Does anyone really believe that? That the majority of people hate the rest.

Why not believe that the swathes of people who voted Tory did so with the best of intentions and with hope in their hearts for the whole country.

In my view the hate was emanating from her.

lemongrove Fri 13-Dec-19 23:03:51

Nobody would be rubbishing our political system if Corbyn had got the keys to number ten. ?So predictable.

Yehbutnobut Fri 13-Dec-19 22:36:38

Yes.

GagaJo Fri 13-Dec-19 21:59:47

88% of Conservative election posters contained lies (independent review).

Lying PM.

Country run NOT by bumbling Boris but by unelected Dominic Cummings.

Multimillionaires in the media (Murdoch et al) running totally fake attacks and propaganda about the opposition.

We PRETEND we have an impartial system. Really, it is psuedo choice. The poor voting for a party who will DIRECTLY harm them. That isn't because they're stupid. It's because the facts are kept from them.

Tory totalitarianism.

Hetty58 Fri 13-Dec-19 21:49:58

Proportional representation would be democratic, Chucky!

Chucky Fri 13-Dec-19 21:44:59

@GagaJo “I doubt many Conservative voters thought about the poor, the disabled, the needy.”
I did think about the poor, the disabled, the needy........I’m poor, disabled and live on benefits and I voted Conservative, because they are the only party that offers a future for our country!

@GagaJo “No democracy in the UK anymore. I'm a lot happier now I've accepted that.”
What planet are you on Gaga???
Definition of democracy from Encyclopaedia Britannica...... “Democracy is a system of government in which power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or through freely elected representatives.”

In what way was this General Election not democratic Gaga?? Maybe you think that those who have different views to yours, shouldn’t get a vote? Perhaps you think that the way the Democratic People's Republic of North Korea is run is the way to go? Perhaps go over there and find out??

quizqueen Fri 13-Dec-19 21:43:36

I presume that everyone who didn't voted Conservative on this site has taken in a homeless person to live permanently and for free in their home. That would 'cure' that problem straight away. Also, if you think so strongly about fairness, when your next hospital appointment comes up, please give it away to someone who is at the bottom of the list. Words are pointless.

Hetty58 Fri 13-Dec-19 21:34:49

However disappointing we find the result, we can understand the reasons. It will be very different in five years anyway!

Callistemon Fri 13-Dec-19 21:29:21

The SNP got 3.9% of the total votes and 48 seats.

That is disproportionate representation and quite a landslide for them.

jura2 Fri 13-Dec-19 20:38:24

44% of the vote- 56% of the seats

hardly a 'landslide'

Missfoodlove Fri 13-Dec-19 20:36:31

Summerlove.

Virtue signalling is the popular modern habit of indicating that one has virtue merely by expressing disgust or favour for certain political ideas or cultural happenings.
Particularly on social media.

inkcog Fri 13-Dec-19 20:24:29

I'm afraid Lily and her prophesy about less brown people is way wide of the mark.

Summerlove Fri 13-Dec-19 20:17:15

It’s all virtue signalling.

Is this the new “snowflake” for anything people happen to disagree with?

varian Fri 13-Dec-19 20:12:37

We got a Xmas card today from a Chines friend in HK. It had been opened and re-sealed!

PamelaJ1 Fri 13-Dec-19 20:09:44

Gagajo, my father had his name on the wanted list when Mao’s army took over HK back in the day. Luckily they didn’t.
Almost daily the mutilated bodies of people who had upset the regime were found.
Not a lot has changed in China.
The Hongkongers are very concerned. Maybe you have read about the demonstrations?
Are you seriously comparing our democratic society with that and found it wanting?

Missfoodlove Fri 13-Dec-19 19:50:09

Lily Allen is a disgrace.
It’s all virtue signalling.
She has no idea how ordinary people get by.
If she stopped shoving party powder up her nose and donated the money to charity instead then she could probably fund a third world country.

varian Fri 13-Dec-19 18:59:53

The SNP have 48 MPs and so will be regarded as the third party in the HOC and given all sorts of privileges.

The LibDems have 11 MPs and so will sit on the back benches and hardly ever be called to speak.

If we had Proportional Representation, as we have in the Scottish Parliament, the SNP would have 25 MPs and the LibDems would have 75 MPs.

This is utter nonsense. The corrupt and absurd FPTP voting system has been allowed top continue only because it serves the vested interests of the Conservative and Labour parties.

Callistemon Fri 13-Dec-19 18:50:35

It isn't, is it varian.

Just compare the number of SNP votes per MP with the number of votes per Lib Dem MP.

It is outrageous.

varian Fri 13-Dec-19 18:46:58

The LibDems gained an extra 4.2% of the votes (more than 1.2 million extra votes ) and lost a seat.

The Conservatives gained an extra 1.2% of the votes (about 0.2 million extra votes) and got an extra 66 seats.

Each newly elected Conservative MP represents about 38 thousand votes.

Each newly elected Labour MP represents about 51 thousand votes.

Each newly elected SNP MP represents about 26 thousand votes.

Each newly elected Liberal Democrat MP represents about 336 thousand votes.

Caroline Lucas, the only Green Party MP represents about 866 thousand voters.

How can anyone call that democracy?

Callistemon Fri 13-Dec-19 18:33:59

freya well, not everyone on here voted Tory and I am annoyed that the Lib Dems increased their share of the vote but not the number of seats.

But I am still of the opinion that Lily Allen is a uninformed twit.

Blondiescot Fri 13-Dec-19 18:12:25

Many would disagree with you on that score, eazybee.

eazybee Fri 13-Dec-19 18:08:26

Our politics is rotten to the core

No Varian, they are not.

eazybee Fri 13-Dec-19 18:03:52

Saying that those on the losing side should accept it gracefully only applies to games. This was not a game, this was in deadly earnest.

So because something is in deadly earnest, the losing side are incapable of accepting defeat, graciously or otherwise? And that is acceptable? This is not an invasion, not war, although certain people would like to make it so.

We have had three and a half years of some people refusing to accept a democratic result, actively creating mayhem which has resulted in a massive swing to the party that aims to honour that result.

kittylester Fri 13-Dec-19 17:35:56

jura, have you moved you home in the uk?

varian Fri 13-Dec-19 17:27:15

"in 2005 Labour won a 66 seat majority with just 35% of the vote on a 61% turnout the support in other words of about 22% of the total electorate"

Urmstongran has posted this on another thread.

I assume that was ok because it wasn't the Conservatives?"

NO it is not OK that we have such an undemocratic voting system. Our politics is rotten to the core

POGS Fri 13-Dec-19 17:07:03

Jura

"Strangely enough, for the first time ever, my/our votes counted- and a young woman of afro-carribean origin was elected in our Constituency. Looking forward to go and congratulate her in person."
-

When you come over to England to congratulate her is your constituency in Leicester by any chance the one won by Momentum candidate Claudia Webb who took over from the disgraced Labour MP Keith Vaz?
