Everywhere you look and everything you read.

Health service imploding
Poverty levels retreating to Dickensian levels
Mortality rates increasing
Life expectancy decreasing
Food banks
Social care crises
Public services like libraries, grass cutting, weeds on verges, potholes.
Housing crises
Cuts in education, schools struggling
Academies failing
Students with huge debt
Corruption in our political class
Public broadcaster under severe criticism for bias
Media concentration threatens the public interest and our democracy
Police struggling because of cuts. Leave cancelled and overtime compelled to fill gaps.
Military funding at an all time low.
Prison service under severe pressure because of cuts
Welfare cut to the bone squeezing the poor to 1930’s style welfare support.
Transport almost at developing country levels
Hate crimes at a record high
Racism increasing

We are one of the richest countries in the world.

I agree Maizie. Somebody's been doing a brisk trade in flogging ear plugs and blindfolds.

I'm glad I'm going out. I won't be tempted to write what I really think. angry

Jolbook I have thought the same thing!

Either that or she is a robot programmed to churn out all this nonsense.

Oh dear having just read the long list posted I’m beginning to wonder if I should still live here, and the answer is yes, I would still rather be here than any other country

John Pilger is currently on a People’s Assembly Facebook Live discussion, talking about his new film THE DIRTY WAR ON THE NHS with Mark Serwotka, General Secretary of the PCS, and Dr Mona Kamal.

Next week's election may well be our last chance to turn things round and save our country, but only if we can STOP BREXIT.

Nanniejc1 Tue 03-Dec-19 16:57:29

Our country is still one of the best countries to live in,why do you think we get so many illegal immigrants trying to get here?Half the problem is that our benefits system is too good ,people who know all the loop holes seem to get everything free while the rest of us who have worked hard all of our lives don’t get anything. Its not just the Conservatives either, started when Tony Blair opened up our borders & let everyone in regardless whether they had a job to come to or any income to live on.Nobody should be allowed into our country unless they have a job opportunity ,an income to live on or if they are refugees........it’s not right that anyone can just come here ,get a house & benefits that we have all paid in for,it’s too easy.....:no wonder everything is in a mess!!!

JenniferEccles Tue 03-Dec-19 17:02:26

On the contrary we need to get Brexit done and out of the way to enable Boris to concentrate on other important issues.

He has a realistic budget unlike the ludicrous amounts of money Corbyn wants you to believe he has.

helenmabr Tue 03-Dec-19 17:16:49

Whitewater l am with you all the way!

Nanniejc1 Tue 03-Dec-19 17:18:13

I agree 100% OPAL,my husband & I have both worked hard all of our lives & our children have been brought up to realise that you don’t get anything unless you work for it.We have both worked hard & paid off our mortgage ,now retired & help our children with childcare so that their partners can work too.We certainly haven’t had any money given to us or any benefits of any kind.Sick of people who moan constantly & expect handouts........half the problem these days is that some people expect everything without working for it,lots of kids haven’t got a work ethic unfortunately.

Local authorities have had their precept cut from the government by 38%. Since 2010.

Nothing the LAs do had remained untouched. The only area that has not been cut is children’s services.

Every other service provided by the LAs have felt the effects.
Particularly in social care.

Further cuts are in the pipe line

Whitewavemark2 Tue 03-Dec-19 17:29:07

Police budgets are set to lose £700 million by 2020.

Police numbers have been cut by 20000

Police chiefs say they need £400 million extra a year just to deal with rising demand.

varian Tue 03-Dec-19 17:35:25

One of the biggest Tory propaganda lies is "we need to get Brexit done and out of the way so we can concentrate on other things"

The truth is that if we don't stop brexit, it won't be 'out of the way' for at least ten years. (Jacob Rees Mogg said fifty!)

Chestnut Tue 03-Dec-19 17:45:21

varian - this is not a thread about Brexit. You have pushed the 'stop Brexit' mantra on every other thread, leave this one alone. It's just getting so tedious. There are numerous other threads where you can bang on about it.

jura2 Tue 03-Dec-19 17:48:06

how very rude. If it is relevant- she has every right to mention it.

Dinahmo Tue 03-Dec-19 17:56:02

Everything that WWM2 wrote in her original thread is correct. The country is in a far worse state than it has been for m any years. The Tory government are responsible for this and their attitude during the first 2 years after the referendum has made things worse.

David Davis turned up at the Brexit negotiations with just a piece of paper because everything was in his head. (Which of course it wasn't).

May drew her red lines which were set in stone.

Deadlines have been and gone.

Since the referendum very little legislation has been dealt with that's not Brexit related. IMO Varian is accurate in her statements.

Chestnut Tue 03-Dec-19 18:04:18

jura2 - varian has repeated the same 'stop Brexit' mantra about a thousand times on other threads. It doesn't add anything to the discussion on this thread which was getting along very nicely without it.

jura2 Tue 03-Dec-19 18:06:51

your opinion- and fair enough. But who are you to decide?

Dinahmo Tue 03-Dec-19 18:08:43

The illegal immigrants that come here come because English is the only other language that they speak, if they do know another language.

We Brits are a mongrel nation. Most of us have forebears from other countries somewhere in our ancestry so it is a little unwise for people to complain about immigrants.

Many of the people whom Tony Blair "let in" are working in the care system, such as it is now. My B in Law had a Polish care worker who came once a week to give some respite to my S in Law. He has lived in the UK for nearly 20 years and was horrified when my S in Law said she had voted to leave. "Oh" she said, "I didn't mean you". His care home was owned and staffed by foreigners - Spanish.

Dinahmo Tue 03-Dec-19 18:13:34

3Nanny6 You're a little late in complaining about foreigners driving 4 x4s. When I lived in London us residents were always complaining about the Chelsea Tractors (and I lived in Brixton) back in the 80s. Except they were called Range Rovers then.

Dinahmo Tue 03-Dec-19 18:19:41

JenniferEccles Before you comment further on the welfare state I suggest you watch watch Ken Loache's film "I am Daniel Blake" which is a dire indictment of today's benefits system.

Dinahmo Tue 03-Dec-19 18:28:55

Chestnut Around the time of the referendum i saw a programme about a town on the east coast - one that had several overseas workers in agriculture. The locals were complaining about access to the health system. A doctor from the local health centre responded that most of the immigrants were young and so had little need of healthcare. The problem, he said, was the aging population.

The fact is, we are an aging population and if we survive the 3 score years and 10 we are likely to need health care more frequently as our bodies start to deteriorate. One could of course blame the NHS for looking after us so well when we were young and for keeping us alive now.

Phoebes Tue 03-Dec-19 18:43:24

Yggdrasil-I would like to point out that the reason I voted to remain was nothing to do with the Tory government, but rather because I feel that we are stronger if we are together rather than being out on our own and isolated.
I am not just British (Welsh), I am European and I want to remain that way. I have family in Denmark, Greece and Germany and I want to be able to continue to travel freely without borders.

Opal Tue 03-Dec-19 19:15:58

You will still be able to travel freely Phoebes, but you may need to show your passport, and in some cases may need a visa - in exactly the same way as you do to visit any other part of the world. Why should travelling in the EU be any different? And if by introducing this measure we are better able to protect our borders and control immigration, then it's a small inconvenience and a price well worth paying.

Summerlove Tue 03-Dec-19 19:36:21

Opal, that is not traveling freely without borders. Which is what Pheobes said she wanted. Why change the parameters and then say it’s the same thing? ??‍♀️
