Am I the only one who is sick and tired of Brexit. I am not into politics or wanting a debate. I just want things to get back to normal

petra Mon 21-Oct-19 13:13:41

I hope this makes everyone laugh as much as it did me.

The year is 2192 The British Prime Minister visits Brussels to ask for an extension of the Brexit deadline.
No one remembers where this tradition originated from, but every year it attracts many tourists from all over the world.

Mcrc Mon 21-Oct-19 12:52:33

Not about Brexit in US but can you imagine the annoyance we have had for four years? I have no problem with our president because the policies have Helped us. I respect the office and know it is a lot more than just pleasing people. Our press stretches "the truth" so I either watch Netflix or nothing. Our family has been splintered somewhat and I hate it!

Labaik Mon 21-Oct-19 12:44:47

ALANaV; should I go to see Farmaggedon to cheer myself up or do you think it might make me even more confused/scared/angry than I am now?

Jaycee5 Mon 21-Oct-19 12:25:07

aprilrose I should have read the whole thread before commenting.
Ignore my third paragraph.

Jaycee5 Mon 21-Oct-19 12:22:36

aprilrose That is awful. When you talk about the abuse Leave voters get, you usually just get more.
The people I know personally who have voted differently have all been civil and frankly we don't really discuss it any more because everyone has already made their decision and there is nothing that people can do while the politicians try to do it without doing it.
Did your husband speak to you like that on other issues (not that it is ok if he didn't). It sounds like this may have brought some problems to a head.
I am fed up with Brexit, particularly when it gets brought up on totally unrelated comments or when people believe that it is the only issue when we do eventually come to an election despite everything else that has been happening to this country.
I have to admit that I am now totally confused by all the machinations in Parliament.

Rosina Mon 21-Oct-19 11:51:41 They hold all the cards because they have far greater buying power than we do. We have seen that the offer of a deal is on their terms simply because they are in the strongest position. We need their trade more than they need ours, it really is very simple, 27 countries have more buying power than one.

I appreciate that this might be a matter of opinion but one indisputable fact is that the £ has lost 20% since the vote because the markets know Brexit is bad for the UK.

I voted / Remain and would still do so. How could ANYONE leave or remain, make such an important life changing decision based on two words on a sheet of paper LEAVE or REMAIN with absolutely No plan, No explanation and really no idea !!!!! Cameron is entirely to blame and this shambolic 'government' has made the entire process worse by treating it as a bun fight in the dorm ….get back to serious discussion and cut out Johnson's dictatorship before his Nanny sits him on the naughty step. this is peoples LIVES he is playing with. I went to see Farmageddon yesterday ….why did it remind me of No. 10 ...just a pity we can't send the lot of them to the moon ...but they would probably destroy that as well …..'Oooh I say look ,,,we can see Earth from here ….we destroyed it ...oh goody what shall we do next for fun;...….……..grrrrrrr

Rosina Mon 21-Oct-19 11:51:41

Why do they have all the cards? It seems they desperately need our money - we are one of the biggest contributors - and if we do leave without a deal, what are they going to do? Throw us out?

Mervyn King, former Governor of the Bank of England, was on TV recently and basically said 'Walk away'.

Craftycat Mon 21-Oct-19 11:51:11

No you are not alone! Just get us OUT as quickly as possible so we can start to re-build our wonderful country!

Briton's view of the importance of the EU 2006 - 2016

moorlikeit Mon 21-Oct-19 11:33:30

"I will never forgive Cameron for opening this Pandora’s box, apart from the odd moan about straight bananas I never heard much about our ‘apparent’ hatred of EU before he did that."

I'm with BlueBelle on this 100%.

What makes me laugh (or cry) is the idea of a "no Brexit deal" - as if that is even possible. The EU will not let us off what we owe them and have all the cards, so there is zero possibility of simply walking away. Utter nonsense from a load of Eton fools.

Our generation has lived through 2 world wars and survived we will survive with or without being affiliated to our European neighbours.

Blimey, nipsmum. Just how old are you? I didn't even live through WW2...

Personally, I'd like a little more than just 'survival' for my children and grandchildren.

nipsmum Mon 21-Oct-19 11:06:54

If I remember it properly the vote when we went into Europe in the 70 s needed a clear 25% majority or it would not happen. It worked then why not now or something along similar line in what ever direction the politicians choose. Just get it done and give us all a degree of peace. Life will go on whatever the outcome. Our generation has lived through 2 world wars and survived we will survive with or without being affiliated to our European neighbours.

Well, it's a fascinating immersion in UK and EU politics, that's for sure! But if we leave, there's going to be a lot more of it around, for at least another 18 months on the current deal, as the actual trade negotiations take place...

Rosina Mon 21-Oct-19 10:53:37

Yes - utterly, utterly sick of it. I thought I was fairly adult and had a decent grasp of politics, and the world around me, and could listen, reason and debate current affairs, but I have now been reduced to sticking my fingers in my ears and going 'LALALALALALA' at the top of my voice if anyone starts talking about the b****y B word. I am ashamed of our politicians, disgusted with their posturing and party politics, and would like to hit John Bercow very hard round the back of the neck with something squashy and horrible. There. Who started me on this...?

Nonnie Mon 21-Oct-19 10:49:30

MaizieD so much has happened on this thread since I last looked. As I was reading through I had so many answers and then read that you had already done the work for me. Thank you.

crystaltipps Mon 21-Oct-19 03:17:02 you missed some things out grin Great post.

Remain or Leave once Brexit is over and done with THEN the real negotiations will have to start and will take years either way. It is a far from simple matter and I wish people who say they just want it over and done with would realise this. It's like anything worth doing it's worth doing properly or it will be even worse in the long run. People have genuine worries about crashing out. I am personally terrified, if I am unable to get my meds I will be dead within a day or two. Crashing out will only benefit a handful of hedge fund managers who have already made a killing and the likes of Rees Mogg, and will have a terrible effect on the other 99.9% of us. Just so it will be over and done with quickly? Which it wont anyway. Why should MP's sign up to anything they haven't had time to look at thoroughly, a rushed job on a Saturday morning is not what was needed. Yes business is losing money over the delay but that is nothing compared to the billions that will be lost if we have a rubbish rushed deal or a crash out.

annab275 Mon 21-Oct-19 10:42:20

my daughter and I were discussing this yesterday. We are both remainers but my OH and son are leavers. We now see each other's points of view and can recognise reasons to vote on either side. There is no right or wrong, black or white. How are we supposed to know how things will turn out? What is the real concern is the divisiveness and venom of people. They need to get over themselves. We will deal with whatever situation we are in, because we have to.

newnanny Mon 21-Oct-19 10:39:24

There is a Sky news channel that is now dedicated to news without mentioning the B work.

Nonnie Mon 21-Oct-19 10:37:35

Urmstongran Sun 20-Oct-19 17:44:24 I'm not getting into a discussion about this until you answer my question - please tell me 3 ways you and your family will be better off if we leave the EU? Thanks

I don't think the EU is perfect but, if you weigh up the options like a balance sheet, it is quite clear we are better off in than out.

Nonnie Mon 21-Oct-19 10:33:37

aprilrose Sun 20-Oct-19 17:35:14 why so nasty? Are you another leaver who can't give me three reasons they think they would be better off outside the EU? Reasoned debate always works better than rudeness.
