I am delighted. I am 68 years old and have voted Conservative all my life. I am loving some of Urmston Gran's comments. As some one else her has said - Boris is the best the to happen since Margaret Thatcher. I am confident that we are in a safe and solid place for the next five years.

Labour was last in power 2010, we have had 9 years of the Tory government, the next election in 5 years = 14 years.

Back to what I came on here to post ....

Britain is suddenly the only big country in Western Europe with a fully functional government able to take radical measures and sweep aside resistance.

France, Germany, Italy and Spain are all in political turmoil or have a paralysed executive. The centre is crumbling everywhere but not in Britain.

A one-nation Tory party has pulled off the feat of uniting a blue collar North and an affluent South. The world press and Left-academia got that narrative badly wrong!

This political asymmetry between a unified, confident, well-armed British government and a demoralised, splintered Continent matters enormously.

Brussels can no longer play the divide and rule game in Westminster, or indeed with the Tory party itself. Everything has changed.

The Grieves, Gaukes, and Soubrys of the “Rump Parliament” have been liquidated.

They have heard the roar of Yorkshire, Wales, Lancashire and Northumberland!

I doubt very much whether Grieve, Gauke and Soubry have been "liquidated" or whether it's the last anybody will hear of them.

MadeInYorkshire, hang in there lovely. There are lots of good people out there wuth real genuine empathy and a dedication to change the world. Too many people thses days only want to hear their own voice and their own shitty opinions reflected back to them... The younger generation are more and more kind and decent in my experience. Please get support. I understand how crushing this feels. 5 years, the tories have in their opinion been given free rein with their awful behaviour. Things will change, I am sure of it x

MadeinYorkshire I don't know your circumstances, but please ask for help. Hang on to whatever you have, however grim things seem. There are still more people with kind hearts than those with ossified consciences and wilful blindness.

MadeinYorkshire, I echo what others have said. Please hang on, speak to The Samaritans tonight please. Have you family or friends who would accompany you to the doctor tomorrow? Doctors work all through the weekend now, you don’t have to wait till Monday. There will be an emergency surgery somewhere near you. Please ring The Samaritans, someone will come out to see you, completely confidentially, if you wish.

Despite months (or years in some cases) of some of us trying to counteract the lies and misinformation coming from the right, the same lies and misinformation is still being disseminated.

Stanley Johnson on tv Friday evening was at great pains to convince the viewers that BJ was European, having 4 different strands and why did we think he was called de Pfeffel, if he wasn't European? Funnily, his ancestor's name was von Pfeffel but I guess Stanley thought that de Pfeffel sounded better.

SJ also said that BJ was going to build a bridge with Europe (metaphoric I assume).

Some commentators even think he may tell us that leaving the EU isn't such a good idea after all.

So pleased that the Tories won - and by a good majority! I was dreading the possibility of Labour winning, and us having to put up with a Prime Minister who has so many shady things in his past (supporting terrorists for one!).

Time to put our differences behind us now. Get on with Brexit. And just wait and see if all the Tory promises are fulfilled. (I'm not a great supporter of Boris - but I think that perhaps I will be proved wrong. Let's hope so!
