You can bet your bottom dollar that the Misses Wax, Lowe, Stevenson and Misters Fry, Rylance et al are not sleeping on the streets, are still driving or being driven in cars and using their electronic gadgets. Still eating foods transported over thousands of miles, still wearing clothes made outside the UK, still not sorting their rubbish as assiduously as the average Brit, still spouting ignorant hypocritical nonsense. They make me sick. All of them, a***** of the first water.
What would you rather they did? Starved or succumbed to dehydration.trisher this is ridiculous and not worthy of you! I've managed not to starve or dehydrate without supporting either BK or McDonalds. There are other food and drink outlets in central London, including some very nice ones that cater for vegetarians and vegans. No they were too lazy to go the distance or too mean to pay more.
Read the link janipat BK is worse than McDonalds. I know it's strange but it is true. Anyway no one is saying you can't have a vegiburger just that the beef used by BK is causing more damage.
Gonegirl I don't think there is anyone thinking BK will pay their workers for not working. But it's OK, while some were shutting down BK other XR contingent were giving McDonald's their custom. That bastion of good practice, not!
Actually (and strangely, I agree) McDonalds are actually more environmentally conscious than BK. What would you rather they did? Starved or succumbed to dehydration. No one is perfect. Everyone has and is abusing the planet. But the biggest abusers like BK and the government need to act. We can all do a little but real action is needed. And don't tell me no one has learned anything or decided to change something because of this protest.
maddyone we may still have a nuclear deterrent but the proliferation of nuclear weapons was restricted, but it is a spurious argument anyway as you have no idea what would have happened without them. As for people eating meat well that's fine. As long as you have no care or compassion for the people aready affected by deforestation and the long term effects on the planet.
I don't actually think closing one branch and losing those workers pay gets the message out. By all means have placards, leaflets, chant, I don't care, but don't stop people who want to pursue a lawful activity from doing so. Take full page adverts in papers, or on the side of buses seems to convince a lot of people!
XR don’t have the right to stop people eating meat! It is unacceptable to target BK for the reasons others have already mentioned. XR’s descendants will not survive longer than anyone else’s descendants, if the earth is uninhabitable it will be uninhabitable for everyone, not everyone except descendants of XR. What a ridiculous suggestion!
Actually janipat that protest didn't work in the long term-check BPAS for info about the government and write to your MP please. But how else do you get the message about places like BK out?
Because they don't eat at BK MissAdventure, possibly quite a few of them are vegetarian or vegan. They also may survive the climate emergency better than your (or my) descendants. (Don't imagine the rich aren't making plans) And informing people is empowering people (you only have to read about the "why" comments on here to realise peole really don't know)
Get with the insults trisher. I agree with protests. For goodness sake I campaigned to get the exclusion zone around the Marie Stopes Ealing clinic. That was subject to protestors (prolife) who thought it was fine to try and stop people going about their lawful business. They had "right on their side" and thought causing distress was perfectly acceptable. They are now able to continue their protests at a distance that doesn't cause harm to the vulnerable. Because I don't agree with XR's methods doesn't mean I don't get the message. Our protest worked, we got the exclusion zone. Nobody lost wages, nobody was prevented from going about their lawful business. I wonder if there is anything they could do that would make you disapprove? Scary thought that you seem willing for them to decide for us all without any consultation.
Perhaps a little more thoughtful than condemning them and their children to a planet en-route to extinction gillybob. Did you read about BK? They could change. They haven't.
