Disgraceful non-attendance by Corbyn. No excuses - there are none.

lemongrove Sun 10-Nov-19 10:57:15

He has been anti-establishment all his life.....ironic or what?

jura2 Sun 10-Nov-19 10:56:19

WOW lemon, you've got it bad- very bad.

Please, could you tell me how you feel about Mandela?

rafichagran Sun 10-Nov-19 10:55:36

Since when is it your right to tell people they should not support the British legion Trisher
On another thread you stated you were wearing a white Poppy, you do that, I would not, but respect your right to wear your minority Poppy. I will wear my Red one with pride and carry on supporting the British legion, like alot of people will, far more than people who will be wearing a white Poppy. I am honouring mydeceased Royal Marine Commando Father, My step Grandson who was in the forces, and all war dead.
I think it is a disgrace Corbyn did not attend.

lemongrove Sun 10-Nov-19 10:53:57

Until Corbyn became LOTO I doubt he had ever been anywhere near the cenotaph or mingled with people who wore a red poppy. He has to now of course.
He has attended memorial services for IRA members though, and Palestinian terrorists.
He would wear a white poppy only today if he could get away with it.
One more reason ( if more were needed ) why he isn’t fit to be
PM.

Quite trisher. Perhaps those people could walk the streets talking to and looking after the current homeless ex-soldiers and putting the same sort of money into their care.

trisher Sun 10-Nov-19 10:42:02

Riverwalk those people have my sympathy and concern. The huge over produced publicity event that happened last night doesn't do anything for them or any of the others still suffering and dying in wars most of whom are civilians.

GracesGranMK3 Sun 10-Nov-19 10:39:25

Here we go again. He was in Sheffield yesterday meeting with Firefighters dealing with the floods, apparently.

Did I want to know that -no. But I do want a bit of truth. It appears he was not at a memorial ceremony for a member of the IRA.

What next! Talk about the party you expect/want to win and let us know what they are doing.

trisher Sun 10-Nov-19 10:39:06

Perhaps in order that their might be peace in N.Ireland Annie. If all had taken your attitude there would still be people dying there.

Riverwalk Sun 10-Nov-19 10:38:34

Maybe Corbyn prefers to give all the hypocrisy and hobnobbing with the royals a miss.

Many service men and women are living in sub-standard accommodation; have to fight for compensation for war injuries; and buy their own high-spec prostheses.

Anniebach Sun 10-Nov-19 10:30:55

Why on Earth was he at a memorial ceremony for a member of the IRA?

GracesGranMK3 Sun 10-Nov-19 10:30:14

I thought this thread was about the Festival and JC

And there was me thinking this was just another attack on the leader of the opposition. But it is, isn't it?

trisher Sun 10-Nov-19 10:26:59

It is, as so much is nowadays, an event which promotes and displays militarism. They true spirit of remembrance which involved the belief that it should never happen again has been totally lost. With a lifetime's committment to peace and opposing war why on earth would he be there?

Calendargirl Sun 10-Nov-19 10:24:57

GGMK3

I thought this thread was about the Festival and JC. Your comments belong on one of the other political threads I think.

GracesGranMK3 Sun 10-Nov-19 10:22:13

I see the Tory lies are splashed all over the Tory supporting front pages. Rather like GN, nothing good to say about the Conservatives and their own leader - let's attack Labour the switch lies and fake news.

It sounds like they are running scared to me which has to be good for ALL the opposition parties.

Anniebach Sun 10-Nov-19 10:19:20

He isn’t against remembering the dead, he attended a memorial service for a member of the IRA

merlotgran Sun 10-Nov-19 10:14:41

The Festival of Remembrance is not meant to be as sombre as the wreath laying at the Cenotaph. It's an uplifting show of gratitude, support and hope for a peaceful future.

I doubt the Northern Ireland veterans would want to see him there.

onlyruth Sun 10-Nov-19 10:11:51

Was he invited?

Anniebach Sun 10-Nov-19 10:10:22

I didn’t see or hear any glorifying of war , I with those attending and those watching ,was remembering those who died .

Pantglas2 Sun 10-Nov-19 10:07:01

This will not play well with so many older Labour supporters who are ex services.

GracesGranMK3 Sun 10-Nov-19 10:06:51

He is there this morning to lay a wreath. When did this "festival" become compulsory?

trisher Sun 10-Nov-19 10:05:11

Good! The Royal British Legion is not something anyone should support. It accepted money from BAE systems who helped the Saudis bomb Yemen. It's time remembrance stopped being a showcase for the armed services and became more about the people who are dying in wars, who are now mostly civilians. The red poppy was meant to commemorate the needless slaughter of men in WW1. not to glorify war.

Oopsminty Sun 10-Nov-19 10:04:46

Maybe he wasn't invited

growstuff Sun 10-Nov-19 10:03:12

It's their raison d'être Maizie.

merlotgran Sun 10-Nov-19 10:01:30

Camilla, who is also over seventy, has been struggling with a chest infection and had to pull out of a couple of engagements earlier in the week but she managed to attend.

janipat Sun 10-Nov-19 10:01:30

I don't think there should be any obligation to attend unless we are saying it is an "official" occasion.
