Everywhere you look and everything you read.

Health service imploding
Poverty levels retreating to Dickensian levels
Mortality rates increasing
Life expectancy decreasing
Food banks
Social care crises
Public services like libraries, grass cutting, weeds on verges, potholes.
Housing crises
Cuts in education, schools struggling
Academies failing
Students with huge debt
Corruption in our political class
Public broadcaster under severe criticism for bias
Media concentration threatens the public interest and our democracy
Police struggling because of cuts. Leave cancelled and overtime compelled to fill gaps.
Military funding at an all time low.
Prison service under severe pressure because of cuts
Welfare cut to the bone squeezing the poor to 1930’s style welfare support.
Transport almost at developing country levels
Hate crimes at a record high
Racism increasing

We are one of the richest countries in the world.

One of the biggest Tory propaganda lies is "we need to get Brexit done and out of the way so we can concentrate on other things"

The truth is that if we don't stop brexit, it won't be 'out of the way' for at least ten years. (Jacob Rees Mogg said fifty!)

Police budgets are set to lose £700 million by 2020.

Police numbers have been cut by 20000

Police chiefs say they need £400 million extra a year just to deal with rising demand.

Local authorities have had their precept cut from the government by 38%. Since 2010.

Nothing the LAs do had remained untouched. The only area that has not been cut is children’s services.

Every other service provided by the LAs have felt the effects.
Particularly in social care.

Further cuts are in the pipe line

I agree 100% OPAL,my husband & I have both worked hard all of our lives & our children have been brought up to realise that you don’t get anything unless you work for it.We have both worked hard & paid off our mortgage ,now retired & help our children with childcare so that their partners can work too.We certainly haven’t had any money given to us or any benefits of any kind.Sick of people who moan constantly & expect handouts........half the problem these days is that some people expect everything without working for it,lots of kids haven’t got a work ethic unfortunately.

Whitewater l am with you all the way!

JenniferEccles Tue 03-Dec-19 17:02:26

On the contrary we need to get Brexit done and out of the way to enable Boris to concentrate on other important issues.

He has a realistic budget unlike the ludicrous amounts of money Corbyn wants you to believe he has.

Our country is still one of the best countries to live in,why do you think we get so many illegal immigrants trying to get here?Half the problem is that our benefits system is too good ,people who know all the loop holes seem to get everything free while the rest of us who have worked hard all of our lives don’t get anything. Its not just the Conservatives either, started when Tony Blair opened up our borders & let everyone in regardless whether they had a job to come to or any income to live on.Nobody should be allowed into our country unless they have a job opportunity ,an income to live on or if they are refugees........it’s not right that anyone can just come here ,get a house & benefits that we have all paid in for,it’s too easy.....:no wonder everything is in a mess!!!

Next week's election may well be our last chance to turn things round and save our country, but only if we can STOP BREXIT.

Oh dear having just read the long list posted I’m beginning to wonder if I should still live here, and the answer is yes, I would still rather be here than any other country

JenniferEccles Tue 03-Dec-19 16:08:51

Jolbook I have thought the same thing!

Either that or she is a robot programmed to churn out all this nonsense.

I agree Maizie. Somebody's been doing a brisk trade in flogging ear plugs and blindfolds.

I'm glad I'm going out. I won't be tempted to write what I really think. angry

Curlywhirly Tue 03-Dec-19 16:05:33

Opal - I agree with some of your sentiments; no one wants to help support the people who are able to work, but choose not to; there will always be some that are cute and know how to work the system. But there are lots of unfortunate people who cannot work for very good reasons - ill-health, they are a primary carer etc. and they genuinely need to claim benefits; if some rogues slip through the system, then so be it, it doesn't stop me from agreeing to pay more tax. Also, the income from increased taxation of the more well-off wouldn't just be used for the welfare state; there's transport improvement, more funding for local government, police, fire, NHS etc. I would benefit myself from all those improvements that I have helped to fund!

