Two days into the New Year and Trump sets the whole of world peace into jeopardy There will be huge repercussions

Trump does not pick targets his generals do and they advise him to take action - which he did...the armed forces protect America...without them you would have 9/11 strikes every week from these religious lunatics from the Middle East.

is

I think Trump is half loved, half hated at home. Bit like the Brexit divide here was.

Iam64 Mon 06-Jan-20 18:51:59

Sparkling, some Americans seem to like him. Many others loathe and fear him.

Sparkling Mon 06-Jan-20 18:44:04

It’s very scary, who would have thought that man could have such power but the Americans seem to like him.

So far as I've seen today, Johnson has joined the other European leaders in asking for restraint from both sides. I'm no Johnson fan but I'm relieved he's done this. He's also of course, trying to keep Trump on side in his comments about not grieving for the General.
Here's hoping Johnson uses his Big Brain to work diplomatically in this dangerous game, started by the dangerous Potus.

Exactly trisher, he can't condemn Trump as he/we are desperate for a Deal, any deal. If he wants the UK to be involved, use our bases in Cyprus or anywhere else, we will have no choice.

Been watching French, German and Swiss news today - and the world is VERY VERY concerned- and says the same- Johnson and the UK will have to play Trumps's 'game and rules'.

Urmstongran Mon 06-Jan-20 18:32:10

Get Brexit Done’ a dumbed down soundbite for the dumb voter

Now then ybnb - play nice! I don’t think I’m dumb. I just have a different opinion to you about leaving the EU.
?

trisher Mon 06-Jan-20 18:30:22

Well he can't say too much he wants a trade deal.

maddyone Mon 06-Jan-20 18:02:49

BJ’s response up to now has been very restrained. In fact yesterday some posters on Gransnet were calling for him to return home immediately if not before and to react! He has now returned home and issued a restrained response.

maddyone Mon 06-Jan-20 17:58:29

Lemongrove is politically naive!!!

Pan calling kettle black comes to mind Yeahbut.

maddyone Mon 06-Jan-20 17:56:16

.....Thatcher started a war in The Falklands.......

It was absolutely nothing to do with the invasion of The Falklands by the Argentinians then?

The way people twist information to suit their own agenda is truly unbelievable!

jura2 Mon 06-Jan-20 17:33:33

What nonsense WadesNan

Fennel Mon 06-Jan-20 16:54:17

I agree it's intended as a distraction from the impeachment process and election coming up.
Still a dangerous gamble though.
I hope and pray that BJ will show some restraint. Though that's against his nature.

lemongrove Mon 06-Jan-20 16:35:25

It’s all just our speculation of course, at the moment.

WadesNan Mon 06-Jan-20 16:34:26

It seems some posters here will have sympathy and support for any government or regime as long as it isn't British or American.

lemongrove Mon 06-Jan-20 16:34:07

That’s old news trisher
DT is a very peculiar person ( to put it mildly) and said everything but the kitchen sink about Obama and Hilary Clinton, but from what I have read about him, he really doesn’t want or like, being the POTUS who causes deaths of his own countrymen, he has a horror of it ( although has no problems with anyone elses am guessing.)
Therefore he must be going along with advice to have agreed this last drone strike.

trisher Mon 06-Jan-20 16:26:37

If you want to know why watch what he said about Obama
www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ecqMwLjTqQ
He says Obama will start a war with Iran in rder to get elected hmm

lemongrove Mon 06-Jan-20 16:20:33

Getting heavily involved I should have said, as Trump has constantly said from the outset that he does not want the US bogged down in foreign wars.
The US had to help out where it could in Syria though, and it did so, nothing about it was random.

Yehbutnobut Mon 06-Jan-20 16:14:58

You said ‘up to now, he has had no truck with the US getting involved in foreign wars’ I was responding to that piece of misinformation.

However it’s clear that nothing anyone could ever say, even proving you wrong, will alter you view. So ....why bother.

lemongrove Mon 06-Jan-20 16:09:35

There was nothing random about the bombings yeahbut
By the US in Syria against ISIL in some cases and against Assad forces in others, after Assad used chemical weapons on his own people.

Yehbutnobut Mon 06-Jan-20 16:07:50

Follow the links dearly. Quite explicit.

MerylStreep Mon 06-Jan-20 16:05:30

yehbutnobut
Could you tell us where these ^random bombings* were?

Yehbutnobut Mon 06-Jan-20 16:03:31

Another (different) example US bombing 2018

Have these escaped your attention perhaps.

Yehbutnobut Mon 06-Jan-20 16:01:20

Just one example of previous Trump bombing raids US bombs Syria
