I'm sure there will still be plenty of scope for the gutter press to blame the EU for 'punishing us when the negotiations do not end well and it turns out that those who said we could get a better deal if we left were lying after all.

Good Heavens, no, Namsnanny.

I haven't read the right wing press for many, many years.

Namsnanny Thu 30-Jan-20 17:26:41

You one of the 'people' MaizieD?

grumppa Thu 30-Jan-20 17:13:47

Boris should have thought of that.

Davidhs Thu 30-Jan-20 17:03:59

Blame the EU will be replaced by “The Buck stops Here” on Boris’s desk.

It's all quiet in most of the media because their job is done. They've wound up people to the extent that they regard the EU as evil incarnate and their billionaire owners can heave a sigh of relief that they're free of any attempts by the member states to curtail their tax avoidance activities.

They're not in the least bit interested in the difficult negotiations that will go on for the next 11 months to try and get a few trade deals agreed before we final sever ties with the EU. Or in any possible damage to the UK economy... because billionaires will always be fine...

On Wednesday I saw a story in Le Monde that the powers that becin France were blaming "Brussels" for an imminent increase in electricity prices. The EU is a useful whipping boy for politicians, as well as the press, in even enthusiastic member states.

Hetty58 Thu 30-Jan-20 16:47:52

Yes it's quiet on the Brexit front. Leaving is only the start of years of negotiations and adjustments. I'm sure that will give the press (and doom/gloom brigade) more stuff to exaggerate, misrepresent and panic about!

Dont worry about the unnecessary things in life GRETA
It's all tomorrows chip paper anyway.
The space has been filled by the royals of late so....?

Greta Thu 30-Jan-20 16:25:47

After 40 years of EU-bashing I think British media may feel the loss. That's why I am curious and asked the question. Answer it I can not.

Namsnanny Thu 30-Jan-20 14:48:46

I dont as a rule bother with politically motivated threads due to the polarisation and disintegration into vitriolic arguments.

But you seem to have decided to forgoe the gradual descent into childish squabbles in favour of starting trouble from the outset.
Well done!!!

Oh and can you answer your own question please Greta?

Greta Thu 30-Jan-20 14:35:51

What will our anti-EU media now spread lies/fake news about? Some posters have commented that it has been very quiet on the Brexit front of late. What will replace the ”blame the EU” stance for all our ills?
