Will the remainers admit defeat?

I have always said that if there was another referendum the country would vote to leave again. We have voted to leave the EU three times!

2016 Referendum - the country voted to leave
2017 General Election - Hung parliament and a bit of a hiccup due to Theresa May running a poor campaign.
2019 European Election - the country voted to leave when the Brexit Party turned the country Brexit blue.
2019 General Election - the country voted to leave with a massive Conservative majority.

How many more times does the country need to say we want to leave the EU?

GagaJo

Good cartoon - about 95% accurate I'd say.

There are a few quotes on your link that are more applicable to the country that you hold in such high esteem rather than the uk.
Dirty air
Tap computer messages
Limit internet freedom.
No laws for industry.

Gagajo thought you were moving to China to work????

none of us grannies will ever be able to forget about Brexit for the rest of our lives
I can only speak for myself but your absolutely correct. And to make sure ( for as long as I live) we will have a huge party every 31st of January. Very handy date ?

Callistemon Sun 22-Dec-19 19:57:08

And I can't forget the Australian fires I witnessed either.

Dinahmo posts about the reasons she cannot forget about brexit.

None of us grannies will ever be able to forget about brexit for the rest of our lives.

"Get brexit done" was a lie. It will not be done for ten, twenty or more years.

Brexit will blight the futures of our children and grandchildren.

No wonder so many of our brightest and best are joining the brexit brain drain and moving to other EU countries.

GracesGranMK3 Sun 22-Dec-19 19:24:44

A majority (if it as actually a majority) is just that; a lot of people wanting the same thing. But no one can argue that this means they are necessarily right.

Callistemon Sun 22-Dec-19 19:16:59

Laibak, yes we do
But not on the scale we used to and they have found other markets.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 22-Dec-19 18:49:54

Sorry Tiptree Jam (Wilkinsons) is much tastier than Bon Mamon.

Dinahmo Sun 22-Dec-19 18:42:20

Does anybody remember the Tory back bencher who suggested that the former royal yacht Britannia be refurbished and sent sailing off around the world with British goods - whisky, Burberry raincoats and jam - the best in the world. Just tell that to the French with their Bon Maman.

The Chinese aren't buying so many Rolls Royces now.

One of the things we Brits are really good at is the Arts. The Royal Ballet is one of the best ballet companies in the world, we produce world class designers - fashion, industrial, architecture - artists, craftsmen and musicians. Yet they aren't properly recognised and funding is constantly being cut.

Other nations are proud of their artistic culture but not the Brits until it is rammed down their throats, as for example, the opening ceremony of the Olympics.

The above are some reasons why I cannot forget about Brexit.

Dinahmo Sun 22-Dec-19 18:22:44

Callistemon Maybe you should reread my post about the Australian fire service. There was no criticism, implied or otherwise of that service. My criticism was of the Australian PM and by extension, the government.

My comment about counselling (if you thought that was a criticism) was because many of the fire fighters have been traumatised by the sights and sounds of the animals burning in the fires. And also because of the deaths of and severe injuries to fire fighters.

Back in November it was reported that 1000 koala bears had died in the bush fires. I have read any more recent figures.

At the moment, trade between the UK and Australia is miniscule. What exactly do you think the Australians will want to buy from the UK and what will we want to buy from Australia with lower tariffs? Given that Australia is 12,000 miles away, there's a limit to what kind of trade could ever be realistic.

MerylStreep Sun 22-Dec-19 18:13:11

Labaik
If we get free trade deals or deals with lower tariffs ( outside the eu) then yes we will.
Trade talks with the eu are a completely different matter.

Labaik Sun 22-Dec-19 17:58:34

But we'll definitely be better off than we are now then, surely...

MerylStreep Sun 22-Dec-19 17:30:12

Labaik
Who knows? Maybe we will, maybe we won't, maybe we will get a trade deal that sets lower tariffs as now set by the eu.

Labaik Sun 22-Dec-19 17:18:54

So we will definitely get a free trade deal with these countries after 31st January...

MerylStreep Sun 22-Dec-19 17:11:25

Labaik
Yes we do trade with our commonwealth friends, but we pay a tariff.
My OH orders from Australia and America. The Australian tariffs are higher than the US.

Labaik Sun 22-Dec-19 16:53:39

Don't we trade with the Commonwealth? At all. Not even a teeny bit?

Callistemon Sun 22-Dec-19 15:45:51

I found it really sickening when we abandoned Commonwealth countries in favour of the EU Alexa.

Surely we could have continued trade with both and allowed Commonwealth citizens the same rights as those afforded EU citizens.

Callistemon Sun 22-Dec-19 15:43:40

confused
It was your unfounded critixism of Australian fire services used as an anti-Brexit remark which I did not think was appropriate under the circumstances.
