Travelling to DS house in Surrey on Christmas Eve bit worried now after reading all this

We are fine,apart from the leaking ceiling, thanks jura. As you know our village is mostly high above the river and we are at the top of a small rise. The surrounding villages are not faring so well though.

Certainly been wet here...

Change in weather patterns now bringing more frequent and longer periods of wet weather.Should we blame extremes of flooding on just more rain? but not look more carefully at what humanity itself is doing.? Population increase requires more homes.Urbanisation does not come without a price Dig up what was once green and pleasant land to make way for roads, homes etc.Excess water has to go somewhere .Not a problem if you live at the top of a hill ??Flooding will affect us all at some time, one way or another.

The Soar Valley is less valley and more Soar at the moment!!

Ah for sure- poor people. I have a couple of young friends and daughter who recently moved from California to Sydney- because of the fires - so sad. Lots of family in Sydney and Canberra- the smoke has been awful.

It rained again after early sun.

Coming home it wasn't raining but a car passed me at speed on the other side, went through water and just drenched my car so I couldn't see - it was like going through a waterfall.

I don't think that heat, the air full of smoke and ash, having to evacuate your home to escape fires is preferable to this rain.

Although I feel so sorry for anyone whose home has been flooded out.

I'm on the Notts /Derby border and it hasn't stopped raining for weeks! Our ponies look really fed up and the field is a bog. I've lost count how many times the river 2 fields below has broken it's banks.

Give me that awful heat anytime over wet, wet weather.

It’s got to be preferable instead of this dreadful rain, rain, rain and dampness.

Sandbags here too (yesterday morning) for the garage door and a rather low air brick at the back. It just happens when we have heavy rain and waterlogged ground. Parts of the garden became ponds for a while!

It was raining again by 12. So much for the sun . Just teasing us I expect

Having during the summer spent time and money on a patio that had suffered from a previous SW mild and very wet winter to see it once again turning green.Now thinking of making patio into a water feature.

Lovely day in sunny Oxfordshire, although it is beginning to cloud up.

I went out for a walk this morning carrying a big shopping bag and secateurs to collect ivy for the Christmas decorations. My usual path crosses our local brook, which has a flood warning in operation at present. I got about half way down it, when it became completely lost in the water that had overflowed from the brook.

I got my ivy, but my circular walk, was reduced to me returning back the way I came.

Our front and back fields are totally flooded, looks like we have 2 lakes ! Spent 2 hours yesterday going for damage limitation ....Luckily tho we only need sandbags for the garage ... phew?

We have far,far,far too much rain these days but in Australia they're suffering record breaking temperatures and unprecedented bush fires.

What's gone wrong with the world?

We live at the top of a hill in Surrey & our road goes UP from the top of the hill. Our garden is under water- the ponds have over-flowed onto the grass & we have to wear wellies to get out to feed the birds. We've lived here since 1992 & have never seen it like this before.
I hope my bulbs survive as they have been water-logged for 4 days now. I would actually welcome snow right now! At least you can sweep that away.

Can anyone remember those days when drain cleaning and river dredging was a regular occurance? We haven't seen a drain cleaner around here for years, but every time it rains one route out of town now regularly floods. Right next to it developers are building a massive housing estate - on a flood plane.

“Too soon”

Don’t wish to speak too on Merlot but despite the heavy traffic I didn’t get lost! (Unlike last summer when I swear I circumnavigated the same village at least twice and ended up going back the way I had come.)
Traffic should have eased by then for you too ???
