Boris Johnson and his lies

The independent think tank UK in a Changing Europe has today found that Johnson's deal would reduce GDP per capita by between 2.3% and 7% over the next decade. This compares with May's deal where the estimate was between 1.9% and 5.5%. They also suggest that a deal would hit public finances by £16bn and £49bn.

Today in parliament Johnson promised that high standards on workers rights an environmental protections will be maintained.

The political declaration can enter UK law but it is only a statement of intent and he can therefore promise the ERG that, if he wins the next election, he will set aside the political declaration and pivot towards deregulation and a sweetheart deal with Trump. The purpose of the ERG is to deregulate at home in order to strike trade deals with the US and emerging markets.

Would someone please explain why he should now be trusted when he has lied throughout the whole of his career. After all, leopards don't change their spots. It would take too long to list all his lies, but here's some, as a reminder:

1. When suspended from the cable car across the Thames, the mechanism apparently failed. Of course, it was deliberately stopped and he claimed it failed for a good photo opportunity.

2. In his manifesto for the London Mayor election he promised that he would ensure that there would be manned ticket offices at every train station. he then agreed to widespread closures in order to fund 24 hour tube trains

3. Also in his manifesto he promised to eradicate rough sleeping - it doubled during his tenure

4. He lied about the reason for proroguing parliament

5. He repeated his lie about the EU regulating the shape of bananas

6. He lied about there being no press when he was at GOS Hospital

Now for the money wasted whilst mayor on vanity projects:

1. Feasibility study into the Garden Bridge - £52 million

2. Cable car £24 million

3. Boris bikes £225 million (original idea Ken Livingstone but BJ implemented it)

4. Water cannon £323,000 - not allowed under UK law, unsold and now scrapped

5. Estuary airport feasibility study £5.2 million

6. Olympic stadium conversion to football pitch for West Ham - £305 million. The club was supposed to contribute £153 million but in the end it only paid £15 million and now pays annual rent of £2.5 million.

7. Routemaster hybrid buses £321.6 million - superseded by the introduction of electric buses. It's USP is now defunct because the doors at the rear "hop on hop off" platforms are closed in moving traffic (and that includes at walking pace)

A few of these projects had small amounts of sponsorship money but most of the costs were funded by the tax payer

Articulate? He rants and shouts and bumbles and stumbles over his words
Popular? Amongst people with a similar moral compass only
A strong team? Of liars and cheats and deceivers who will stop at nothing
He can hold an audience? I refer you to number 2. The rest of us watch him in horror in the same way we watch car crash TV
He isn’t me me me? Google ‘Boris antics’ for a full round up of his most show stopping, clown like, attention seeking behaviour
He is clever? He may know a few Latin phrases but unless you have a low benchmark against which you measure intelligence he’s really not
He can debate? No, he can shout and posture but he lacks the razor sharp wit and insight required to debate effectively

If you hold Boris in high esteem then it’s time to re-evaluate your judgement.

Here I am! A Leaver who likes Boris (sorry)

He is articulate
He is POPULAR
He has a strong team around him
He is decisive- unlike Mrs May
He can hold an audience and entertain (unlike Corbyn who tries, pauses for some laughter at a weak joke, realises he isn’t going to get one so ploughs on)
He isn’t ‘me-me’ (unlike Swinson with that big photo of herself on the LD battle bus!)
He is clever
He can debate

Tories did promise to build 200.000 affordable homes- guess how many they have built so far? (answer is easy ...)

grapefruitpip Thu 21-Nov-19 13:59:00

I can't stand the " clever " thing. There are kids in this country who don't a fraction of the privilege he has had who could run rings round him.

I was talking to one the other day, about 8 years old, funny, bright, quick witted. He had absolutely no money and when I tried to give him a tiny gift ( from the charity shop ) his mum declined.

SirChenjin Thu 21-Nov-19 12:03:16

More lies from the Tories - just when you thought they couldn’t sink any lower they surpass themselves www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-northamptonshire-50501097

Concern for taxpayers money? Ha! angry

Dinahmo Thu 21-Nov-19 11:38:54

gratefruitpip doesn't say much for his expensive education does it. Can't speak in coherent sentences.

