Some Remainers won’t accept the new 50p ?

They say if it’s in their change they will refuse it and ask for 2x20p and a 10p. Oh surely not?

What if they receive them in change from a vending machine?

The Europhiles were perfectly happy to foist 30 times as many 50p coins on us to commemorate joining the EEC in 1973 and those were in common circulation for 24 years unlike the relatively tiny number of Brexit coins that will mostly go directly into collector and investor holdings!

I asked the assistant if she could give me a different coin,

First world problem. hmm

GrandmaMoira Fri 31-Jan-20 16:26:11

Lemon - I am sorry to be argumentative. I usually avoid arguements but, unlike other political issues, I find Brexit very emotional and I do get both sad and angry. What's made it worse is that from the day of the referendum result, many leavers have been so rude crowing over us remainers who lost. I'm not saying you have done this, but many have and it just gets to me.

GrandmaMoira, At least you haven't been called uneducated, uninformed, misled, stupid, xenophobic and a Little Englander.

Count your blessings!

merlotgran Fri 31-Jan-20 16:36:27

That gets to me!

maddyone Fri 31-Jan-20 16:53:05

It’s a 50 pence coin, for pity’s sake!
Why does anyone actually care?

Merlotgran, first world problem, precisely.

GrandmaMoira Fri 31-Jan-20 16:59:10

Merlot - I'm sorry you have had these kinds of comments, which I can assure you I haven't said. I do think though that all this just proves further that Cameron should never have held the referendum and the country will continue to be divided in a way it never was before.

GrandmaMoira; I'm going to a candlelit vigil tonight at 10.30 and, as ever will be putting some personal details in my pocket in case I get attacked at some point. I still can't believe that this is what Brexit has done to this country and will never forgive those that gave people permission to be so nasty. I spoke to a lady from Amsterdam the other week; she'd moved back there permanently after 37 years in this country because she was tired of being asked where she came from and when was she 'going home'. This had not happened to her in the 33/4 years prior to the referendum.sad

Stay safe, Labaik

growstuff Fri 31-Jan-20 22:59:26

merlotgran This is a selection of what Professor Michael Dougan has been called: "remain scum, anti-democratic c**t, pathetic excuse for a humanbeing, queer c**t, deranged loser, traitor filth... " I can't post the rest because GN would delete it.

Opal Fri 31-Jan-20 23:20:15

And I can assure you growstuff, that some who voted leave have been called very similar names.

Opal Fri 31-Jan-20 23:21:08

Anyway, it's done, we're out, Cheers!!

NotSpaghetti Fri 31-Jan-20 23:28:31

The words on the coin are exactly what we will lose for many year, I fear.

rosecarmel Fri 31-Jan-20 23:31:27

It's not uncommon to mint commemorative coin .. How many have they minted? Will they increase in value?

growstuff Fri 31-Jan-20 23:54:40

I'm not claiming they haven't Opal. I was responding to merlotgran.

Calendargirl Sat 01-Feb-20 07:24:53

I hope I get one in my change, I look forward to having a look at this new coin.

lucywinter Sat 01-Feb-20 13:41:08

If you'd have been quicker, you could have bought a gold one. Only £950. ?

Aspen Sat 01-Feb-20 17:20:26

How frightfully Brexiteer to want to live in the past so mint a coin when most people at using various forms of cards.

Callistemon Sat 01-Feb-20 17:21:55

Have they all gone lucywinter? shock

Joelsnan Sat 01-Feb-20 17:25:47

Aspen
? How frightfully arrogant

Tooting29 Sat 01-Feb-20 18:25:29

Good grief, it's a coin with a message of peace and prosperity worth 50p. Will the next be the Scottish refusing Bank of England notes and coins with rose's on it. First world problem give them to the homeless if they offend but don't bore us with endless complaining.

lemongrove Sat 01-Feb-20 18:36:09

Spot on Tooting ??

craftyone Sat 01-Feb-20 18:39:47

I actually sent for a bright shiny new one from the royal mint. I want to make a wood carving and embed the coin in a design

Urmstongran Sat 01-Feb-20 21:20:53

10 million have been minted apparently rosecarmel. Shared amongst 67 million people. I have a feeling I won’t get my mitts on one. Shame. I’d like to have kept one!
