Andrew Neil’s interview with Johnson

The destruction of the NHS is perfectly easy and it has already begun. You effectively reduce funding and run down the service until it is regarded as unfit for use. You blame this on all sorts of other factors which are nothing to do with you, things like staff shortages. Then as waiting lists lengthen, hospitals fail to cope and GP lists are full you produce the solution- privatisation! And before you know it the NHS is an institution which provides the poorest with inadequate care and the rest pay. You don't become unelectable, the people who vote for your party aren't the poor.

Especially when the despicable Corbyn has been trying to scare the population with his message of having to pay for your own cancer treatment etc as if it was a done deal that the NHS would be entirely privatised under a Conservative government.

I can see no reason for calling Corbyn despicable.

If the NHS was entirely privatised you would have to pay for the services you receive. If you could afford it you could insure yourself. If you couldn't, like the USA, many private bankruptcies would start to happen in this country.

That would not make Corbyn despicable. It would make the person who brought in such a system, despicable. The only person discussing this with the USA is Mr Johnson.

Are you another who wants this and wants to destroy the NHS? I really find it hard to work out what you are objecting to otherwise. It appears to be your entrenched dislike of one man because ... well, it appears to be because he is NOT trying to privatise and destroy our NHS and he has revealed the talks under Johnson.

It's very difficult to find any sort of logic in your post I'm afraid.

Lemongrove, Robert Peston has a word for the knee-jerk response of criticising an opponent, rather than addressing the criticisms which have been levelled at the person under discussion. It is 'whataboutery' and is a feeble strategy for avoiding uncomfortable truths.

At this stage, nothing would surprise me anymore.

So, the BBC have banned Johnson from appearing on Andrew Marr, as long as he refuses to do Andrew Neil interview.

At first, I thought 'good, and fair'... but now, cynical, me...

could it be all a ploy in cahoots as he does not want to do either - frit and in full knowledge that he does not understand the issues at stake and has no answers, and that so many of his promises are just lies and nonsense. Or is it just me ?

Let's imagine that the Tories win this election, and as widely predicted by many experts, things go, as my OH would crudely put it, 'tits up' after the election and Brexit, I think it's fair to say that will be curtains for them getting back in power for a very long time, when the masses finally realise that they have been played for fools!

Unfortunately the damage will already have been done, and there will be no quick fix.

Oh but I am quite sure you know.

Maizie- thank you so much for that Murphy's article - I shall copy it and share it- but more importantly, this is exactly how I feel now. And I have to say, I am more gratefull than ever that we are a family of mongrels- as my loved ones will have the choice to leave. So so sad.

Is anyone else wondering if it is a deliberate ploy to put people off politics? I met someone yesterday who said he wouldn't vote because it makes no difference. All these shenanigans may well put a lot off voting.

Labaik - I have found myself thinking that too, and I hope you and your family are not too badly affected if Johnson gets in.

I also think MaizieD's post about Richard Murphy's comments are pretty much spot on too. So sad, but Johnson's behaviour is contemptible - but is this just the death throws of empire too I wonder.

I'm afraid that I very much agree with Richard Murphy's comment on his blog this morning:

Implicit in all this is one thing. It is Johnson’s ego. What this election is about is whether or not people are foolish enough to believe that a man who has already proved himself so untrustworthy should run the country.

railman; I've actually decided that, if this country gives Johnson an overwhelming majority then I'm just going to hunker [sp] down; read books, do my garden etc and let the country sort itself out. Because, imo, the very people I'm worrying about are the ones that actually want what's happening now. Hopefully my family won't be too affected by it.

The ERG are keeping quiet during election time. However, as leader of the house he should be seen and heard sometimes, shouldn't he. I think they're keeping Mark Francois under wraps, too.

I truly despair for this country.

Listening to a phone in on the Jeremy Vine show this morning, about the non-appearance of Johnson.

One caller from Newcastle didn't give a fig about how, or if Scotland would be worse off, and another from Oxfordshire displayed so much arrogance and contempt for working classes, and equally dismissed the people of Scotland.

I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that we deserve Johnson and the Tories as our "glorious leaders" - they clearly are much better, and more worthy than us.

With due deference, it will be marvellous if we all suffer so long as those 'johnny foreigners' can be looked down on, and avoided!! Bring back the empire, we'll show them a thing or two - and in Latin.

Most of the Conservative comments I've heard owe more to Monty Python and Dad's Army than any serious political discourse or debate.

This government have been out to get Ch 4 for a long time....[so Boris DID actually send his dad tonight; words fail me...has any other PM sent his dad on errands for him. And where exactly WAS Boris tonight; as his father said PM's have full diaries well, I think we should be told what was deemed to be more important than climate change and the environment...].
