Disgraceful non-attendance by Corbyn. No excuses - there are none.

lemongrove Sun 10-Nov-19 08:39:32

Where is he then?Down the allotment??

lemongrove Sun 10-Nov-19 08:40:39

He may be mopping up in Worksop.?
Or just sleeping in?

Nico97 Sun 10-Nov-19 08:45:15

He probably won't remember where he was but one thing's for sure, he certainly wasn't where he should have been.

lemongrove Sun 10-Nov-19 08:46:48

Perhaps he was laying a wreath somewhere else entirely??

merlotgran Sun 10-Nov-19 08:49:12

We thought he might have been in a 'blink and you'll miss him' seat but he obviously he wasn't there. hmm

Pittcity Sun 10-Nov-19 08:49:45

He sent Emily Thornberry and the cameras did keep showing her crying.
Will he be at the Cenotaph in his anorak?

kittylester Sun 10-Nov-19 08:50:35

I spotted the patronising Emily Thornberry.

Wonder if he will be at the Cenotaph?

Corbyn's non-attendance at the Festival of Remembrance (which all other opposition party leader also seemed not to attend) may well have been down to the fact that he is seventy years old I believe and is also leading a large political party in the middle of a General Election campaign. Therefore, energy, stamina and a pact diary may well have played a large consideration in the decision not to attend.

Johnson was there in his role as Prime Minister but he has the organisational support of Downing Street for his diary and is half Corbyn's age.

So, we now have another "let's slag off Corbyn thread" with the usual extream right-wing zealots populating it.

Grannybags Sun 10-Nov-19 09:40:03

If he can't manage to attend the Festival of Remembrance because he is too feeble how would he manage with the stresses of being PM?

kittylester Sun 10-Nov-19 09:46:02

Quite, grannybags and I think Boris Johnson is rather older than 35!

Charleygirl5 Sun 10-Nov-19 09:51:02

So true Grannybags- I think it is unforgiveable.

Anniebach Sun 10-Nov-19 09:53:25

The Queen is 93 and she was there .

Momentum arranges Corbyn’s diary .

Unless he is ill there is no reason for him not attending .

And I am not ‘ an extreme right wing zealot

MissAdventure Sun 10-Nov-19 09:53:36

70 is young these days.
After all, we'll be working until we're almost that age.

The queen is old enough to be Corbyn's mum, and she manages.

MaizieD Sun 10-Nov-19 09:57:05

What is the 'Festival of Remembrance'? 'Festival' sounds a bit frivolous to me when applied to such a sombre subject.

Since when were party leaders excoriated for not aattending whatever it is?

Please stop your bloody pearl clutching and bitchy comments.

Calendargirl Sun 10-Nov-19 09:57:52

Must admit I hadn’t noticed JC wasn’t there, but did keep seeing Emily T. who irritates me greatly.
Pleased to see Boris singing lustily.
Also noticed Cressida Dick.

janipat Sun 10-Nov-19 09:59:50

Boris Johnson is 55, a mere 15 years younger than Jeremy Corbyn. Perhaps Grandad shares the same fluency with numbers as a prominent Labour MP? Don't personally hold either in any esteem.

Calendargirl Sun 10-Nov-19 10:01:17

MaizieD

Do you really not know what the Festival of Remembrance is?
It has been broadcast for decades, an important watch for many people.

growstuff Sun 10-Nov-19 10:01:23

Corbyn was in South Yorkshire, visiting people affected by the severe flooding.

janipat Sun 10-Nov-19 10:01:30

I don't think there should be any obligation to attend unless we are saying it is an "official" occasion.

merlotgran Sun 10-Nov-19 10:01:30

Camilla, who is also over seventy, has been struggling with a chest infection and had to pull out of a couple of engagements earlier in the week but she managed to attend.

growstuff Sun 10-Nov-19 10:03:12

It's their raison d'être Maizie.

Oopsminty Sun 10-Nov-19 10:04:46

Maybe he wasn't invited

trisher Sun 10-Nov-19 10:05:11

Good! The Royal British Legion is not something anyone should support. It accepted money from BAE systems who helped the Saudis bomb Yemen. It's time remembrance stopped being a showcase for the armed services and became more about the people who are dying in wars, who are now mostly civilians. The red poppy was meant to commemorate the needless slaughter of men in WW1. not to glorify war.

GracesGranMK3 Sun 10-Nov-19 10:06:51

He is there this morning to lay a wreath. When did this "festival" become compulsory?
