I think my post was really just meant to illustrate the RF have access to tip top care, by a professor and his team, screening, scans etc. A paediatrician on call for the royal little ones, an ENT surgeon if they have tonsillitis or croup.

Yes, genetics and lifestyle choices (too much alcohol, smoking eating etc) make a big difference - but my point was they don’t have to worry. Every time they don’t feel well - voila! - a super qualified medic turns up to reassure and soothe them. Priceless in my opinion.

Lizzie the German perhaps?

Anniebach Sat 21-Dec-19 20:14:01

For me it’s the monarchy with its faults than election after election for a president,

annep1 Sat 21-Dec-19 20:08:28

I think there's a huge difference between funding our monarchy and a republic.
But I see no point in discussing it further, it's been done before so many times.

I'd be careful making such comments on a public Forum- blimey. If it hit the Daily Mail - you will have some answering to do justrolljanet - or are you trolling?

Anniebach Sat 21-Dec-19 20:05:35

I assume it is acceptable to call the duchess of Sussex

Meg the Yank ?

SirChenjin Sat 21-Dec-19 20:01:08

No it doesn’t - but some countries do equality better than others.

Anniebach Sat 21-Dec-19 20:00:51

Phil the Greek ? 2019 and still acceptable?

Anniebach Sat 21-Dec-19 19:56:19

Equality for all doesn’t exist in one country in this world

justrolljanet Sat 21-Dec-19 19:52:18

When my now 89 year old father was a Royal Marine one of his jobs was to drive Phil the Greeks motor launch, to take him to and from whatever ship/ yacht he was staying on at the time, usually I was told, " to meet ladies for overnight encounters " one particular journey he ended up grounding the Launch plus D of E, He was pulled over the coals for that one !

MerylStreep they don't show up in Chrome, and that wasn't what I meant by quoting.

blueskies Sat 21-Dec-19 19:46:32

If the old boy had to join a queue for hospital admission as we do the queen might have made a very different speech this week. As my old gran would have said — She’s never had to donkey stone a door step.

Pantglas2 Sat 21-Dec-19 19:41:21

Of course you can hate whichever institution you like annep1 whatever makes you happy.

However I hope you don’t think that replacing the monarchy with a president would change anything- that person and their family would still have more money than you, better health care than you and better food than you et cetera.

As you too have more money than lots, have better health care and food than so many on this planet. There is no such thing as equality under a monarchy or republic.

SirChenjin Sat 21-Dec-19 19:30:34

There are no haters (what a silly expression that is) on here Pantglas, there are merely people who disagree with you and who feel as annepl does.

There’s lots of research and evidence which shows that life expectancy and health is linked to deprivation (or its absence) - I’m surprised this has come as a surprise to anyone.

annep1 Sat 21-Dec-19 19:26:46

Pantglas haters lol. How ridiculous. I certainly do not hate anyone in the RF. But I hate the monarchy as an institution and that's my choice to make.
Nor am I stupid enough to think having money makes everything ok. I didn't see anyone saying that. You have no right to say people are feeding their hatred just because their view differs from yours.l

Anniebach Sat 21-Dec-19 19:23:44

annepl how can you say they have a life with lack of stress,
and there is no need to shop at F&M for good quality food.

They royal family are not more important than us, the many
who pay for private health care are not more important than us. We are not more important than those who beg on the streets .

inkcog Sat 21-Dec-19 19:13:24

I am not a hater, I turn my tap on and water comes out, I turn the fire on and heat comes out. That makes me a very very lucky person.

I don't really mind the RF one way or the other. I do think money buys you good medical care quickly if needs be.

annep1 Sat 21-Dec-19 19:09:28

Anniebach I paid contributions for health care all my working life and quite a lot of tax.
My tax helps to fund the royals first class health care. And after paying for them to have better treatment than me I am forced to pay for Benenden as it's the most I can afford, to supplement the inadequate NHS treatment. And yes, I know its good when we eventually get it!!
And please don't tell me the RF have their own money which their predecessors worked hard for ..because they didn't.
And I do hope Philip is ok. I don't like to see anyone suffering. But the fact is their lack of stress in life and top health care not to mention top quality food (F&M no less!) helps ensure they have a much better than average chance of living a long and happy life. Surely no one can actually deny that.
I don't mind anyone having private health care if they pay for it with money they have earned honestly. But we shouldn't have to .. and those who can't are suffering.
If we buy something in a shop and it's not fit for purpose we can demand a refund. Well, most of us aren't getting the service we paid for.
I bet the RF are still getting the best. Why are they more important than the taxpayer??

Baggs Sat 21-Dec-19 19:01:31

Money absolutely does buy you health - it’s a well known fact.

On average.

But could it also be that healthier people are, on average, more successful in life, and therefore, on average, richer? This is not to blame less healthy people in any way. Good health genes do exist, I suppose, and are inheritable.

Pantglas2 Sat 21-Dec-19 19:00:01

Sorry SirChenjin is it not clear?

The haters, IMO of course, are the people who think that having pots of money makes life a bed of roses.... those people. They probably know who they are. They probably wouldn’t acknowledge that they’re full of hate of course. But they are, and the rest of us know it.

Saetana Sat 21-Dec-19 18:59:55

I personally think that people who can afford to pay for private healthcare should do so, helping save the NHS money in the process. The Royals fall into this bracket. Oh, and before anyone chimes in, I obviously do not mean emergency care - private hospitals do not have this capability. I so dislike the politics of envy that I see sometimes here on Gransnet. I would not have the Queen's job, no matter how much you pay me. This lady has sacrificed most of her life to the country and the monarchy - and she is still performing some official engagements even now. Prince Phillip is a few years older, no doubt with a number of ongoing medical conditions, and a well-known hater of "fussing". Beyond that, this is none of anyone else's business!

inkcog Sat 21-Dec-19 18:55:00

Who are the " haters?"

SirChenjin Sat 21-Dec-19 18:52:21

Haters?! What on Earth are you on about Pantglas

Anniebach Sat 21-Dec-19 18:45:53

Yes Pantglas. I am so grateful we have the NHS but I would have turned to prostitution to make money to save my darling daughter, if I had been 50 years younger ! .

Pantglas2 Sat 21-Dec-19 18:37:14

The haters don’t want to read about them Anniebach because it doesn’t fit their thinking that having money makes everything ok. Even if they had it, they’d find something else to feed their hatred!