MaizieD Tue 03-Dec-19 16:02:38

Goodness, what a deeply unpleasant thread this is.

Have I read your post correctly blondenana? Are you seriously suggesting that most immigrants don't work?

By the way, when was the last time you had to go to hospital or spend time in a care home or hospice? Did it occur to you how many of the nurses and doctors are pesky immigrants?

Grany Tue 03-Dec-19 15:59:18

#VoteLabour2019 I'ts the same with academy schools, they can choose unqualified teachers to keep costs down. It's a potential high cost for the children and patients.

Thank-you Chestnut the overcrowding is the biggest problem we have. Do not want to get on my high horse but the schools close to my house are a traffic hazard at morning and home time because of waiting parents in cars no matter how many notices go up about parking they still get ignored gone are the days of children walking to school.
Latest is our rapidly declining High Street will be gone in about two years that's for the next lot of houses to go up.
That's progress I suppose still as the years pass I suppose I think I will be off to meet my eternal maker (not to soon I hope)
Thought I would mention that as somewhere in the post on this subject I noticed a post where someone said that
O.A.Ps are the biggest drain on the benefit system and that us O.A.Ps are taking up hospital beds and social care etc; oh well pardon me for breathing whoever it was they will become an O.AP one day so best of luck when that time comes.
I still feel blessed and glad to be living.

Rosina Tue 03-Dec-19 15:55:06

And yet a huge proprotion of migrants want to live here, choosing Britain over all the countries they travel through. There will doubtlessly be many who will have examples of just how wrong I am, but for the most part we are a decent, kind hearted, incredibly tolerant, good humoured and very lucky nation with much to be grateful for.
Perhaps those who go on about how terrible it all is might like to find a country that is in a better shape? This is not a sarcastic challenge - I would like to hear who is doing it better than us right now. The world is having a bad time in many ways - but I would rather be here than anywhere else on the planet.

blondenana Tue 03-Dec-19 15:53:33

To a certain extent i agree with WW,not everything wrong with this country, but a lot that shouldn't be in this day and age
The tories only think about the wealthy, who can afford to pay for healthcare etc
Drs and nurses are leaving the country, there are shortages of skilled people, but we let in and keep in immigrants that do no good and are a drain on the health service ,
Most don't work, and are on benefits, yet our own people are penalised if they don't have a job, and before anyone calls me a racist,i am not, but i don't agree with open borders ,for all and sundry,
Australia has the right idea, only allowed in if you have a job to go to,it has always been like that and still is
Not enough Drs and nurses, too many people
Employment is only at an all time high because of zero hours working,or sometimes only allowed to work 12 hours a week, so then have to rely on top ups
I have never voted Tory and never will, but i am not too keen on Labour as it is now
I know most poor people are not as poor as they once were,i remember families who only ever had hand me downs from older brothers and sisters, but it is getting that way,
Some people don't live in the real world and don't see the poverty we have today, especially in families,
There should be no homeless living on the streets
There are over 2000 on our housing waiting list, but almost all empty ones have gone to immigrants because out council have to take in and house at least 36 families this year, and more next year,
Not a lot compared to some places but it is a small town

Grammaretto Tue 03-Dec-19 15:50:25

@oodles well said

tara Tue 03-Dec-19 15:49:37

Agree wholeheartedly.. Why should we expect everything to be handed to us on a plate? We also worked long and hard, restricted our family to one, though my husband wanted 6!
Never owed ,nor lent money, saved whilst working, for our retirement, whilst others spent their money on luxuries, holidays etc. And now living on benefits?
Work hard , and don’t expect handouts. Yes, voted Conservatives, mostly, but divert according when we think another party is better. At the moment I am still undecided, both leaders do not fill me with any sense of confidence!
Certainly improvements needed .

Well said 3nanny6. This overcrowding in such a small country is the cause of many of our problems. How can anyone not notice the growing difficulties with schools, healthcare, housing and transport. The answer is always 'build more houses, more roads, more hospitals, more schools' but where will it ever end?
