And so we reach end of another momentous week in which a lot happened and nothing changed. Johnson’s deal was just more unicorn-hunting. His promise both to seek & block extension just more Orwellian doublespeak.

The sound you hear from Number 10 is that of panic and defeat.

Oh dear. It’s not looking good for Boris is it? And yet he seems so cheery .... and confident!

It looks as though Johnson’s whistle-stop tour of European capitals next week will be whistling in the wind. Forget the bombastic rhetoric from Number 10. They’re cornered, outmanoeuvred and are about to get mullered.

Johnson has told the courts that he will send the letter requesting an extension on 19 th October.

I assume he wouldn’t lie to the courts? Perjury is a serious offence and carries a prison sentence.

So we can assume that everything else he has said has been a lie.

Doesn't A50 say something to the effect that we leave 'according to the constitutional arrangements of the member state which wishes to leave'? As observance of the Rule of Law is part of our constitution then breaking our law would be contrary to our constitutional arrangements.

I can't see the ECJ having anything to do with or constitutional arrangements. I doubt if that one is a runner...

'I am sure XXX will confirm that EU law overrides UK law.

Once we can agree on that, the Benn Act can not over rule Art 50.

Article 50 says that we will leave the EU at the end of negotiation period either with a negotiated withdrawal agreement or without.

The Benn act however, seeks to remove the ‘without’ from the table, which then makes it in contravention and at odds with what Article 50 and EU law states.

Clearly BJ knows this which is why he says he will abide by the law. '

The massive irony, is that they now say EU Law Trumps UK Law- and that therefore the Benn Act is over-ridden by EU Law. You just could not make it up

You're not the only one who is confused. It wouldn't surprise me if Steve Baker is confused too.

As a I understand it, the government is saying it won't break the law by ignoring the Benn Act, but it's suggesting it's found some kind of loophole.

A source confirms all this means is that Government will obey the law.

It does not mean we will extend.

It does not mean we will stay in the EU beyond Oct 31.

We will leave.
