People work hard for most of their lives and deserve a decent retirement free of financial stress and insecurity.
Under the Tories, 400,000 pensioners have been pushed into poverty and
a generation of women born in the 1950s have had their pension age changed without fair notification.
This betrayal left millions of women with no time to make alternative plans – with sometimes devastating personal consequences.
Labour recognises this injustice, and will work with these women to design a system of recompense for the losses and insecurity they have suffered.
We will ensure that such an injustice can never happen again by legislating to prevent accrued rights to the state pension from being changed.

I am 61, won't get my pension until I'm 66.

yggdrasil you cannot fully cost promises such as these as you cannot predict future income or what will happen with the economy.

The rich may move overseas, take their wealth and any taxable income with them, together with any revenue from spending this wealth and leaving unemployment in their wake.

This promise is not in the manifesto, it is an afterthought and no thought has been given as to how it will be funded.

So, although I do feel desperately sorry for WASPI women and hope you will get some recompense, I do not believe this promise. At least Boris was more honest about it.

Didn't they promise to write off student debt a while ago as well?

There is no obligation on a Returning Officer to read out the number of spoiled ballots and no one knows how many are deliberately spoilt or just wrongly completed.
Given the state the country is in, there is really nothing clever about not trying to improve things for those most affected. I don't understand why people can't at least look closely at their local candidates and judge them on their records and their policies.
At least the manifestos show what their beliefs are and what they will try to do.

I agree with you Phoenix, it is a vote seeking promise. I doubt it will happen though.

My pension was set back twice, like many others. I was widowed at 55 and disabled but had to work until 64 and a half before getting my pension. We were all robbed of our money and should be compensated.

I feel very bitter about it but I still wouldn't believe Corbyn or vote for his Party.

Not everyone is fit enough beyond 60 and Lord knows, the pension is little enough to manage on but at least it's a gateway to other benefits and better than the worry of further years struggling on. It's criminal I think
As women expecting to be able to access all employment and rights equally with men, it is only fair that we work as long too, in fact perhaps women should work longer as we have greater life expectancy!
As for this generation - the changes of 60 to 65 were made in the 90’s!
Surely a 30 year warning is enough to prepare?

I am a 1950s women in the process of selling my guest house (at a massive loss) so I can retire, as I am physically and mentally exhausted and I have 3 more years until I get any pension.
I have already voted Labour (postal) before the details of the compensation for 1950s women came out, as I want a socialist government (fed up of seeing the suffering caused by this current party).
The offer is not great but nobody else is offering anything. I have been demonstrating and fighting for over 3 years for our cause.

I think they are all desperate for our votes and just saying anything - very little of it will get done whoever we get. What a mess.

If men had been shafted like the WASPI Women then the senior politicians responsible (Osborne, Cameron, Duncan-Smith and the like) would have been lynched from lamp posts just like Mussolini.

Life is strange. I have just been listening to the wonderful Grace Dent programme about a woman of 70 who is desperate to carry on working in a challenging job. Family commitments are making this difficult. I loved my (teaching) job and was made redundant at 72 (not an age related decision) and really did not want to go.

I have checked and would receive a total of just over 9k....

There's little choice in rotten apples!

But please, do vote for someone, otherwise whoever wins the election can feel chuffed. If you vote for some other candidate it is one vote less for the others.

I think personallyu that most people are not expecting any of the parties to deliver on all their manifesto promises, so for me, it's the intent behind them that matters, and I believe Labout aspires to make society more of a level playing field, and I applaud that.

It’s all so depressing. I haven’t a clue about what can be done to sort Brexit (and no it won’t be directed anytime soon). I think all the party leaders are simply beyond the pale too. Truth apparently is so 20th century.

Don’t waste a vote that women fought hard for. If you don’t vote, you cannot moan about what happens in the future. I really don’t want my country in the state it was in in the seventies, so will not be voting for Corbyn but you should use your vote for who you think will do least damage if nothing else!

Johnson renages on his word to support 50s women and offers nothing. Corbyn puts aside £58bn over 5 years to help 50s women. And they are perceived as being as bad as each other!

We’ve had utter chaos for the last 4 years so all those predicting utter chaos under Corbyn maybe take a reality check.

Get Brexit Done isn’t stupid. It means we will uncouple from the EU. It sends a strong message once the WA is passed.

Yes, of course we realise there will be years of trade talks and everything will be up for negotiation.

But I can relax about it all at that stage as those in power will be getting well paid to sort it all out. Be nice to hardly talk about it by then!

Well I am very concerned about the lives and pensions of the tens of thousands of utility staff.

These are hard working people, not earning a fortune.

People are brushing over the re-nationalisation as if it's a simple procedure.

Is Corbyn going to pay the going rate? I doubt it.

I don't know enough about it but if, god forbid, Corbyn gets in there will be utter chaos.

Untold billions? Can’t be done......and hopefully won’t be done.Far from improving lives for ordinary people it would ruin the lives of ordinary people in the end.
If they had come up with a realistic manifesto with a few good and doable things they had a chance of being taken seriously, but as it is.....
