Anxiety

Well, I am feeling quite upbeat as I went to the office @7:00 am this morning and have just finished for what will be the rest of the week....Hopefully?

I voted on the way home for our Labour Candidate although he has no chance of winning here in North Somerset.

There is obviously some anxiety among the Staff at our Somerset and London offices in regard to the outcome of this election, as the business is based around workplace safety which is an area that the Tories may well deregulate should they win this election.

However, we now have a well-established office in Belgium which remaining as a European Union member state will continue to maintain industrial safety standards whatever happens here in the UK. With further expansion being planned within the EU that should protect the future trading security of the overall business.

Of course the above does not help the anxiety of our British staff, but we will have to wait for the outcome tonight, and then as a company with a great staff, work our way forward from there.

However, that is all for the future as we have told them, and as they are all to receive their Christmas bonuses tomorrow in the wake of a very busy trading quarter and year, I am sure that will brighten up all their Christmas festivities whatever the outcome of this election.

So, I will at least now be able to stay up and watch the results come in tonight with great interest.

To me the biggest problem is Brexit. If you are adamant about leaving or remaining then you will vote for those parties. However, there are so many other issues that are of importance and if you are just voting for or against Brexit then you are "lumbered" with the other policies that you may not agree with for the next 5 years. If only Brexit had been sorted one way or the other before. I feel anxious about the future of this country.

No need to queue at 7 am to vote when all you have had to do is applied for a 'general' posting vote .Prepaid envelopes come with your voting paper so no worries about not having a stamp.

I feel more anxious about the election than I ever have before. It's a weird one isn't it - traditional Labour voters who mostly voted for Brexit must feel very torn today as Labour don't want Brexit so it would be like voting Remain. And the more affluent SE on the UK who voted to remain aren't going to want to vote for the Conservatives as they're pushing Brexit through. All a bit upside down isn't it? I voted for my usual party as they're brilliant for our local area. I wish this election was about far more issues than the B word but Brexit has hi-jacked it somewhat, in spite of good efforts all round. We might as well have just had another referendum. And I wish we had.

And tomorrow Brexit will be back in the headlines. I have never felt anxious about an election result but today I do. It has never been so important to vote

What will be will be...we can only do our bit by looking out for others and treating people the way we want to be treated...voting for whatever party wont do that...only we can make a difference

I’m voting tonight and have no idea who to vote for. They are all liars cheats and in it for themselves. I despair

I've just been out to cast my vote, and the pollsters tell me that there was a queue at 7am in our tiny village - unheard of! I am hoping hard that whatever the result, the turn-out will be huge, so that we can at least feel that we have had a say.

Unprecedented long queues at polling stations being reported on social media.
I'm usually the only person at mine but there was a queue of people to get their names checked as I left the booth.
I hope it is a good sign.

It’s all seriously depressing to me. So much anger, so much division in the UK and in the world.

Perhaps Nostradamus was not far wrong!

It's certainly not a settled world in which to leave as a legacy to our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
It'll never be the world as we've known it in the past.

My D and family are on the outskirts of Sydney and after her phoning me this week I remain worried for them with that on my mind.
In the words of the Peter Garrett song :
" How can we dance when our earth is turning. How can we sleep when our beds are burning ", brings it back to what he was fighting for in the 80's living in temperatures of 45 degrees.

Peter went from songwriter to a politician but nobody listened to him. He was/is a human rights activist in Australia who supported the Aborigines because of the exploitation of the British for thousands of years, destroying their land.

Are our politicians bothered about our country ?? That will remain to be seen !

No matter who gets the countries vote today the situation is only going to get much worse. We are leaderless in all three major parties. Integrity, honesty , compassion, and the basic will to serve the people and do right by us is missing.

Greeneyedgirl please can I suggest you apply for a postal votte ? You get plenty of time to post your letter. I posted my neighbours for him and I can’t always walk far I am ok now but I never know. It is one less thing to bother about.

I never used to too bothered about who won elections as we always have another one in a few years.
I think Brexit has changed all that as, whether Brexit goes through or is revoked, it will make a huge difference to the country for the foreseeable future, long past my lifetime. Whatever happens, the country will remain divided with a lot of anger and bitterness.

I am with you GagaJo, and this is the worst I have felt of all the elections I have lived through.
I can only see the divisions in our society widening after the election, and these thoughts have caused me to feel seriously depressed over the last few weeks. Am ill today but will definitely vote whatever.

I think everyone is anxious over this election, and it seems whatever the outcome we will still have a difficult time ahead. Brexit was handled badly from the start but still should have been delivered on the due date 31st March. Instead, after three years of fighting tooth and nail we are still struggling over it.

Over the years it has become a tradition for friends and family both young and old, to meet up at the polling station early evening and then retire to the pub across the road.
It's not happening this evening, we are all feeling decidedly down no matter which party we support.
Says it all really.

GagaJo, your concerns, are valid, but we can all only do our best in this situation. Climate change, Brexit, the NHS, care of the elderly, and our schools, are all major issues (and there are more, I know) and every voter has the chance today to state their choice. It frustrates me beyond words, that some people simply can't be bothered to vote; we are so lucky in this country to have that freedom.

What will be, will be - but if you are sick of Brexit- you ain't seen nothing yet.
