Why are "Leavers" so angry?

Watching Question Time, reading GN and listening to others the anger and ire of those who voted leave astounds me. They are it seems prepared to dump everything to get what they want. A constitution, a legal system, parliamentary democracy mean nothing to them. There is only one small party which is actually campaigning to stop Brexit. One will offer a referendum on a deal and one will (so Johnson says) get a better deal or leave with No Deal. So why are they so aggressive? I can only think that they are actually really upset about what they have done. That they realise the Brexit they were sold and voted for never really existed. That the complications of N. Ireland, the prospect of No Deal and huge shortages and the very real economic strictures have just dawned on them. But rather than admit they were misled and possiby wrong they are reacting by blaming everyone else. It's like a toddler promised pudding who knows he has to eat the main course first but is looking at what is being served and screaming "That's too much and I want my pudding NOW!"

Using your analogy I see it as the toddler being told that he could have whatever he wants for tea and then being told there is no tea......

I think the ones who shout out about it are just naturally angry and aggressive. Most of them can't even string together a coherent sentence, so I wonder if they really understand what they're angry about. It's a betrayal of democracy, establishment facists and a global conspiracy, innit?

EllanVannin Fri 27-Sept-19 09:55:04

Empty vessels !

trisher Fri 27-Sept-19 09:56:32

Pantglas2 only one party is saying "No tea" so why would you say that?

growstuff Fri 27-Sept-19 09:57:44

Apart from the pound shorters and hedgies etc., they seem like angry people who were promised a chance to have their own way with the bonus of a gold plated unicorn. I don't think they regret their decision. They're still angry because they realise they were conned, but they're so programmed for Brexit, they can't change track.

growstuff Fri 27-Sept-19 09:58:43

Maybe some of them have finally realised they've been treated like useful vote fodder.

Pantglas2 Fri 27-Sept-19 09:59:19

because they all promised tea?

EllanVannin Fri 27-Sept-19 10:00:40

There's always been aggression over differing politics/religions and, as if it mattered, there always will be.

Granniesunite Fri 27-Sept-19 10:01:07

smile. They want the old days back. I think. Great back in Britain, ect. those days have gone but some of those who voted leave think Brexit will do that not seeing the bigger picture.

lemongrove Fri 27-Sept-19 10:02:08

Pantglas?

growstuff Fri 27-Sept-19 10:02:31

I disagree. Unless alcohol fuelled, I've never witnessed such aggression from so many people.

NanaandGrampy Fri 27-Sept-19 10:06:47

Maybe the aggression comes from the frustration of being told to vote for what you want and then being told actually because the outcome isn’t what we wanted we’ll disregard your vote.

Trisher I feel so distraught about Brexit that I can hardly bear to look at the news at the moment but I totally acknowledge and agree with what you say.

My answer is false news and disinformation and powers behind Brexit that are able to finance the economic breakdown they're looking for, for their own reasons.

This matter should never have been put to the population as a referendum and as a simple in/out question. I now feel that the population of this country are so poorly educated, that our media, especially the tabloids, are so manipulative and allowed to print outright lies without censure, and that we now have a world where anyone can say what they like, make up what they like, challenge what they like. For example, the man reported a while ago challenging Tony Blair and saying he knew as much as he so his view was equally valid.

I found myself in a car with two older women recently and at the mercy of their outrage about a delayed Brexit. 'I was even a Remainer' declared one of them, with a dribble of rage, 'but now I see how the EU are bullying us, that I just want out'. Where did she get her information from? You can guess. As far as I can see, the EU are doing their best to wait politely while the UK implodes.

It's outrageous that these kind of people think they know what they know, despite the fact that they are flying in the face of so many reports by authoritative bodies and businesses setting out with great clarity the disaster a No Deal will lead to, never mind Brexit itself.

I despair, I've started thinking that rule by an educated elite would be preferable to so-called People Power. I fear we are on our way to a Fascist state and I feel helpless.

lemongrove Fri 27-Sept-19 10:08:30

Strange isn’t it? I see the angry ones as the remainers ( certainly on GN.)
They throng onto the political threads and spend half their day typing insults to anyone who doesn’t agree with them.
Which is why it’s almost always remainers who start these angry Brexit related threads.
This particular OP is designed from the off to be angry and contentious.
Take a chill pill.

Haven't you just made yourself the very kind of poster you've just criticised Lemongrove?

lemongrove Fri 27-Sept-19 10:13:09

No.

growstuff Fri 27-Sept-19 10:14:13

I can understand that NanaandGrampy, but have you honestly not considered what the outcomes will be? Leavers were sold a con.

notentirelyallhere Fri 27-Sept-19 10:17:35

Exactly growstuff, the post of N&G shows the kind of limited thinking that should never have been allowed out on the streets. 40 years of a complicated relationship, both trading and cultural, and these people think it can be dismantled with the wave of a wand and with no consequences. I can't bear it.

lemon you can throng along with the best of them.

grapefruitpip Fri 27-Sept-19 10:27:11

N and G makes a fair point. Could anybody outline simply what they perceive as being the advantages of leaving please?

trisher Fri 27-Sept-19 10:27:45

But pantglas if mummy and daddy promise tea and daddy makes it but mummy doesn't that still doesn't mean no tea!

lemongrove Fri 27-Sept-19 10:27:50

.....but I am not at all angry.smile

lemongrove Fri 27-Sept-19 10:29:51

If you all want MPs to calm down with their language and attitudes, then start here on GN by doing the same....just a thought.
