Some Remainers won’t accept the new 50p ?

They say if it’s in their change they will refuse it and ask for 2x20p and a 10p. Oh surely not?

What if they receive them in change from a vending machine?

The Europhiles were perfectly happy to foist 30 times as many 50p coins on us to commemorate joining the EEC in 1973 and those were in common circulation for 24 years unlike the relatively tiny number of Brexit coins that will mostly go directly into collector and investor holdings!

Timetogo2016 What have anti royalists got to do with Brexit coins?

Callistemon Mon 27-Jan-20 14:26:51

I don't remember such a fuss being made by those who did not want to be in the Common Market when the 'hands clasped' coin came out in 1973, the 1992 coin to mark our entry into the single market or 1998 celebrating 25 years in Europe.

There's no accounting for the depths people will sink to! hmm

Yennifer Mon 27-Jan-20 14:29:47

I've made up my mind now, going to deface every single one I see just to be annoying lol

growstuff Mon 27-Jan-20 14:32:46

Pantglas I don't buy the Big Issue, buy poppies or put into charity boxes and I don't have grandchildren. I transfer some money to my children's bank accounts for birthdays and Christmas and buy them some smaller things (usually online).

I occasionally buy a coffee when I go to a film at my local community cinema, but I pay by contactless card because the bank charges less to process contactless payments than to handle cash. I don't pay for the tickets because I'm a volunteer at the cinema and receive tickets in exchange for the hours I work there.

How dare you call me a liar lemongrove (although you have form). I honestly don't use cash and nobody has thought of any reason why I should.

growstuff Mon 27-Jan-20 14:34:00

Callistemon I haven't eaten out in a restaurant for years. I can't afford it.

NotSpaghetti Mon 27-Jan-20 14:49:53

Callistemon - maybe we need one waving goodbye?

That seems more fitting than pretending we want to snuggle up close perhaps?

Callistemon Mon 27-Jan-20 14:51:07

Nooo!

GrandmaMoira Mon 27-Jan-20 16:10:48

You Leavers can happily drink champagne if you wish but coins are something imposed on the rest of us including those of us living in strongly Remain areas.

Callistemon Mon 27-Jan-20 16:16:12

I would collect them out of interest and historical value, not because I was happy about Brexit.

lemongrove Mon 27-Jan-20 16:50:41

I think it's up to me which posts I believe on a forum growstuff , although I have not called you a liar, so put your outrage away.

lemongrove Mon 27-Jan-20 16:51:50

exactly Callistomen interest and historical value, coins are often minted for this reason.

notanan2 Mon 27-Jan-20 17:54:56

This is nonsense. Its not "remainers" making a fuss about 50ps, its just a couple of Labour idiots who cant go 5 mins without tweeting nonsense. They prob all use contactless anyway.

And they do NOT represent "remainers"

notanan2 Mon 27-Jan-20 17:58:57

Personally Ive probably had a couple of those £500 50ps go through my wallet without noticing. Im just glad to have change on the rare ocassion that I need it I dont look that closely

growstuff Mon 27-Jan-20 20:11:01

Lying again huh lemongrove?

Your post @ 13.52.08:

"I don’t believe anyone who says they never use cash...sorry."

I have stated that I never use cash ergo you are calling ma liar.

I'm not outraged, just calling you out for what you are.

growstuff Mon 27-Jan-20 20:11:33

ma?

Should be "me a"

Callistemon Mon 27-Jan-20 20:17:22

Lord Adonis, a Labour peer who has consistently fought to reverse Brexit, tweeted: 'I am never using or accepting this coin.' because I have a HOL credit card, so why use money?

lemongrove Mon 27-Jan-20 20:29:10

growstuff If you read my post properly you would see that I believe you are mistaken ( nowhere have I said you are a liar, although you have just happily accused me of lying btw.)
We all, now and again have to use a bit of cash, and although it may happen rarely it does happen.
Let it go, let it go etc.

Callistemon Mon 27-Jan-20 20:35:12

Some Remainers won’t accept the new 50p

I am a Remainer (sharp intake of breath)

I will accept anything as long as it's legal tender
or any coins that may not be legal tender as long as they are collectors' items.

wink

notanan2 Mon 27-Jan-20 20:41:22

Labour need a twitter detox they keep embarrassing themselves

lemongrove Mon 27-Jan-20 20:48:36

What have they said notanan ?

craftergran Mon 27-Jan-20 21:09:40

Didnt even know there was a new 50p !

ExperiencedNotOld Mon 27-Jan-20 21:48:25

I did think that as a country we’d managed to grow up over the past couple of months. Obviously not.
Virtue signalling. I bet it started on Twitter.

vegansrock Mon 27-Jan-20 22:21:45

Trinkets for the deluded at vast expense.

Callistemon Mon 27-Jan-20 22:27:01

craftergran there are always new 50p coins being minted commemorating something or other!
