I would just like one thread for brexiters only please.
I voted leave. I would vote leave again and again and again. There has been nothing to change my mind. I have been hardened by the views of remainers.
I would really like to talk to other brexit minded posters.
Thanks.
suziewoozie??
So if anyone wants to know why leavers aren't prepared to give their reasons just read growstuff's post of 15.52.
"cucumbers, bananas, blue passports, Turkish horders, an EU army or being forced to eat foreign food" a lot of which I enjoy by the way, had nothing to do with it.
One only has to look at some of the posts on this thread from remainers to see that there isn't a desire for a sensible and mature discussion. "Ah well!! Never mind!"
Do you mean a loan from the European Central Bank? Well, that's capitalism for you. Companies go where the labour costs are lowest. Did Dyson receive a ECB loan?
Ah well! Never mind! I'm sure the op will feel better when another few hundred thousand have lost their jobs.
But they don't think they've messed up anyone's lives, growstuff.
Lost jobs, businesses relocating to Europe, EU citizens jumping through hoops to get recognition of their settled status, EU citizens fleeing the NHS, slowdown in growth, falling pound... pfft.. nothing to do with Brexit
Aha! Glad to hear it. I wasn't here three years ago, so I'm assuming your reasons were about bendy bananas or something, which I don't find very persuasive.
yggdrasil, the OP did give her reasons for voting leave very recently. As I recall, they were because her DH lost his job when his employer relocated to Eastern Europe with the aid of an EU grant. And because the UK has been going to the dogs ever since the 1970s when we joined Europe. There was another one but I can't recall it.
Any reasonable person who had voted to mess up the lives of nearly half the country might think it fair to explain their case. You never know! The other half might be reasonably and you might actually convince them that you had a valid argument rather than some gut feeling based on cucumbers, bananas, blue passports, Turkish hordes, an EU army or being forced to eat foreign food.
My reasons were very plausible growstuff but they were reasons for wanting to leave.
It'll be interesting to see how the FTA deals with our fishermen's trade with the EU, seeing that most of their catch is sold to continental Europe. ('cos the Brits won't eat all those alien species). We import most of our fish...
Why were you derided Smileless? Weren't your reasons very plausible?
I'm waiting to see what happens with the quotas the British sold to furrin fisherman. Presumably they'll need to be compensated, if British fisherman are going to take back control. Otherwise, beware of fishing boat wars off our coast! Maybe it would have been different if the UK's representative on the EU Fisheries Committee had ever attended meetings
.
I don't know why there's this apparent obsession from some, for a list of reasons from those who voted leave.
I and many others gave my reasons just after the referendum. I was derided at the time by some, as were others and have no intentions of putting myself in that position again.
If you're really that interested yygsdrasil maybe you can go back 3 plus years and find the threads that were on the go then and read them.
Your post april has taken the meaning of patronising to a whole new level ?
More good news..'.Brexiteers have long hailed the “sea of opportunity” that awaits British fishermen and women after the UK leaves the EU — but now it has emerged that their boats will be monitored by a French company.
The business that won the tender to track UK fishing vessels wherever they operate, as well as foreign-licensed boats in British waters, is Collecte Localisation Satellites (CLS),
a French maritime surveillance provider.
The contract was awarded by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) in late summer having previously been held by a British firm, Globavista'. Wow, we're taking back so much control it's frightening [truly frightening.....]
AR You started this thread "I voted leave. I would vote leave again and again and again. There has been nothing to change my mind. "
Now you say " I have given my reasons in several places, as have others because I have seen their posts."
I haven't seen these reasons. That's why I keep asking. The only reasons I have seen have made no sense, like the straight bananas claim, or the woman who objected to the EU saying fish and chips should not be served in used newspaper. While I accept there are people like that, I can't believe all of the 52% don't have real reasons. So why won't you explain yours?
No, Maw, I am just trying to keep it going a bit. I feel a responsibility in that I started it and a lot of people have come out and admitted to being leavers. I feel for them and I know it has taken a lot of courage.
