What now for Labour Party ?

I think the Labour Party has plenty of talent on its back benches, but the current system of choosing a leader needs to be overcome.

Find Seb Dance a safe Labour seat when he comes back from the EU.

Fennel the Labour Party needs young leaders who will look forward not leaders who look back.

Incidentally Gaga, you’ll notice that I did not mention the apparently mismatched shoes, and I have no idea whether the photo was photo shopped or not. Nor do I particularly care, I’ve known a number of people who have mistakenly put on mismatched shoes and gone out in them, including my dearly loved, departed father. He went out in one black and one brown shoe, bless him.

Gaga, I base my opinion of Diane Abbott on a variety of interviews/political programmes that I have watched. Do not assume I got my view of her from right wing newspapers. I find that where she was an articulate speaker in her younger days, she no longer is so, in my opinion. Just my opinion Gaga, you’re entitled to yours.

Fennel Blair and Brown, not forgetting John Smith brought the Labour Party out of the 14 year wilderness, not forgetting the work Kinnock did , he had to take on the militants and fight back from the disaster of the 70’s and the 1983 election.

The party has to move forward not try to bring back the past.

It is 22 years since Blair won the first election. Surely we can learn from the past but not try to return to the past.

Blair is the only labour leader to win three consecutive general elections, he got something right.

Like Dooddlebug and Grandad, earlier today, I think the LP must re-think their priorites as a an effective modern oppositon to the Tories. Who have been pursuing their current landowning financial superiority since the days of Dickens, if not before.
And only then choose a leader.
But not a weak compromise as with Blair in 1997.

As an aside, I was quite shocked to discover that, apart from the Tony Blair wins, Labour hasn't won an election for over 50 years.

Wes Streeting is fantastic; I would almost vote for him and very impressed with his media style; apparently told JC to his face he would lose the Election for Labour. but poor old Jc is one of those people who think stubbornness is strength and puts hope before experience.

We can forget Lisa Nandy, she was on the first front bench when Corbyn became leader and was one of the many who resigned their post.

MP’s wanted her to stand against Corbyn in the second leadership contest , she refused but was on Owen Smiths support team .

Yvette Cooper might be seen as a safe pair of hands: mature but not "too old"; has ministerial experience; female; previously stood against Corbyn for the leadership in 2015 and came third (the runner up then, Andy Burnham, has left parliament and so would not be a contender now).

If a younger candidate is preferred, Wes Streeting may be one to watch - almost rabid in his anti-Corbyn views. He obviously has something going for him as far as his constituents are concerned because he's just been re-elected in Ilford North, an area with one of the highest Jewish populations in the country.

Maddyone, if you check Facebook, Diane Abbott has a full and thriving fan club. I've been on it a while and it had thousands of members, not one of whom mocks or makes fun.

She's been a full and productive MP. You only have to Google her to see her active parliamentary history.

IF you believe the same right-wing propaganda that saw Labour off this time round about Diane Abbott, fair enough. But I wouldn't expect that from a Labour supporter!

LullyDully Not Ed Balls , he was dreadful in Education. Sweet in Strictly but that is a different field altogether.
Sadly such is the state of thing that I think being on Strictly is more of a qualification than anything else. After all without HIGNFY Boris would be sees as the corrupt lying self seeker he really is. It's the media image that matters everything else is just boring!
