Well anyone who thinks it’s appropriate to use that phrase is a wanker

Gonegirl Sat 16-Nov-19 18:21:53

annsixty I did wonder. grin

To some people "nastiness" is other folk posting something they disagree with.

We certainly had a lot of that type of nastiness from leavers on the run up to the fraudulent referendum on 2016.

Greeneyedgirl Sat 16-Nov-19 14:33:22

I haven't seen nastiness on this thread, but posts from those passionate about the subject, and I like a bit of passion, and humour too. Where politics is concerned people are bound to be partisan but I learn a lot from those more erudite than myself. Nastiness abounds on social media because it is anonymous, but I like GN because there's not much of it as a rule.

Iam64 Sat 16-Nov-19 13:19:45

violettham. can you clarify your definition of nastiness.

Greenfinch Sat 16-Nov-19 13:07:53

Thanks Elegran . I began to think I was totally wrong in my understanding of Onan when everyone started talking about masturbation. He was indeed condemned for "spilling his seed " in a sexual relationship for his own specific reasons.

Violettham Sat 16-Nov-19 12:22:07

I am really fed up with all the nastiness creeping on to Gransnet for goodness sake be civilised everybody;

Elegran Sat 16-Nov-19 12:18:26

may? MY!

Elegran Sat 16-Nov-19 12:17:21

You are too kind to me, annsixty

I had to look back again to check what Eloethan had said. I totally agree that Bozo is completely unsuited to public life, and the great statesmen who have in the past emerged from Heton and Arrow (as they were referred to in may family when I was young) would be disgusted at his attitude to that public service - the lies, the foul mouth, the naked greed and the band-wagon-jumping.

annsixty Sat 16-Nov-19 11:37:47

I am now going to eat humble pie, I don’t enjoy it, and say as that as Elegran is always so spot on with her comments and deserves my compliment, in fact it was Eloethan’S post I was referring to.
I saw the E and made an assumption, I apologise to both of you.
I am covered with embarrassment but just had to come clean. You are both very bright and get to the point in a way I can’t.
We did learn something from the bible though from Elegran
I shall stop digging the hole now?

Gonegirl Sat 16-Nov-19 11:18:03

grin

Elegran Sat 16-Nov-19 11:17:20

Because it was way back at Wed 13-Nov-19 13:55:16, gonegirl. I had forgotten what I wrote and had to find it again to find out. I suspect I was showing off a bit.

Gonegirl Sat 16-Nov-19 11:11:44

Why can't I find Elegran's extraordinary epistle? confused

annsixty Sat 16-Nov-19 10:47:37

Elegran in her usual manner has said it all so well.
Thank you for saying what many of us think and want to say, but I for one am not clever enough.

Greeneyedgirl Sat 16-Nov-19 10:29:23

Well I'm late to the party, as usual, but am thrilled sic, to have discovered a new word today. Had to look it up, but am not surprised that such a word would pop out of BJs mouth. He exudes an aura of "machismo" which seems completely out of place outside boys public schools and in modern day society. BTW you can always depend on a lot of activity on GN on any threads to do with a) Politics or b) Sex, and brilliant if they're combined grin

Gonegirl Sat 16-Nov-19 10:14:04

Of course, thinking about it, I am an authority on just about anything.

What d'ya wanna know? (I'll google it)

Gonegirl Sat 16-Nov-19 10:12:31

I thought anya left and came back as anja. Dunno though. Could be wrong. Probably am.

Callistemon Sat 16-Nov-19 09:57:51

Oh, my typo perhaps
Sorry!

MaizieD Sat 16-Nov-19 09:54:48

Aren't anya and anja different people?

Amagran Sat 16-Nov-19 08:40:15

Thank you Eloethan for your timely reminder of just how unsuited BJ is to public office.

If he used this sort of demeaning language so consistently and unapologetically in any other public institution e.g. a university or the NHS, he would rightly be sacked. They have zero tolerance of such language.

But here we are, on the brink of electing him to run the country and international relations for the next 4/5 years.
Every person who votes Tory, is endorsing the use of demeaning and insulting language in the workplace. They must not be surprised if it comes back to bite them as the culture in public and private institutions descends to his BJ's level.

Gonegirl Fri 15-Nov-19 19:57:02

Eh? What does that mean.

No good me being an authority on anything. Everything I say gets deleted by the buggers GNHQ.

aquagran Fri 15-Nov-19 19:41:29

Two internationally renowned experts in absolutely everything on one forum... wow!

Callistemon Fri 15-Nov-19 19:03:49

anja is still here occasionally, aquagran
Don't write her off yet

aquagran Fri 15-Nov-19 19:01:46

Has gonegirl replaced anya as our resident authority and expert on absolutely everything. I do hope so,

Eloethan Fri 15-Nov-19 18:28:27

Johnson's poem about Erdogan:

“There was a young fellow from Ankara,
Who was a terrific wankerer.
Till he sowed his wild oats
With the help of a goat,
But he didn’t even stop to thankera.”

There are several leaders and politicians who I am not at all keen on, Erdogan being one of them, but I think alleged "jokes" of this nature are indicative of the thought processes and character of the person making them - and could have serious national and international consequences.

Johnson has a history of making ignorant and insulting remarks, especially with regard to sex. This, apparently, counts as "entertainment" to some people.

Of course, mostly everybody has heard of his references to black children as "piccaninies" and Muslim women in burkhas as "letterboxes" but he has made many insulting comments about a variety of people.

Some time ago he expressed the opinion that a gay marriage in effect sets a precedent for any sort of random union, eg between "three men and a dog". He also referred in another article about Peter Mandelson to "tank-topped bum-boys".

His stock of demeaning language and behaviour extends, unsurprisingly, to women. When working at the Telegraph he acknowledged that the Pirelli calendar of nude women prominently displayed at his work desk had "caused something of a stir" - apparently several women had complained - but he appeared to find it rather amusing.

When referring to his reporting on a Party Conference he spoke of the quality of the "hot totty" present, describing women in general as "fickle", and saying "Hot totty is on the agenda" , as the women had smelt the "whiff of power" - and women are "attracted to power".

There are just so many examples of this man's disrespectful remarks, that I was not at all surprised to hear he had again caused "something of a stir". I didn't know what onanism meant until I looked it up. What I read was that it means "coitus interruptus" or "masturbation". Couching a comment in terms that a lot of people will not understand does not cancel out the fact that the making lazy and stupid comments about a political rival is, in my view anyway, pretty adolescent behaviour.

It seems that Johnson finds any number of matters suitable material for clowning around and making jokes. However, his brand of leadership does not seem to lend itself to responding, either verbally or practically, in a timely, effective and sensitive manner to large numbers of people flooded out of their homes and businesses.

That's great jura2 er um!