I would prefer that any flack from remainers falls on me rather than them. Its not an ownership thing in any way at all. You have totally misread my motives.
Aprilrose you seem to be assuming a responsibility and some sort of ownership of this thread. You are not (as far as I know) any sort of moderator, nor do you have any say so over those commenting, whether they are of your school of thought or not.
There is a note of self- importance, of gloating even which IMO does not belong on a forum of equals.
Thank you for dropping by GillT57. I hope you enjoy your discussions with the tribe you are off to join. No doubt you will be laughing and learning from those whose views you share or whose views go a little further down the same path you are already travelling.
If you cannot learn anything here, I would fully endorse that you would want to go elsewhere. Hope you enjoy the company of those like minded others . We all seek like minded others. There is no need to justify it, deny it or make a point of telling us about it. Its OK.
Enjoy your cabbage and dumplings!
Might I suggest you take a step back and read this thread as an "outsider" because it honestly does seem like a satire.
^I asked for the reasons why voting leave was so important to AR. (I didn't want a debate, just some sort of understanding.) But as always, it seems to come down to 'It just is'.
And that goes for all other Leavers here too^
I had not realised at the time that your question was addressed to a particular person. I am sorry, I should not have replied at all.
However, since you have now opened it up to "All Leavers", I will say that I see no reason to go over old territory here. I have given my reasons in several places, as have others because I have seen their posts. It seems that for some reason there are some people who just cannot accept the views given. I am afraid that is their problem.
We are all entitled to our opinions, just as we are all entitled to one vote. I exercised mine with 17.4 milllion others and that vote said we should leave. The time for discussing why has long since passed.
well, having read the first four pages and feeling a bit nauseous at the self adoration and mutual assurances that 'they got it right', I shall now leave this thread ( just popped in to say that), I will go where people choose to discuss, debate, laugh and generally learn from each other, there is not much of that on this rather silly and provocative thread. I will meet up with some of you in the adult section.
There are plenty of pro Brexit facebook pages Alexa but they really are not pleasant places to be
That is in my pinion not an appropriate comment. It is tantamount to actually saying "Go elsewhere". WE have had this out before. Not everyone has facebook or similar accounts.
Why should people have to leave because they do not agree with you? Why do you feel the need to destroy the pleasant conversations that take place here by telling people to go somewhere else? This is an open forum. You have many threads for discussing remain political views. I know you use them. This is a place for discussing leave views.
We all like to get together with like - minded people. Call it tribalism if you want. There is nothing wrong with that. In fact GN wouldnt exist if there were no people who felt they shared a connection of being grandparent age. We may as well all be on Mumsnet or indeed on facebook.
I imagine there may well be lots of remain minded groups on Facebook too. I would not suggest anyone leave this place to find their satisfaction on FB , but if the cap fits, maybe wear it rather than telling others to do so?
Meanwhile, back at the ranch. I have to go and put on a snack for myself ( have not had lunch) and start dinner for this evening. I shall be serving British food. I make a point of buying British. Its good value and we have higher standards that the EU in our farm husbandry. Our farmers are more efficient with it too. Lets all help our own farmers rather than the exports of other countries.
^ I agree that there is no need to discuss or validate our decisions^
No-one is asking you to do that. Just asking Leavers to tell us how leaving is going to improve our lives.
How can anyone express pious hopes of reconciliation and moving forward without telling us why it's going to happen? What is going to reconcile us?
I'm popping in as a leaver who would vote that way again. I'm also here to let aprilrose know that some of us do feel the same way and I agree that there is no need to discuss or validate our decisions - I did all that three years ago. Since then, my husband and three of my adult children have changed their view and would now vote to leave. So I'm only here to be counted. I wouldn't dream of berating remainers, nor am I interested in changing their minds. My family changed their own opinions over time and we all respected each others original stance.
I agree, MawB.
