It is October 31st. Why do I think something should be happening?

What a buffoon we have as premier.

grapefruitpip Thu 31-Oct-19 13:22:31 I had no idea it had become so complicated!

suzied Thu 31-Oct-19 15:17:50 you are so right. If parliament has 'thwarted' Brexit that is what they are for. It is their job to stop the government harming our country and anyone who thinks that is wrong should think again.

I wonder how many of those who are not standing at the GE are doing so because their consciences won't allow them to follow the party line? Such a shame.

not caring for democratic referendums - think that was Urmston on this occasion but a frequent mantra.

Please can someone explain why they think it would be "undemocratic" to have a second referendum because some people are dissatisfied with the result of the first, but find it perfectly OK to have another general election because some people are dissatisfied with the result of the democratically election less than 18 months ago. I don't follow this thinking.

Neither do I winter. It is as if there is one rule for one thing, and another for a different thing. Just how many times has the withdrawal bill been voted on? It only changed for the worse with the last one. I wish I understood why they want to leave anyone but, because no one will tell me, I believe we need a referendum to find out what people really want now.

Something is happening, there is a huge, massive enormous Leave demonstration to rival the Remain one just like they promised: twitter.com/i/status/1189940189071847424

The point of a general election is to enable the PM to return with a decent majority which given the opposition is very likely to happen.

Brexit then being delivered will be a happy addition.

If dithering Corbyn had made his mind up earlier this election could have been over and done with.

Ginny42 Thu 31-Oct-19 17:26:06

'Dithering' Corbyn was waiting for the Tories to own their folly in setting us up with the Referendum and having no idea how to proceed once the result was known. The same party then gave characters like Davis and Fox key roles in a negotiation for which they were woefully ill-prepared or qualified, to bring about a satisfactory resolution.

It was clear that the country was totally divided on the issue,
so TM tried to placate both sides of a very close run Referendum result. The ERG didn't like it, so she had to go. There followed the spectacle of the Tories sparring against one another to lead the party and we ended up with Boris Johnson - a known liar.

Johnson made it plain that he was prepared to leave without a deal and the responsible MPs made a stand. They rightfully wanted no deal taken off the table. As soon as the other countries made the statement that 'no deal' would not happen, the LP agreed to an election. Thank goodness Corbyn dithered.

Now we have a GE which will be about Brexit. We can argue till the middle of next week (probably will) that it's about the NHS/education/climate change etc, but this is essentially about the Tories winning the GE and then they have carte blanche to do what they like.

This GE is not going to solve anything which has a cat in hell's chance of uniting this broken country.

Has Mark François exploded yet?

Ginny42 Thu 31-Oct-19 17:40:51

If only! Was that before or after Boris nose-dived into a ditch and died somewhere? What pretentious rot they all speak.

I do not like thee Mr François
The reason why is plain to tell
You said that you'd explode today
It seems that you just lied as well.

Urmstongran Thu 31-Oct-19 18:15:05

Not me winterwhite

winterwhite Thu 31-Oct-19 18:27:49

Urmston, don't let's pursue this beyond a point (!) but I was looking at the 2nd para of yours of 14.12 on this thread, talking of Remainer MPs. Sorry if I misrepresented you.

lemongrove Thu 31-Oct-19 18:39:56

Great spoof rhyme (Dr Fell) Ginny42 award yourself a wine

Urmstongran Thu 31-Oct-19 18:51:57

I apologise winterwhite you were correct.

Grandad1943 Thu 31-Oct-19 18:55:56

Well, being it is the 31st of October and Britain is still a member of the European Union should we all not be out searching for a body in a ditch.

Was that not what Johnson stated he wished to happen. ?

Ginny42 Thu 31-Oct-19 20:18:22

Johnson said he'd rather die in a ditch than ask for an extension. Mark François said he would explode today if we didn't leave. All this hyperbole is just arrant nonsense. Don't set yourself with a challenge you don't intend to keep!

Re: the lines in the style of 'I do not like thee Dr. Fell' by Tom Brown c. 1650. Just in case you're in any doubt, I can't abide listening to François, I just don't like the man. grin

Nonnie Fri 01-Nov-19 10:11:12

I haven't exploded! I've looked online for pictures of the ditch and can't find it. If only I had believed enough...........................
