Johnson’s friend in mystery £700000 loan

I’ve lifted this title from a headline in the Observer.

It isn’t going away this one is it?

Acuri is now the subject of a police investigation.

It has now been revealed that she lent £700000 to her company, shortly before she received a grant of TAX PAYERS MONEY, of £100000.

It is unclear where this £700000 came from.

Her main company Innotech Assets has negative assets of £350000, and Acuri is being sued in the US for $100000 debt.

Questions

How did the DCMS establish that the company was viable?
It has already admitted to waving a rule that any grant should not exceed half of the company’s revenue.

Guidelines say that grants should only be made to companies based in the U.K. This company appears to reside in California.

Acuri listed her place of residence as the U.K., but in fact she resides in the US

Mark Sedwill the top civil servant said that Acuri was given privileged slots on numerous overseas trade trips made by Johnson.

Why?

Len Duval chair of the GLA has written to Johnson demanding an explanation over the decision to award a friend public funds while mayor if London

And even more trouble for Johnson

The Greater London Authority’s monitoring officer has referred Johnson to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, which monitors complaints of police misconduct. Johnson was head of policing and crime, as mayor.

I apologise if my post seemed to trivialise the issue of whether Mr Johnson ensured his friend was given over 100,000 of pubic money , as well as access to other work related benefits she wasn't entitled to.
We are all aware that Mr Johnson has been a serially unfaithfully husband (three times to date, I think) The key and only issue is whether he broke the law when in public office.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 08-Oct-19 19:46:57

I see Johnson’s mayoral diary hasn’t got a single mention of meetings with the “friend with benefits”

Lies lies lies

The sad fact is that there are many voters who not only excuse good old Boris for any sexual shenanigans, but for missapropriating public funds and being in the pay of malicious foreign forces.

I truly don't care what those two got up to- and what kind of 'I didn't have sex with that woman' they did have -

but her answer that it is nobody's business but their own- would only apply if she didn't access huge numbers of contacts and large sums of our hard paid taxes sad maybe she could pay it all back then ...

Iam64 Mon 07-Oct-19 21:51:11

I do try not to be rude about other women but, here goes. Ms Arcuri does look no better than she ought to (sorry, it’s my lAncashire roots showing - so to speak)

Jennifer Arcuri: five unanswered questions after TV interview

The American businesswoman at the centre of an alleged conflict of interest involving Boris Johnson has denied that they had an affair but claimed men fall in love with her easily.

Jennifer Arcuri insisted that she and the prime minister were just friends during his time as London mayor, when she received taxpayer money for projects and joined him on trade missions.

She said: “Men just trip over themselves in front of me. They fall in love with me in about ten minutes. . . because I know what to say. That’s what happens. They go insane around me. They’ve been doing it for years. It’s just what happens.”

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/boris-johnsons-friend-jennifer-arcuri-says-men-fall-for-her-in-ten-minutes-qks7ht77h

Well, if men all fall in love with her in ten minutes, what went wrong when Boris Johnson made all these afternoon visits to her flat and trips abroad with her? She says they were just good friends. Are we to believe he was the only man who didn't fall for her?

Whitewavemark2 Fri 04-Oct-19 18:24:51

She has indicated that she is willing to sell her story. The tabloids must be foaming at the mouth

Are people really so desperate for Brexit that they accept the immoral and corrupt behaviour of Johnson? What ever happened to acceptable moral standards and a return to "British Values" ? Would you stay married to him? Assuming most woujd say not, why are you prepared to accept his behaviour as PM?

Whitewavemark2 Mon 30-Sept-19 20:40:16

Apparently this and other revelations on Johnson’s behaviour is haemorrhaging women’s support.

framilode?????

More news. This has legs and is going to run and run.

The Arcuri revelations get worse and worse. Apart from the 10k from London Mayor, 100k from DCMS, it now turns out
@BorisJohnson
was going to help her set up a £100m tech investment fund thetimes.co.uk/article/prime-ministers-100m-plan-for-former-model-jennifer-arcuri-hk0zt7kff

As someone on the radio said, she was converting his software to hardware.

grin Love the posts on here, they have really made me laugh (as has the post on another thread saying that John Bercow could be the caretaker PM of a unity government to ensure we don't crash out of the EU on Oct 31st).

On a more serious note, though, while it is easy to knock Leave voters for putting up with Johnson and his immoral, unprincipled, dishonest and loutish behaviour, I actually feel far more disgusted by his fellow Tories in Parliament and outside. How his cabinet colleagues especially can continue to support him, beggars belief. They too must be completely without principle. It will be very interesting to see if they are all willing to ditch the last remnants of their self-respect and give him the obligatory standing ovation on Wednesday.

Happiyogi Sun 29-Sept-19 17:30:15

Have we got no self respect left, that we think we 'deserve' a PM who can repeatedly look us in the eye and lie? Brexit notwithstanding, we are being utter fools to tolerate a leader like this. It will pave the way for seriously dreadful times ahead if we fail to stop this behaviour while we still can.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 29-Sept-19 16:50:32

I doesn’t say much for those prepared to vote for him does it?

Their bar must be at rock bottom.

Iam64 Sun 29-Sept-19 16:48:51

varian, I agree with everything on your post at 14.01 today.
Your post at 16.00 had me spluttering over my cup of tea.

What does Johnson have to do to lose the next election? I can’t think of another PM whose behaviour has been so reprehensible in such a short period of time.

varian Sun 29-Sept-19 16:00:23

Can anyone imagine the furore that would have ensued if Theresa May had cheated on her husband, groped young journalists and moved her current fancy man into No 10?

absthame Sun 29-Sept-19 16:00:06

Cats can be mentioned, I would think grin

Dinahmo Sun 29-Sept-19 15:49:39

I don't think anything will turn Johnson's supporters against him. As with Trump, who many Americans admire for his actions, especially those which relate to women, because they would like " a piece of that". Eg when Trump referred to "groping a piece of p---y" (not sure whether the actual word is acceptable on here)

Whitewavemark2 Sun 29-Sept-19 15:34:50

Oh! Johnson has been groping a female journalist thigh.

He’s a tad sexually incontinent isn’t he?

crystaltipps Sun 29-Sept-19 15:12:04

According to BJ he was going to her flat in the afternoons for “technology lessons”, was that showing him how to use his dongle and boosting his hard drive? ?

LondonGranny Sun 29-Sept-19 14:34:36

Apparently it was common knowledge at the time of the grants-giving amongst his friends and her friends that they were having an affair. He has got a long track record for being unable to keep it inside his trousers.

MaizieD Sun 29-Sept-19 14:18:13

I suspect that the answer to that is to not "Get Brexit done"

varian Sun 29-Sept-19 14:01:58

Jura posted "On Andrew Marr he assured us all it was all above board - I wonder if even one Leaver believes that?"

I suspect that almost everyone knows he's lying. He is such a practiced liar that he does it without thinking, as when he told the father of the baby in hospital "there's no press here" when he was standing beside a press cameraman. He knows we know he's lying but he's not bothered that we know.

The problem is that so many leavers just don't care. He can lie, he can have affairs, he can get involved in misappropriating public funds, he can insult judges, mislead the queen, incite violence and get away with it, all because he's "good old Boris" who's going to "get brexit done"

At one time being found guilty of any of these things would have been enough to bring down a politician, but now anything goes. His supporters have lost sight of any decency in their obsession with brexit.

This is the power of populism. Remember Trump, during his election campaign boasting that he could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot someone and they'd still vote for him? I thought at the time it was probably one of the few true things I'd heard him say.

I'd like to ask Leavers "What would Boris Johnson have to do for you not to vote for him?
