Why are "Leavers" so angry?

Watching Question Time, reading GN and listening to others the anger and ire of those who voted leave astounds me. They are it seems prepared to dump everything to get what they want. A constitution, a legal system, parliamentary democracy mean nothing to them. There is only one small party which is actually campaigning to stop Brexit. One will offer a referendum on a deal and one will (so Johnson says) get a better deal or leave with No Deal. So why are they so aggressive? I can only think that they are actually really upset about what they have done. That they realise the Brexit they were sold and voted for never really existed. That the complications of N. Ireland, the prospect of No Deal and huge shortages and the very real economic strictures have just dawned on them. But rather than admit they were misled and possiby wrong they are reacting by blaming everyone else. It's like a toddler promised pudding who knows he has to eat the main course first but is looking at what is being served and screaming "That's too much and I want my pudding NOW!"

I follow a lot of threads on News and Politics. I stand by what I say. Leavers do get harangued by some remainers.

I dropped out of commenting weeks ago. With one comment from me I got several back saying I was wrong or wanting me to look at link, which in their opinion, was an accurate. Mine wasn't isn't in their opinion.

growstuff's comment to me today was typical of the replies.

just can't be 'asked' for sure

I came home, played catch up on this thread by following the posts. Not that difficult. Even though I’m a Leaver I managed it!
?

lemongrove Sat 28-Sept-19 20:55:22

You seem inordinately hot and bothered growstuff

jura2 Sat 28-Sept-19 20:34:20

what is going on?

growstuff Sat 28-Sept-19 20:28:22

If you've been out, you haven't seen what happened, so can't make any constructive comment either.

growstuff Sat 28-Sept-19 20:26:54

Yes, it does matter. lemongrove has cast aspersions, although it's quite obvious she actually doesn't know. As she has no idea, why write anything at all, unless she wants to cause suspicion and stir up nastiness?

Urmstongran Sat 28-Sept-19 20:22:45

Does it matter growmore? I suspect it’ll be a Remainer. Lots to choose from. Anyway this thread is asking ‘what made Leavers angry’ so I don’t suppose it’s a good idea to wind the Remainers up or we’d have to set up a parallel thread!

I’ve been out so I’m a little confused - is Hollyabby the same as abby?

Urmstongran Sat 28-Sept-19 20:19:12

I’ve been out all afternoon and still playing catch up on this thread.

Excellent post from you too libra thank you for giving your reasons to Leave in such a polite and measured way.

growstuff Sat 28-Sept-19 20:14:37

Go on then lemongrove. Who was the "certain someone"?

Urmstongran Sat 28-Sept-19 20:11:56

Amazing post aprilrose especially as it’s your first too. Thank you for taking the time to set out your personal reasons for voting Leave.

It must be frustrating living in an area that voted Leave by 70%

What about your MP? Does he/she support the majority vote in his/her constituency or have they ‘gone rogue’ telling you it’s ‘for your own good/to save jobs in the area’ etc?

I’m a fellow Leaver. I hope you keep posting!

jura2 Sat 28-Sept-19 19:55:09

oh my, and nowhere to escape. What a nightmare

Whitewavemark2 Sat 28-Sept-19 19:52:31

Probably a contingent from GN???

My in-laws have just arrived in the Med for a short cruise. Oldies only, you know the sort of thing. Not a big ship, a few dozen cabins. At the orientation talk they were warned that all discussion of Brexit is strictly banned. Fights have been breaking out between the Brit OAPs.

LondonGranny Sat 28-Sept-19 19:25:26

oops, that posted while I was still editing it. For clarity, the crosspatch is a leaver.

MaizieD Sat 28-Sept-19 19:24:35

Still baffled...

LondonGranny Sat 28-Sept-19 19:24:17

I haven't read the whole thread as it stands at 18 pages so far. I voted to remain but have leaver, remainer and don't
know friends. Only one of them is angry. He always was a furious red-faced little crosspatch though, about pretty much everything.
To be honest I'm friendlier with his wife and only know him through her. She voted remain but he doesn't know! Not quite sure whether that was a quiet act of rebellion or not.
On the whole we all agree to differ and don't much talk about it.
I can be an angry remainer though. Mainly because I loathe Johnson & Farage. At least Farage has deeply held beliefs though. Johnson just has naked ambition and takes whatever stance he thinks will further his personal ambition. Exactly the same as when he was Mayor.

lemongrove Sat 28-Sept-19 19:09:59

Neither do I MaizieD but it was under our noses on this very page.
Moving on.........

MaizieD Sat 28-Sept-19 19:08:00

I have absolutely no idea, lemon because I don't go nosing round threads looking for gossip fodder.

jura2 Sat 28-Sept-19 19:06:52

been out cutting out trees with my two men ... busy.

Yes, I loved my time in Stoke- and I do think I would still be welcomed again- as said. Some people are not- Stoke voted as it did for a reason. I remember Stoke when it was a dark, dark but busy place. Shelton steel bar still employed 100s, the smoke made me cry- and so did the Potteries and many engineering businesses, like the one I worked for, in the poorest part of the Potteries.

lemongrove Sat 28-Sept-19 18:56:15

Not like you to be out of the loop jura....and do you really think that people in the Stoke area wouldn’t welcome you, because there are friendly people everywhere.

jura2 Sat 28-Sept-19 18:51:51

Do tell lemon- who is Hollyabby??? and who reported her. The suspense is killing me.

lemongrove Sat 28-Sept-19 18:46:48

Draw your own conclusions maizieD ?

MaizieD Sat 28-Sept-19 18:42:05

I knew that a certain someone would report Hollyabby.

Who would that have been, lemon? Don't keep it to yourself, do tell us...

MaizieD Sat 28-Sept-19 18:40:19

Parliament agreed before and after the referendum to honour the result of the vote

No it didn't.

Cameron promised to honour the vote. Cameron is not 'parliament' and, as we have discovered, the PM exceeds their powers if they try to override parliament as he did. He made that 'promise' after the referendum legislation had been passed by parliament and after Parliament had been assured that the vote was only advisory. The truth of the timing and validity of that 'promise' is not an opinion, it is a fact.

And you wonder why Remainers get a bit upset when the truth is twisted and/or disregarded. When we point to the evidence that a statement is untrue, again and again, and again and again the same untruth gets trotted out by the same person. Or they complain that they are being insulted by having their statements questioned.

I could go through most of your post, eazybee and point out the problems with it. But it's just pointless

I would have respect for a Leaver who can point to reasonable and verifiable factual concerns which influenced their Leave vote, but they are few and far between. Mostly it's a series of unevidenced and repetitive rants. It's sad that the lies have been so firmly embedded.

jura2 Sat 28-Sept-19 18:38:39

perhaps I would- because of my profile. Not sure all are- otherwise Stoke would not have voted as it did. Same in other areas which came strongly for Leave.
