Tories shooting themselves in the foot.

suziewoozie Wed 06-Nov-19 20:05:31

But the last 36 hours has been mostly Tory shooting has it not?

Britain deserves better - is their slogan. Yes we bloody well do! Laughable isn’t it, have they forgotten who is and has been in govt all these years?!

Alun Cairns resigns in Ross England rape trial 'sabotage' row

A UK cabinet minister has resigned over claims he knew about a former aide's role in the "sabotage" of a rape trial.

Welsh Secretary Alun Cairns denied knowing a Tory Welsh assembly candidate had made claims about a woman's sexual history in a rape trial in April 2018, causing the case to collapse.

BBC Wales found he was sent an email about the case over a year ago - he said he only heard about it last week.

Mr Cairns, who intends to stand again for Parliament, denies any wrongdoing.

His former aide, Ross England, was chosen as the Vale of Glamorgan candidate for the 2021 Welsh assembly election in December 2018 - four months after the email about him was sent to Mr Cairns.

At the time of his selection to stand as an AM, Mr Cairns endorsed Mr England as a "friend and colleague" with whom "it will be a pleasure to campaign".

What this amounts to is a Tory Cabinet Minister having to admit that he lied. When are Boris Johnson's lies going to be a reason for him to resign?

Both parties seem to be equally adept at shooting themselves in the foot - and I am sure that they will continue to do so at regular intervals for the rest of the campaign until election day.

That’s a good point WW. The best video I saw on the doctored intervuew made by a BBC journalist - doubt it would have been made if we hadn’t been in the election period

What we know to be true.
Evolve Politics

Isn't it funny that when the media are actually forced by law to hold the Tories to account - rather than pandering like simpering lackeys during the rest of the non-General Election period - they start imploding en-masse.

suziewoozie Wed 06-Nov-19 17:57:04

And don’t worry Urm your side’s turn will come. Both Lab and Lib Dems will have their moments

suziewoozie Wed 06-Nov-19 17:54:31

Nope - some of us are discussing the bad start the Tories have had. You are perfectly free to put in the Labour issues but they don’t make the Tory ones disappear do they?

Urmstongran Wed 06-Nov-19 17:18:27

*Cairns, not Davis.

Urmstongran Wed 06-Nov-19 17:17:29

Oh my goodness what a feeding frenzy on here of anti Tory piranhas! Makes one nervous to dip a toe in the waters! ATTACK, ATTACK!

Just for a bit of balance, in the light that Alun Davis has been mentioned on this thread, what about the breaking news about theclose ally of Jeremy Corbyn who has been kicked out as a Labour MP today after being accused of being an apologist for anti-Semitism?

Chris Williamson has been blocked from standing in his Derby North seat by party bigwigs after an investigation into his behaviour.

The MP was suspended in February after he claimed that Labour had been 'too apologetic' in response to criticism of its handling of anti-Semitism allegations.

And the party's National Executive Committee today blocked his return, meaning his parliamentary career appears to be over.

Can we all maybe step back and be less partisan?

All sides in this election bun feast have awful characters!

More lies from Johnson on day one of his bid to win the election.

The BBC has outlined the lie

It is interesting to note the apologies for anti Semitic tweets from some Labour candidates

suziewoozie Wed 06-Nov-19 13:45:17

Not so much gloating as telling it how it is

suziewoozie Wed 06-Nov-19 13:44:30

Mention KV as you wish, doesn’t invalidate anything posted on this thread, or don’t you realise that?

Tooting29 Wed 06-Nov-19 13:42:47

Better not mention Vaz then.

Tooting29 Wed 06-Nov-19 13:40:29

I sense a certain gloating from the OP

Whitewavemark2 Wed 06-Nov-19 13:27:26

Ed Vaizey stands down.

Anyone left?

suziewoozie Wed 06-Nov-19 13:19:54

And as the trial collapsed, the victim had to then wait for the retrial and go through it all again. The judge in the first trial was scathing about Russ England - told him he had deliberately sabotaged the trial single handedly and told him to ‘get out of my court’. It’s a pity he wasn’t jailed for contempt. Nice barnacle

Whitewavemark2 Wed 06-Nov-19 13:18:49

Johnson repeated the lie

“40 more hospitals”

?

Whitewavemark2 Wed 06-Nov-19 13:14:56

No 10 source tells
@JasonGroves1
: "It hasn't been an ideal 24 hours, but we're getting the barnacles off the boat now. The campaign launches with the PM shortly and from then on it's no distractions."

Barnacles off the boat.

It's a RAPE CASE... ?

Whitewavemark2 Wed 06-Nov-19 13:12:35

Johnson on his podium started with a lie.

“I never wanted an early election”

Remind me.

Who has been desperately calling for an election since he became Tory leader?

SirChenjin Wed 06-Nov-19 13:06:48

For anyone in doubt about the veracity of the claims made by Alun Cairns in a rape trial (which could have been you, your daugher, your granddaughter)

"Ross England made claims about the victim's sexual history in an April 2018 trial which led to its collapse.
Welsh Secretary Alun Cairns denied knowing about this, but BBC Wales has seen an email sent to him in August 2018 mentioning the matter. It said: "I have spoken to Ross and he is confident no action will be taken by the court."."

mcem Wed 06-Nov-19 12:46:09

Tory HQ telling candidates not to sign any pledges to save NHS or pledges on climate change.
However it's fine to sign up to support shooting and country sports.
