What a truth! Racist remarks are racist what ever your colour!

trisher Sun 19-Jan-20 11:51:12

GrannyLaine Perhaps it would be helpful for you to actually watch the exchange between the two people on QT. Your transcript isn't actually 100% accurate I'm not sure where you got it from. There's a link to the clip earlier in this thread. I will believe that you have accidently and not deliberately tried to misrepresent what actually happened.
Joelsnan Has anyone said that white people were the only ones responsible for slavery or that white slavery hasn't happened. Indeed modern slavery is still happening. But the biggest numbers of slaves and the entire commercial enterprise that was the sugar/slave trade was entirely organised by white people and formed the base of our economy. Even women in the 1800s knew about it and joined the sugar boycott
It's interesting that you ask about pregnancy just as a report is published showing black women are 5 times more likely to die giving birth

Perhaps you need to revise your ideas.

Free speech not allowed if you are privately educated and middle class.

Urmstongran Sun 19-Jan-20 11:45:28

Fantastic Mr Fox!

Whatever happened to Free Speech? He said nothing hurtful, inflammatory or derogatory. If anything he was defending himself against a bully.

Pantglas2 Sun 19-Jan-20 11:41:43

But why do you feel that you (and Lily Allen of course) are the only white privileged etc person to have that empathy jura2?

jura2 Sun 19-Jan-20 11:31:21

Joelsnan, I said in my post that I would not take your questions point by point.

For me, it is self-evident.

I am white, privileged, middle-class, comfortably off, well-educated - I can't help it. And I'll never know what racism feels like- because unlike some of the people we know- we have never experienced it- and certainly not day in, day out- sometimes very openly, sometimes very covertly.

So I have to wonder, what makes you unable or unwilling, to have empathy for those who do?

suziewoozie Sun 19-Jan-20 11:27:13

In response to a tweet about PM by the Secret Barrister ( who said btw that PM with his endless anti MM tweets should be aware of the Protection from Harassment Act)
Doesn’t just apply to PM does it?

Chestnut Sun 19-Jan-20 11:26:14

It doesn't surprise me, Dilly. His whole appearance and body language gives off that whiff of entitlement and superiority. The way he languished in his seat (on QT) and leaned back when talking indicates arrogance.
I'm not criticising his comment, but I don't really like him.

Galaxy Sun 19-Jan-20 11:16:23

I would be gutted if Alan Rickman had been unpleasant smile

DillytheGardener Sun 19-Jan-20 11:14:39

I didn’t see the panel show that is discussed on this post, but I can say I’ve met him in person through my work, and he was incredibly rude, patronising and condescending to myself and the other staff. His then wife was with him, Billie Piper who was also IMO a brat.
On a positive note the nicest celebrities I’ve ever met were Alan Rickman and David Attenborough. These two could not have been more down to earth.

Joelsnan Sun 19-Jan-20 11:14:38

jura2
Can you therefore please explain your issue with the questions you have placed quotation marks around.

timetogo2016 Sun 19-Jan-20 11:14:25

A knighthood for Lawrence Fox for stating the obvious/truth of the matter.

jura2 Sun 19-Jan-20 11:09:54

Joelsnan ''jura2

Typical uneducated response.
Read the book, do some in depth research and enlighten yourself, rather than criticising without a fair challenge.''

my comment was not about the existence of white slavery- I am fully aware of it. I put in '' ....'' the comments I was replying to.

Chestnut Sun 19-Jan-20 11:06:10

Anyway, I find it refreshing for a man to choose older women as they usually go for women years younger than themselves! At least he is thinking beyond their physical attributes.

Galaxy Sun 19-Jan-20 11:04:41

But he is doing exactly what he is complaining about.

Chestnut Sun 19-Jan-20 11:03:25

Well said Pantglas2. I expect LF has good reason for his comment if he genuinely finds the younger women are a pain in the neck!

Pantglas2 Sun 19-Jan-20 10:55:28

‘Imagine being so woke that you’d be unable to interact with anyone whose opinions differed to your own’. Sounds equally daft when you put it like that doesn’t it?

Oopsminty Sun 19-Jan-20 10:53:09

Imagine being so weak that he is unable to interact with women who have different opinions to his own.

He's proved to be very capable of interacting with people who have different opinions

tickingbird Sun 19-Jan-20 10:48:32

LF has received so many threats. I read one from twitter where someone states they’d love to walk up to him and unload both barrels of a shotgun into his face. For what? It is typical whenever anyone stands up to this oppression (for that is what it is) there is much gnashing of teeth and snarling from these so called liberals. He disagreed with some views. The world’s gone mad.

Galaxy Sun 19-Jan-20 10:44:31

Lawrence Fox is interviewed in the Times today, it would be hilarious if it wasnt a bit frightening. What a deeply unpleasant man. He wont date women under 35 as they tend to have 'woke' opinions. Imagine being so weak that he is unable to interact with women who have different opinions to his own.

Sometimes it feels like existing ?

jura2 Sun 19-Jan-20 10:38:30

Joelsnan ''Finally they should answer these relevant questions on UK population now.
Those who now like to cry racist:
Did their parents/grandparents come here if their own free will?
Has anyone ever prevented them from returning to their country of origin?
When their mother was pregnant with them, did they receive inferior treatment?
Have the been subjected to different levels of healthcare to the rest if the population.
At school were they segregated and taught a less comprehensive curriculum?
Are the prevented from attending university?
Are they prevented from observing their religion of choice?
The list could go on.''

your post is really quite shocking in so many ways.

I won't even get into a discussion point by point- but I have to wonder, about you and some others on here- what terrible things were done to you and your own- to make you think the way you do? I just cannot fathom, but it must have been very bad.

tickingbird Sun 19-Jan-20 10:35:37

Pantglas smile

tickingbird Sun 19-Jan-20 10:35:07

Joelsnan Excellent post.

Pantglas2 Sun 19-Jan-20 10:27:46

Ah Joelsnan but it’s not enough to simply ‘exist’, we need to thrive......
