Does anyone really believe that? That the majority of people hate the rest.

Why not believe that the swathes of people who voted Tory did so with the best of intentions and with hope in their hearts for the whole country.

In my view the hate was emanating from her.

Jura

"Strangely enough, for the first time ever, my/our votes counted- and a young woman of afro-carribean origin was elected in our Constituency. Looking forward to go and congratulate her in person."
-

When you come over to England to congratulate her is your constituency in Leicester by any chance the one won by Momentum candidate Claudia Webb who took over from the disgraced Labour MP Keith Vaz?

I can only conclude you no longer have a Second home in Market Harborough which was a Conservative win.

I honestly thought if one Leicester Constituency were to change hands it would have been Leicester East as the Momentum backed Claudia Webb /Chair of Labour's Disputes Panel who was parachuted in as a candidate did cause a but of a backlash. Her backing of Ken Livingstone over anti_semetic comment, the fact she was not liked by many in certain parts of the Indian community of Leicester East etc. could have turned out to be a Labour loss.

To be fair she obviously did win but other than winning for Labour I am of the opinion in time there could surface some tension given her history, I probably will be wrong.

GrandmaMoira, in actual fact I voted remain, though I was very torn but, ultimately came down to remain because I had concerns about the economy. But because I was unsure I am able to see the remain and leave arguments. Perhaps that’s better than to be so absolutely sure one way or the other.

Callistemon - no stats yet for this election, but in the last 2 elections nearly 4x as many ethnic minority voters voted Labour than voted Tory, although the percentage was not as high Remain vs Brexit in 2016. www.runnymedetrust.org Martin & Khan (2019)

As a gweilo Gagajo won’t be subjected to the same rules and regulations as the indigenous population.
At least she would probably be deported rather than incarcerated or killed for her dissent (if she had any).

Their system doesn't pretend to be democracy. And they are remarkably free from worry as a result. Politics don't impinge on their daily life at all. Last time I lived there it was remarkably freeing.

Remarkably freeing as long as you don't want to express any disagreement. Remarkably freeing as long as you don't mind your internet being heavily censored. Remarkably freeing as long as you aren't Muslim. Remarkably freeing if you care not about climate change. Remarkably freeing if you care not a jot for human rights violations, false imprisonment etc. I suppose we now know what you don't care about GagaJo care to enlighten us about something you do care about? Always remembering that in the UK you are free to disagree with and criticise any aspect of life, or indeed any politician.

I gave a reason a few pages back. I said I don’t want to be governed by a group of people in another country. Simple as. There’s no other reason for me, except I feel Boris is very direct, where others are just shifty!

nannypink1 Sat 14-Dec-19 16:25:53

Democracy has won in the end ....all the MPs in leave areas who voted against their constituents were sent a message on Thursday ....mess with us and we’ll come back to bite you ....and we have

GrandmaMoira Sat 14-Dec-19 16:14:21

Maddy - Your post is one of the first ever times I have seen a Leaver give a reason why they want to Leave. It makes it easier to understand people wanting to leave when I hear a reason.

maddyone Sat 14-Dec-19 14:51:16

Callistemon grin

Callistemon Sat 14-Dec-19 12:52:18

Did you have to maddyone!
I shall have "I wanna know where love is" as an ear worm all day now
grin

My DD is a foreigner then.

MerylStreep Sat 14-Dec-19 12:23:58

Define foreighner. A person not native to or naturalised in the country or jurisdiction under consideration.

maddyone Sat 14-Dec-19 11:56:14

I tried to define ‘foreigner’ for you inkcog (though it wasn’t me who used the term) and when I looked it up on Google, it turns out that Foreigner is a British/American rock band formed in New York grin

inkcog Sat 14-Dec-19 11:01:13

Would anybody....perhaps timetogo.....like to define foreigner?

maddyone Sat 14-Dec-19 10:59:23

It’s worth remembering, that whether we like the result or not, that our elections are free. No one is pressurised to vote in a particular way. Our democracy is precious, we should all value it.

maddyone Sat 14-Dec-19 10:56:50

Growstuff, in all fairness, when we put our cross in the box, there are different candidates to choose from. There are countries in this world where there’s only one box, and that’s where you must put your cross ( if you don’t want anything happening to you.)

growstuff Sat 14-Dec-19 09:32:04

It's such a shame that some people don't seem to grasp that democracy is about more than putting a cross in a box.

Esspee Sat 14-Dec-19 07:31:59

I am proud to live in a democracy. There have been referenda and elections that I have voted in in the past where the results were the opposite of my wishes but I accepted that the majority had spoken and moved on.
Time a lot of you did the same.

Yehbutnobut Sat 14-Dec-19 07:14:20

I think BB we will read more of this and see more racism in the streets. Boris has shown a typical public school ‘Hooray Henry’ attitude to minority religions, gays, the disable and disadvantaged seen clearly in his vocabulary.

Some people will take this as permission to reveal their true colours.

PamelaJ1 Sat 14-Dec-19 07:04:37

Bluebelle, That isn’t what timetogo actually wrote.

BlueBelle Sat 14-Dec-19 05:46:06

Did someone just say I dont dislike foreigners I just dont want them in my schools and hospitals
Oh my God I hope when you become ill and are rushed to hospital you make sure you don’t have a foreigner saving your life timetogo what a truly awful thing to say
I can’t believe (well yes I can) that anyone can think like that what a truly nasty thing to think let alone say, it really shows you up for what you are
I m horrified by your attitude no wonder we are in the mess we re in with such racist views in our mids unbelievable

maddyone Sat 14-Dec-19 00:51:56

It’s beyond belief that anyone could be as blinkered as you Gagajo. Are you actually for real? China a better place to live than Britain. Well when you’ve gone, I seriously hope you behave yourself and don’t upset the authorities because you really wouldn’t like what they do with dissenters. One thing for sure is that in that awful possibility, you would be asking for British assistance to be brought back.

Callistemon Fri 13-Dec-19 23:26:42

But not about their human rights!!
Or pollution

GagaJo Fri 13-Dec-19 23:23:35

Switzerland first. Snow, mountains, apres ski, fresh air. Loins to be girded prior to a return to my 2nd home.

Chinese are happy for me to rant about Britain.

Callistemon Fri 13-Dec-19 23:20:09

I won't be here
I hope you're making the most of your freedom of speech and the internet before you go GagaJo

Merry Christmas and a joyous Chinese New Year

GagaJo Fri 13-Dec-19 23:12:26

Actually, lemongrove, JC and the LP predicted most of the above LONG LONG before the election was ever suggested.

The possibility of socialism in the UK was too dangerous for the establishment. There was no way the Murdochs of the world were going to let go of their control.

We only have a choice if it's an equal playing field. And it isn't and probably never will be again.

It's almost irrelevant to me. I won't be here. And I won't vote or participate next time. It's just a puppet show.

I've enjoyed having a party leader who was honest and had integrity. So refreshing.

Onwards and upwards.
