So much evidence out there being ignored by the racist press

And yes, as a Jewish person I was also offended by the coded antisemitism the Tories and their media allies used to attack Ed Miliband. Not just the bacon sandwich, by the way. More the constant references to ‘north London’ and the fact he was going to ‘stab Britain in the back’.

The Conservatives have been accused of “dog-whistle anti-migrant” politics after claiming that continued free movement with EU countries would cost the taxpayer more than £4bn in extra benefit costs over the next 10 years.

And Liberal Democrats responded with their own calculations that Boris Johnson’s plan to end free movement will cost the Treasury £7bn over the same period in lost tax revenues.

The Lib Dems challenged Mr Johnson to explain how he would fill the gap in his coffers left by the loss of EU migrants, who studies by the government’s own migration advisers show pay more in tax than they receive in benefits.

Work and pensions secretary Therese Coffey claimed continued free movement would see a total of 837, 000 EU nationals come to the UK by 2029, with a likely cumulative cost of £4.1bn over that period in payments of benefits such as universal credit and disability support, but not including child benefit. She accused Jeremy Corbyn of failing to include this expense in his costing of Labour’s manifesto.

”This analysis highlights the cost of Corbyn’s immigration policy to our public services,” said Ms Coffey. “The shocking thing is that this is yet another line item in Labour’s long list of uncosted pledges that will mean higher taxes for all of us.”

But Lib Dem home affairs spokeswoman Christine Jardine said that the Conservatives had failed to cost in their manifesto the lost tax revenues from EU nationals under their plans, which she said would dramatically decrease the money available for public services.

“This is the nasty party at its nastiest, whipping up anti-immigrant sentiment in a desperate attempt to win votes,” said Ms Jardine. No wonder Donald Trump and Nigel Farage support Boris Johnson. The Conservative Party really is the Brexit Party now. The Tory claim that free movement costs the UK is completely and utterly wrong. The government’s own Migration Advisory Committee has stated categorically that EU citizens pay more in taxes than they get in benefits. And that’s before you consider the huge contributions of the 65,000 who work in our NHS, and the thousands more who work in other public services.”

She added: “Attacking Labour on this is also completely misplaced, given that Jeremy Corbyn refuses to stand up for free movement. His manifesto makes clear that it would be on the table when he negotiates his Labour Brexit deal.

Don't disappear Peonyrose we need your take on things!
Some people are just too 'woke' which needs challenging.

Peonyrose Thu 28-Nov-19 14:24:42

Unreserved apology that a post I made against racism has somehow caused offence to someone who thought I was attacking Muslims. I was not and I was posting against any form of it, the case I mentioned was the Jewish problem. This has caused me anguish as to be named as racist when I am not has made me realise how a post can be mis interpreted and get you a bad name. So this is the last time I will post.

Gonegirl Thu 28-Nov-19 13:25:04

See, I look clever don't I? (Thank you google)

Gonegirl Thu 28-Nov-19 13:24:21

That's a new one. "Message deleted as it quotes deleted post". Haven't seen that one before.

Callistemon Thu 28-Nov-19 12:55:35

I meant to put a wink

Callistemon Thu 28-Nov-19 12:54:56

A colleague of mine many years ago used to use that phrase every night when we used to say a cheery 'Good night, see you tomorrow' but he said it in English.

I see no need to start using Arabic on GN, there may be a few people who can read it, but most can't.

Prynhawn Da smile

Chestnut Thu 28-Nov-19 11:22:48

The Arabic phrase which grapefruitpip posted means 'God willing'.
Why she/he posted that in Arabic I don't know, or what God is willing I don't know. Just trying to look clever I suppose.

Callistemon Wed 27-Nov-19 22:18:22

I could do it myself but I haven't worked out how to copy and paste on this new device as I'm not that clever
grin

Callistemon Wed 27-Nov-19 22:16:55

Google translate, copy and paste!

Gonegirl Wed 27-Nov-19 22:05:56

I just wanna know how she got that foreign writing on here. It's quite clever and she never strikes me as being very clever confused

lemongrove Wed 27-Nov-19 21:11:32

Gaga you had the wine spilling episode all wrong but were still wading in there all guns blazing.
Too much aggression going on all round.hmm

CoolioC Wed 27-Nov-19 21:04:29

Now Gonegirl do we still have free speech? It appears the press or one person or another can’t go a day without being offended by someone else. With everyone asking one another to apologise. Smacks of playground stuff to me, causes me to laugh daily. Whatever happened to the British sense of humour when we were able to laugh at ourselves.

A burka can’t look like a letterbox, simply because they are red.

Callistemon Wed 27-Nov-19 20:47:46

oh, I don't know
You should have heard me when DH spilt red wine on our new sofa.

GagaJo Wed 27-Nov-19 20:42:19

Not so sure I believe the excuse given though, given his track record.

GagaJo Wed 27-Nov-19 20:40:13

Oh yes. Very poor expression there (mine)! Sorry.

Callistemon Wed 27-Nov-19 20:38:22

Oh! I thought she threw him out because he spilt red wine on a white sofa. It was her doing the screaming.
Quite right too, however, I would have had him scrubbing the sofa all night.

GagaJo Wed 27-Nov-19 20:37:09

Eh? Don't you remember the screaming, thumping and throwing out of his PARTNER (maybe not wife) recently in the media?

Callistemon Wed 27-Nov-19 20:24:13

wife beating man

I do not think there has ever been a hint of physical violence against his wife, although other accusations could be made against BJ.

Baggs Wed 27-Nov-19 20:20:22

Yes.

I wear head coverings, i.e. hats, all the time outside. As did almost everyone until very modern times. That's about warmth or keeping the sun off or just for looks.

No-one is complaining about those other things you mention, gagajo, because facial communication and recognition, vitally important to all primates, is still possible.