Lovetopaint037 Thu 21-Nov-19 09:49:07

I too despair. No matter what he does, no matter how many lies he tells he comes up smelling of roses. I have heard “he is fun” and “he is soooo clever”, the latter based probably on the Latin/Greek phrases he throws out. He is known to be unable to focus on detail which is why that poor woman imprisoned in Iran had her sentence extended. Max Hastings has said he wouldn’t trust him to tell him the day of the week etc etc but never mind he says he will get Brexit “done”which is the biggest lie yet. I can’t vote for Corbyn and I definitely won’t be voting for Johnson so am left with the Lib Dem’s.

jura2 Thu 21-Nov-19 09:30:46

if people continue to support him, then there are only two possible reasons

a) they are willingly complicit in his lies and deception, and don't care

b) I'll leave that to your imagination, as I always try and be polite

Lies, lies and more lies

I think we've lost all our 'Leaver' posters... hmm

They keep insisting that they're not 'stupid'. But if they have any level of intelligence they must surely be squirming with embarrassment at having to support such a charlatan in order to get their precious Brexit done (only it won't be 'done', it'll drag on for ever)?

growstuff Thu 21-Nov-19 09:18:48

The stupid ones are those who still vote for him, knowing what they do.

grapefruitpip Thu 21-Nov-19 08:26:49

WW, the moral compass is stuffed up the rear end. Me , me ,me it's all about me. The cult of the individual, started by Thatcher.

grapefruitpip Thu 21-Nov-19 08:25:11

WW, he is a blustering fool and a liar and an entitled knob. However the Sun, the Mail et al have done their job.

What sort of surprises me about him, is his inability to speak clearly.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 21-Nov-19 08:21:38

Johnson wouldn’t win without the complicity if the MSM who refuse to call out his lies.

My car cleaner and his wife have absolutely no interest in politics at all, but do vote. They take the Sun, and if they mention politics they talk in Sun headlines, that is why Johnson will win, because there are millions of voters out there, whose only information if from the MSM.

He is stupid and a liar.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 21-Nov-19 08:17:07

More lies.

Sajid Javid goes for an early lead on #BBCBreakfast refusing to say that #LiarJohnson lied when he said yesterday that raising the NI threshold to £9500 would mean an extra £500 PA for taxpayers when in fact it’s only £85 PA. Nice try Dobby!

growstuff Thu 21-Nov-19 08:12:33

Somebody who wins an election, despite his obvious flaws, isn't stupid.

growstuff Thu 21-Nov-19 08:11:11

Yes, I do agree with the other descriptions, but it would appear to be irrelevant. The really stupid people are those who are duped by him or have so little moral compass that they don't care.

Sadly, the Conservatives will win this election - the only question is whether they will have an overall majority.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 21-Nov-19 07:58:21

growstuff I assume you agree with all the other descriptions of his character? ?

Whitewavemark2 Thu 21-Nov-19 07:53:48

growstuff we differ on that opinion

growstuff Thu 21-Nov-19 07:46:58

Johnson isn't stupid.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 21-Nov-19 07:36:30

Who is the more stupid? Johnson who thinks that his lying will go unnoticed or the person who is willing to vote for a mendacious, immoral, racist and misogynist as Prime minister.

Where is everyone’s moral compass?

Just copy the link and paste it into your message, Labaik. Gnet does the rest. It's really simple.

I'd sign the petition...

Labaik Wed 20-Nov-19 14:15:49

There is a petition about this deceit but I don't know how to do a link.....

Labaik Wed 20-Nov-19 14:05:56

Strangely enough I've been saying on social media for quite a while [and people have been agreeing with me] that debates like this should be immediately fact checked. D'you think the Conservative party have been reading those threads? Social media might be a good way to spread fake news but they must be running scared of genuine fact check organisations. People that don't use facebook or twitter have no idea how influential those things are.
