Two days into the New Year and Trump sets the whole of world peace into jeopardy There will be huge repercussions

lemongrove Fri 03-Jan-20 13:35:50

It’s knowing when to stop, of course....but hopefully DT will have good advice on that.

Urmstongran Fri 03-Jan-20 13:34:56

I don’t think he is stupid at all. He is surrounded by military advisers on this.

Obama sent cash to appease; Trump sent retribution to warn against any future aggression.

lemongrove Fri 03-Jan-20 13:34:17

Yes, drone technology is amazing isn’t it? The intel behind knowing where certain people are, from thousands of miles away.
Don’t anyone feel sorry for the man (General) he has been happy enough to plot the destruction of others for a long time.
The US flexes it’s considerable muscle now and then when
‘Poked’ if it didn’t, the Middle Eastern countries would perceive it as ‘weak’ and would go on pushing and pushing.

Alexa Fri 03-Jan-20 13:29:05

So many people are going to be killed because of Trump's escalation of violence.

He is a really stupid man.

Urmstongran Fri 03-Jan-20 13:01:11

Iran made its bed. I feel bad for the every day people living in Iran just trying to get by, and hope they will not be harmed.

This leader however was a strategic target. Well done US special forces.

New form of war, take out military leaders keep the innocent public out if possible. The drones in use are amazing - hard to track and super reliable.

Urmstongran Fri 03-Jan-20 12:51:24

Ah I don’t mind Ug being used Lavenderzen it’s quicker and especially if I’m being agreed with (!) I look upon it as a term of endearment!
?

inkycog Fri 03-Jan-20 12:40:50

I am perplexed by this " Put America First". Really can anybody add to my understanding.

inkycog Fri 03-Jan-20 12:39:44

Jennifer a question for you....What does " Put America First" mean?

In real terms, what does it mean....if they are first who is last?

I don't know anything about the intricacies of Middle Eastern conflict but I know this is not good for anyone.

merlotgran Fri 03-Jan-20 12:38:27

So relieved our DSiL's deployment in the middle east ended just before Christmas. We still have ships out there though so a worrying time for families.

BlueBelle Fri 03-Jan-20 12:36:13

Of course he wasn’t right jenniferecckes he’s a nightmare I have many more names for this mentally deranged up his own axxx man, but think my post might get removed if I said them
Since the day he took office I said ‘if anyone ever starts WW3 it will be him’
Yes the Middle East is very unstable and you do not poke an unstable animal with a long stick

lavenderzen Fri 03-Jan-20 12:33:38

Should have put the full name Urmstongran sounds a bit rude now I look at it.

lavenderzen Fri 03-Jan-20 12:29:14

Shocked to hear this on the tv this morning. Agree with Ug .

Urmstongran Fri 03-Jan-20 12:26:13

Those militias would still be trying to take Mosul if the US hadn’t gutted ISIS from the air. Iran wants to play hands off each time they move a pawn across the board. Seems he US aren't playing anymore.

GillT57 Fri 03-Jan-20 12:21:51

A lot of the motivation for Trump's actions is to do the opposite or reverse whatever Obama did. Because Obama, supported by most of the West, slightly eased the sanctions on Iran in exchange for Iran ceasing their nuclear experimentation, then Trump had to refuse to renew the agreement and therefore incense an already unstable administration even further. This man child is dangerous, his tantrums are putting all of us at risk. The Middle East is and always has been, a very volatile region, with Muslim hating Muslim, human right violations etc., and I fear that this will make things far worse and as others have said, give ideologically driven terrorists reasons to attack all of us, 'us' being seen as representative of Trump.

JenniferEccles Fri 03-Jan-20 12:11:39

Oh well if Corbyn condemns it...... !!

JenniferEccles Fri 03-Jan-20 12:10:27

Like him or loathe him, Donald Trump has always vowed to put America first.

Was he right in this instance?
Time will tell.

I can understand the view that the volatile Middle East should be left to carry on with their senseless battles but it is not always as simple as that.

Urmstongran Fri 03-Jan-20 11:29:22

When Iran said there is not a thing Trump can do....well, it was a case of ‘hold my drink’.

I see Corbyn condemns it. Just now in breaking news.

ladymuck Fri 03-Jan-20 11:28:59

You are correct, Urmstongran. It did seem as though Iran was trying to provoke the US into a confrontation. Perhaps they will use it as an excuse to attack Israel?

maddyone Fri 03-Jan-20 11:26:02

You’re right of course Ladymuck. I have taken my DH to task sometimes on his views, but that’s what he thinks, and seriously I begin to wonder. He thinks life is cheap in the Middle East. Is he wrong?

Absolutely correct Urmstongran.

Urmstongran Fri 03-Jan-20 11:23:32

Although I wish it hadn't come to this, there was a timeline of aggressions from Iran against the U.S and its allies that couldnt be ignored indefinitely.

Credible intelligence of larger attacks against the U.S. being planned also had to be dealt with. Iran will always be a hotbed of terrorism and hate. Glad that one of their mastermind terrorists is no longer able to murder anyone.

ladymuck Fri 03-Jan-20 11:21:04

Yes, maddyone but the IRA were no better. They happily slaughtered their own people in favour of a 'cause'!

Word to the wise. Don't attack a U.S. embassy.

ladymuck Fri 03-Jan-20 11:05:08

This will give European terrorist cells the excuse they've been waiting for. Our leaders may now have to face the consequences of their open border policy.

gmarie Fri 03-Jan-20 10:59:20

Depressed here in US. sad I don't think I've ever experienced such unremitting feelings of hopelessness, upset, and embarrassment.
