"Staff have been in tears since the announcement and are devastated that the decision may affect patient care and their livelihoods.”

West Midlands Ambulance Service said it lost out because it "refused to compromise on patient safety".

This has been going on for quite a while

They have trouble recruiting along with other reasons.

But this isn't 'new' news

Not saying it's a good thing, either.

As has been said this has been going on for at least 10 yrs. In London almost all the patient transport is now in the hands of private ambulance/taxi firms and not for the better just cheap.
