Diane Abbott would be in charge of home security and immigration.

It seems an irrational fear/ dislike/ hatred - look at some of the recent Tory Home Secs- Theresa May got rid of 20,000 police officers, cut the prison service and look at the results. She was a disaster. Prior Patel is a talentless bigot. I’m not a fan of DA and wouldn’t want her in that role either but the Tory HS of recent years haven’t been exactly stellar. Those who criticise her way of speaking can’t have listened to Boris Johnson’s staccato speeches.

Back to the OP.....does anybody know what DA's stand is on home security and immigration?

I will try to find out.

Beckett Wed 06-Nov-19 11:33:14

To be fair wasn't DA showing hidden prejudice when she said "West Indian mums go to the wall for their children". If a white politician had said something similar they would have been castigated.

ladymuck Wed 06-Nov-19 11:34:21

trisher....that was very nicely put. If only all posters were as calm and reasonable, I wouldn't be sitting here laughing at some of the responses.

ladymuck Wed 06-Nov-19 11:37:03

Beckett, racial prejudice only works one way, don't you know that.

grapefruitpip Wed 06-Nov-19 11:38:54

What do you mean ladymuck? Quite clearly that isn't true.

suziewoozie Wed 06-Nov-19 11:49:34

Oh come on Beckett are you comparing the individualised, targeted racist, sexist filth on here with that? Both can be wrong but qualitatively very different.

suziewoozie Wed 06-Nov-19 11:51:32

AndBeckett certain posters on here aren’t showing hidden prejudice but in your face racist hate.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 06-Nov-19 12:26:10

Suziewoozie "in your face racist hate", please could you point out where and who has posted anything like that on this thread?

Callistemon Wed 06-Nov-19 12:30:18

So a white upperclass man like JRM or Boris can get away with saying and doing things that a black working class woman would be castigated for.
But they don't get away with it, do they trisher!
They are roundly castigated for their utterances too.

Diane does seem to have a problem stringing her words together these days (she never used to, did she?) and her lack of coherent thought translating into speech is worrying imo, if she were to take on one of the top Offices of State.

grapefruitpip Wed 06-Nov-19 12:36:28

GG, the worst offender has been deleted. You must have missed that. The ones about her sex life remain though.

So we have her slow and halting speech, her race, her affairs, and not a word on policies.

Callistemon Wed 06-Nov-19 12:39:36

Do you actually remember Diane Abbott in 1987? She was very much a bright new MP and her career history shows what she's done.
Yes, I do, hence my posts.

Oopsminty Wed 06-Nov-19 12:41:43

Lots of people don't like Diane Abbot.

But there are many who don't like Boris, Jacob Rees Mogg, Jeremy Corbyn, Jo Swinson, John McDonnell etc etc

Is that because they're white?

We do have to be careful because any time anyone criticises a person of colour the word racist suddenly appears.

Bit like Meghan Merkle.

We need a level playing field and I don't think that people's opinion of DA has anything to do with the colour of her skin.

But that's just my opinion

suziewoozie Wed 06-Nov-19 12:55:11

So you didn’t read the deleted post GG or did you think it was acceptable?

suziewoozie Wed 06-Nov-19 12:57:48

Have you watched the video I posted Ooops ?Lots of people’s opinion of DA appears to be predicated on her colour, given how so much of the abuse hurled at her mentions it. And that’s not my opinion it’s a fact.

growstuff Wed 06-Nov-19 13:04:38

Callistemon I agree with you. My comment was directed at the poster who was questioning why Abbott ever became an MP and made a revolting comment about anybody wanting to have an affair with her.

When I look at old videos of Abbott when she was first elected, I also wonder what's happened to her over the years because she doesn't seem well.

I don't think she'd be a good person to have as Home Secretary, but I don't think she deserves many of the comments on this thread.

Having said that, the bar for Home Secretaries does appear to be spectacularly low.

Gonegirl Wed 06-Nov-19 13:05:56

I can't stand the woman. She is one of the reasons I might not vote at all. (Who is there to vote for?)

Gonegirl Wed 06-Nov-19 13:06:51

The thought of her and Corbyn having an affair is cringe-making.

growstuff Wed 06-Nov-19 13:10:20

Why? Would they have made you watch whatever they got up to?

If people are in a relationship, I leave them to it. It's nothing to do with me.

suziewoozie Wed 06-Nov-19 13:10:59

Why Gonegirl ? It was 40 years ago and was a brief relationship. What is making you cringe? The thought of two young attractive people having sex?

trisher Wed 06-Nov-19 13:11:53

Callistemon if you read various posts on GN you will find people excusing both Boris and JRM with spurious reasons for what was said or what was meant. Search in vain for the equivalent for DA.

suziewoozie Wed 06-Nov-19 13:13:15

Well said grow. That’s exactly the point.

suziewoozie Wed 06-Nov-19 13:14:45

Your post to Call I meant but your post to GG is on the money as well.

Nandalot Wed 06-Nov-19 13:15:50

Well, Boris Johnson’s speech is not exactly fluent with his ‘ers’ every four words or so.

Gonegirl Wed 06-Nov-19 13:15:53

Some people you just can't imagine being "young and attractive". Even if you wanted to. The pair of them definitely come into that category.
