I loved the message it sent to the country. We may not have the government we wanted but all those who had a re-energized belief in British politics are still there. Solidarity!

I'm aware the usual naysayers will be on here, hurling abuse. But they don't cancel out that lovely message. If anything, they make it even more important.

I thought I heard it, can't say for definite whether it was Oh Jeremy Cornyn or whether they were singing the words of the actual song but even if they were singing JC it's not really surprising considering there would have been 1000's of Londoners there (majority being Labour supporters) plus Sadiq Khan would have deliberately chose that song in order to get that response

Paris is worth a mass.

Action speaks louder than words, if he was truely against Trident he wouldn’t have bowed to pressure,

trisher Thu 02-Jan-20 17:52:23

The work remains POGS it hasn't disappeared. He may have bowed to party pressure (and isn't it funny how he is criticised for doing that and for not doing it!) but his speeches and his peace work will continue. The problem is that the powerful people who make vast profits from arms dealing would see him as a real threat

'POGS he got another one in 2017 Sean MacBride Peace Prize
www.ipb.org/jeremy-corbyn/'
----

Established in 1992, the Seán MacBride Peace Prize is awarded by the International Peace Bureau to a person or organisation that "has done outstanding work for peace, disarmament and/or human rights."

I wonder what they think of Corbyn stating now he would keep ''Trident' after opposing it's mere being whilst getting the award?

Anniebach Thu 02-Jan-20 17:35:59

Not one lemon , Just accused me of being a closet Tory, no matter, I was right, well nearly , I said we would have a repeat of 1983, it was a repeat of 1935.

lemongrove Thu 02-Jan-20 16:29:13

Anniebach....has any LP voter on here ever said to you
‘You were right all along! He has been a disaster for the LP’.....(and if not, why not?) You were the first ( and only) Left wing voice to say what you thought about him years ago!

lemongrove Thu 02-Jan-20 16:24:54

Are you his fan Yennifer ?

Callistemon Thu 02-Jan-20 16:24:19

Oh dear Jeremy Corbyn
???
Drumroll please ?

lemongrove Thu 02-Jan-20 16:22:13

Do you like Keir Starmer trisher? Seems he has a good chance of being the new LOTO.

Yennifer Thu 02-Jan-20 16:21:37

Oh Jeremy Corbyn!

lemongrove Thu 02-Jan-20 16:20:50

Anyway, we don’t need to bother about him anymore, he will become a footnote in history.

lemongrove Thu 02-Jan-20 16:19:11

Ah, not the same Ghandi peace prize.
Well, he’s a pacifist of course ( although some say he would talk people to death)?
A pacifist and one man protest party, but not suitable to be PM.

trisher Thu 02-Jan-20 16:08:42

He is certainly no Isaiah, Anniebach

POGS Thu 02-Jan-20 16:03:39

It's an interesting topic, Corbyn and Peace Prizes.

The UK Gandhi Foundation Peace Prize, not be confused with the more prestigious International Indian Government Gandhi Peace Prize was indeed given to Corbyn in 2013.

That was before he became Labour Leader and could be called a principled/conviction politician who was opposed to Trident.

As Labour Leader he stated Labour was 'committed ' to Trident. Principled /conviction politicians are all the same when wanting to obtain power and Corbyn was no different to any other. Of course there has been the absurdity of whether or not he would protect the country if required by using Trident but that is another question we will never know the answer to.

It could be the case Corbyn if elected overruled all others and indeed scrapped Trident once in power but he would have done so by deceiving the voter both in personal and by what the Labour Manifesto stated.

A Prophet ? Got the election results wrong three times,
not a successful prophet is he.

Anniebach Thu 02-Jan-20 13:46:32

I have an explanation to the singing of ‘oh Jeremy Corbyn’,

It was a lament , as a parent to a child who failed maths,

‘Oh Freddie Smith’

trisher Thu 02-Jan-20 13:43:52

Lemon The Ghandi Foundation think differently in 2013 he was awarded their Peace Prize
The Trustees of The Gandhi Foundation agreed to offer him our International Peace Award in recognition of his consistent efforts over a 30 year Parliamentary career to uphold the Gandhian values of social justice and non‐violence. Besides being a popular and hard‐working constituency MP he has made time to speak and write extensively in support of human rights at home and world‐wide. His committed opposition to neocolonial wars and to nuclear weapons has repeatedly shown the lack of truth in the arguments of those who have opposed him.
A Prophet is not without honour save in his own country.

lucywinter Thu 02-Jan-20 13:32:10

What was he chanting?

Callistemon Thu 02-Jan-20 13:28:42

You are attributing far more importance to him than he ever actually had as a backbencher!

Most people had never heard of him. He was a boring rebel.

Most people, though, had heard of Denis Skinner because he was never boring.

lemongrove Thu 02-Jan-20 13:28:15

It seems that Starmer is the poll favourite of Labour members.....interesting.

lemongrove Thu 02-Jan-20 13:26:29

The peace process in NI was not won by a lowly backbencher like Corbyn trisher.hmm

lemongrove Thu 02-Jan-20 13:25:00

It is amazing though, from the quasi adulation at Glastonbury to finding that he’s unwanted, the rise and fall of Jeremy Corbyn is bound to be a book ( out soon!)

trisher Thu 02-Jan-20 13:23:41

So you only care about the people killed by the IRA Annie there were years and years of people dying through the RUC of course it's not someting the government like to acknowledge. Possibly because the party they were hand in glove with has close links to that. Incidently did you know that the first bomb in the Troubles was in fact a Loyalist bomb and an attempt to stop a more conciliatory attitude towards the Catholic population? It succeeded.
