XR have targeted the tube in London this morning, DLR at Canning Town and Shadwell.

They want people to use public transport not cars..........so they target public transport stopping law abiding citizens getting to work.

I think this action has lost them support from the general public.

gonegirl my name on here is pinkquartz

I have spent my life making decisions and taking actions to look after the planet..... so do not berate my comment as too little effort after over 50 years of effort it adds up.

Have you just jumped on the bandwagon Gonegirl?

Actually the little things add up.
i am supporting local farmers and British industry.
I never travel at all.
I have had a lifetime of being worried for the environment. And making choices accordingly
Avoiding chemicals and toxins etc etc
I have never chased after material stuff apart from books.

I think i have made a difference in my life and also my child and my grandchildren.

As far as I know all you have done is cheer on a grandson.
Big deal!

So come on what difference do you make? and have made over 50 years. My challenge to you! GoneGirl

Yup there's no escape from them no matter how far outside the EU they live. grin

Of course there are Remainers everywhere- we are more than half of the population and we cannot ignore such absurdities as the nonsensical term "extreme Remainers"

Gaunt47 Thu 17-Oct-19 19:09:49

How did that happen?!!! Are there remain supporters lurking on every thread?

GrannyGravy13 Thu 17-Oct-19 19:02:43

Can we PLEASE have a news & politics thread without bringing BREXIT into it??????

Gonegirl Thu 17-Oct-19 18:58:41

gringringrin

Jane10 posts - "The more these XR protesters disrupt the more they rile me. Some of their antics just have the effect of making me want to rush out and book flights and generally burn fossil fuels. Contrary, I know and quite irrational but their holier than thou attitude just pisses me off. Its the same with the extreme remainers. "

To some extent I agree about the XR protestors. It seems just wrong for them to be disrupting public transport so that ordinary working people cannot get to work. Mass transport is necessary and much more sustainable than car driving or holiday flights.

But I do take issue with the ridiculous term "extreme remainers".

For the last two and a half years the overwhelming majority of opinion polls have found that the majority of people living the the UK want to remain in the EU. There is nothing extreme about that.

It is just a recognition of the truth that there could never be any form of brexit which would not damage our country and the best possible deal is the one we already have as full members of the European community.

Gonegirl Thu 17-Oct-19 18:46:02

Umm... Am I one of those - well, cows, Jane 10?

Gonegirl Thu 17-Oct-19 18:43:48

What the heck is that about?! confused

jura2 Thu 17-Oct-19 18:38:16

Yes, beneath you indeed - and certainly 'patronising bovine creatures' insults are even further down.

How infantile and daft. Spoilt silly toddler comes to mind. Dish it out ...

Jane10 Thu 17-Oct-19 18:34:54

The more these XR protesters disrupt the more they rile me. Some of their antics just have the effect of making me want to rush out and book flights and generally burn fossil fuels. Contrary, I know and quite irrational but their holier than thou attitude just pisses me off. Its the same with the extreme remainers. The more they go on and on the more I'd be at risk of voting brexit if given another chance.
Obviously, I'll be told this is 'beneath me' by the usual patronising bovine creatures who always know better than anyone else but these are my genuine reactions.

MissAdventure Thu 17-Oct-19 18:02:54

An xr photographer was set upon, but people stopped those who were doing it. (I think by lying on top of him)
He isn't injured.

janipat Thu 17-Oct-19 18:00:45

Do we know that the protestor was injured? Are there any authenticated reports? The dragging him down was perfectly justified, and he did kick out first before a finger was laid on him. If he was attacked while on the ground, then I don't agree with that, but I've not seen any footage that shows this. Angry people looking down and shouting but not physical stuff.

Gonegirl Thu 17-Oct-19 17:59:00

No fight.

Gonegirl Thu 17-Oct-19 17:58:40

I have already said I think this particular demo was wrong.

Eglantine21 Thu 17-Oct-19 17:57:28

Well I guess you identify with the protester who kicked out.

Fight??

Gonegirl Thu 17-Oct-19 17:55:48

But, if you identify with people like that, none of my business.

Gonegirl Thu 17-Oct-19 17:54:24

I'm not defending the protestors here. As I said further up the thread, I think what they did was stupid.

Gonegirl Thu 17-Oct-19 17:53:07

They had to be hauled off him once he was on the ground. They were a mob.

Eglantine21 Thu 17-Oct-19 17:50:24

I’ve watched the video several times. A commuter began to climb onto the train roof. As his head appears the XR protester kicks him. The commuter has not touched the protester in any way. He may have just been going to reason with him.

The violence and “animal behaviour” came first from XR.

To deny it is to deny the truth that they are so keen on.

MissAdventure Thu 17-Oct-19 17:24:05

They removed the obstruction.
Nothing violent that I saw.

Gonegirl Thu 17-Oct-19 17:22:20

I don't like crowd violence, under any circumstances.

MissAdventure Thu 17-Oct-19 17:20:41

I think the commuters showed restraint, considering the amount of disruption they were subjected to.

janipat Thu 17-Oct-19 17:13:14

The instinct to protect your young is strong in most species. One guy is heard to shout that he needs to get to work so he can feed his kids. But hey XR don't care, just more collateral damage. Maybe that protestor who was hauled down can comfort himself he is now collateral damage.

Gonegirl Thu 17-Oct-19 17:06:03

Wouldn't have thought that was enough to turn a human being into a near animal grandad1943.
