As a bit of amusement I was trying to work ut how long Boris will stick at the job of PM. He's not big on commitment. I think he'll want to go down in history as the man who did Brexit, but I don't think he'll wnt to stick around afterwards. I think he'll be getting himself bounced up to the H of Lords once it's done. Anyone else want to guess at how long he'll last?

Have you met may ? talked to them? Do you have friends from the traveler community?

GrannyGravy13 Sun 22-Dec-19 19:33:31

MerylStreep the travellers are back at Dale Farm.

Chestnut
It cost Basildon council £6 million, yes £6million of tax payers money to evict the illegal occupants of Dale Farm.
But like all communities there are good and bad. When I lived in Bulgaria I employed the best and some of the worst.

We have all read about these illegal gypsy camps

I read Cinderella, doesn't make it true.

If they abide by the law of the land then there will be no problem trisher. However, it is the taxpayer who is the victim here not the travellers.

For instance, Exeter City Council paid out nearly £20k moving traveller groups off their land over two years, 17 encampments across eight locations, lasting for a total of 118 days and consisting of 106 caravans. These encampments 'on city council-owned land used by the public, is causing distress to users and nearby residents. And the same sites may be re-revisited and often barriers are cut or fences uprooted to gain access'. There was anti-social behaviour and intimidation. Clearing up after them is a major problem.

I could go on but you get the idea. This is just one location, but it's happening all over the country.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 22-Dec-19 17:37:28

I think the residents living near Dale Farm in Essex will 100% disagree with you trisher

Yehbutnobut Sun 22-Dec-19 17:27:25

I think we might indeed be further down that road already.

trisher Sun 22-Dec-19 17:20:51

Of course there are some travellers who break the law, but if people can't see that condemning and blaming the whole traveller population for the misbehaviour of a few is exactly racism and clamping down on every traveller is state racism then we are further down the right wing road to fascism than I imagined.

Yehbutnobut Sun 22-Dec-19 17:17:11

No need to worry about Boris. He will hang himself with his own petard before too long.

vinasol Sun 22-Dec-19 17:00:09

I just can't take to him. I always feel that he thinks everything is a joke. However, that is just my personal opinion and I sincerely hope that he makes a difference to the country. Let's face it, we need it.

JenniferEccles Sun 22-Dec-19 16:56:11

We have all read about these illegal gypsy camps setting up all over the country and blighting the lives of poor residents living nearby.

There is intimidation, aggression, crime not to mention the filth left behind when the authorities eventually get round to evicting them.

This dreadful situation has been allowed to continue for far too long, so this new plan to crackdown on these camps is long overdue.

Why should these people think the law doesn’t apply to them?

Chestnut Sun 22-Dec-19 16:54:33

Not racism at all trisher because I have no problem with their ethnic group, just the behaviour of those who would make life a misery for local residents. You know it happens.

Riverwalk Sun 22-Dec-19 16:52:57

Maybe they should get their act together and make sure they all behave, then people wouldn't dislike them so much.

Collective responsibility Chestnut?

Are you responsible for the behaviour of all your family, neighbours, co-religionists, political party, etc?

trisher Sun 22-Dec-19 16:47:00

Yes inkcog strange as it may seem I still believe in the inate goodness of most people. I know people complain about travellers but I didn't think they descended to such levels.

Labaik Sun 22-Dec-19 16:44:39

'First they came for.....'sad….

inkcog Sun 22-Dec-19 16:41:31

astonished trisher? really?

trisher Sun 22-Dec-19 16:25:07

Chestnut the obvious racism in your post astonishes me. Would you dare to post such comments about any other ethnic group? Criminal behaviour is punishable by law already. Why on earth would you need such restrictive practices?

Chestnut Sun 22-Dec-19 14:13:10

Don't start about travellers trisher! There have been such horrendous stories about their criminal behaviour and how local communities have suffered as a result, it is not surprising people want some control over them. I'm sure there are some who are responsible but also many who are not and seem to be above the law which is not right. Maybe they should get their act together and make sure they all behave, then people wouldn't dislike them so much.

trisher Sun 22-Dec-19 12:29:07

I'm just looking at policies Chestnut such as the targeting of traveller communities. www.redpepper.org.uk/election-2019-the-latest-attack-on-travelling-communities/
They were one of the first to suffer along with the disabled. That's how things started in the 1930s

Chestnut Sun 22-Dec-19 11:52:42

Are you really comparing Boris to Hitler trisher? That is absolutely disgusting. We are not living in Nazi Germany and you really should get a grip of your imagination.

lavenderzen Sun 22-Dec-19 11:28:55

Boris will be in power for at least 2 terms. He WON the election, get over it. He was advised, took that advice, and made sure the people were behind him by going to see the areas and speak to folk.

The alternative : JC with his idiotic policies, blinkered view on what the country wants, no thank you.

trisher Sun 22-Dec-19 11:23:23

I believe that was the perceived view at the time*Chestnut*. I wonder if any far right people really recognise what they have done?

Chestnut Sun 22-Dec-19 11:18:32

Nothing wrong with inspirational speeches trisher when the country needs a boost. It's what is said that counts. You like others are confusing ring wing with far right. I think we all know that far right and far left are equally as dangerous.

trisher Sun 22-Dec-19 11:09:14

Mmm a right wing government with a leader who makes inspirational speeches-maybe we have been here before!!!
