he supports remain and damned if he supports any kind of Brexit.
It's not the words themselves (with the odd exception), but how they are being used, the tone and manner in which they are being delivered, and the reaction they are intended to provoke that is offensive.
Labour and the Illiberal Undemocratics don't want a general election they are running scared.
Leavers can say this as much as they like but it doesn't make it true. Nor does it bother Remainers who can see the political strategy going on here. It's Johnson who is desperate for a GE before the end of October because if we don't 'Leave' on 30th October a lot of Leavers are going to be very cross with him...
None of the other parties are going to play Johnson's game because he doesn't actually have much of a hand to play...
Anyway, Bercow has said that it would be impossible to have a GE before early November...
However, Firecracker, if it comforts you to keep on saying it, you just go right ahead. Just bear in mind that it's not upsetting any Remainers on here...
“Can you use words like 'surrender' to describe a certain act or a certain bill?...Quite frankly I think that you can and if you say that you can't then you're kind of impoverishing the language and impoverishing political debate because, after all, the use of that kind of metaphor has been going on for hundreds of years."
Boris today, defending his description of the Benn Act as a "Surrender Bill".
Labour and the Illiberal Undemocratics don't want a general election they are running scared.
None of the other parties trust Boris Johnson. he is a proven liar.
Although they are all eager to fight a general election, they will not agree to an election before we can be sure that the calamatous prospect of a no deal brexit is taken off the table for good.
Hear, hear to Smileless2012
If the cowardly Labour party would back a general election, with parties standing at least partially on their Brexit stance, the voters would have the chance to express their feelings about this and the chimps tea party our parliament has degenerated into. MPs on both sides of the house screaming at each other is simply unacceptable - clearly a new code of conduct is needed.
"Get brexit done" is one of the most dishonest mantras, calculated to deceive folk into thinking that if we left the EU we could go back to life as normal.
In fact the opposite is true.
If we left the EU with a deal, we would then have at least ten, more probably twenty years of wrangling over trade deals, not just with our EU partners but with the countries who have agreements with the EU and the rest of the world. These other countries would all have us over a barrel.
If we left without a deal, then before we could even start on these trade deals, we would have wranglings over the divorce settlement - status of EU national in UK, UK nationals in other EU countries, Northern Ireland border conundrum and how much money we owe the EU.
No trade deals could start before these issues are resolved and so it might be twenty or thirty years before we got back to any positive position.
Most of us GNetters will be dead by then.

Sarahhelenwhitney not sure I understand your post directed at me?
Rufus I've had quite a few laughs this afternoon reading the James Frazer (Dads Army) posts "we're doomed, we're doomed" But yours was the best suggestion ?
Grannygravy13 Who twists your arm to watch/listen.?when there is little if anything you can do about it.
I'm thinking of calling for a referendum on changing from "Gransnet.com" to "Gripesnet.com". Any takers?
Both sides are behaving appallingly. Most Leavers I know don't dare to argue their case because those that disagree with them get so worked up and won't even agree to disagree. I think it is sad that you can't have a genuine wish to leave the EU in its current form without being thought of as a pleb or racist. Posts on here, such as this one and another one are designed to be inflammatory.
Well said Varian
took big parts in school drama productions and they kept giving him big parts to mess up?
The man is interested in nothing but himself.
I am glad that you voted Remain Sheilasue and I hope you still believe that we would never be as well off as we are now if we left and so you would voted to Remain again if you had the opportunity in a People's Vote.
The difference between a People's Vote and the 2016 referendum would be the question, which would not be "leave or remain?" but a choice between an ACHIEVABLE leave option and remain.
The referendum was ill-concieved, fraudulent and won by lies, cheating and foriegn interference. Because of the proven illegality it would have been annulled had it been mandatory instead of advisory.
False pie-in-the-sky promises were made to trick people into thinking we would all be better off, rather than much worse off and there were many different versions of leave. It should have been encumbent on the Leavers to identify a single achievable version before the vote.
I know leave voters like to claim that they knew exactly what they were voting for but they did not. None of us were properly informed of the likely consequences of brexit.
If we have a People's Vote it will not be easy to prevent the same malign forces deceiving people but at least we should all be much better informed.
We have a Sale of Goods Act in this country so that a customer seduced by flashy advertising, who then parts with his money and receives substandard goods can change his mind, cancel the contract and get his money back.
Sadly we will never be able to get back the billions that have been squandered on this brexit nonsense, or the international reputation and goodwill we have lost, but at least we should prevent losing any more by doing the sensible thing for the good of our country and stop brexit ASAP
Is there a yawn emoji?
Don’t get what your going on about. Only going to say as I have said so many times, we had a referendum the leavers won I voted to remain but we are a democracy and we will leave. Eventually. What I cannot understand is why the lib.dems and Labour Party want to fight to stay when they know we are going. If I was voting in an election and the party I voted for didn’t get in we would have to accept that. I didn’t vote conservative but that’s the party that won the election.
Don’t want Corbyn in as a caretaker prime minister because he’s a bloody Marxist but I won’t have a choice.
The language leaders use matters because it sets the tone for public debate. We need to create an environment that enables young people to come forward into our public life. I fear we are failing to do so - @joswinson
