Hubby and I have just got back from Parliament Square celebrations (stayed longer than planned as the atmosphere was electric!) - We all made so many new friends (both leavers and remainers) - Hellllllo to the "Backing Singers"! grin And Tenby Angels Helllooo - Hopefully we will see some new members joining GN. (I've warned them about the welcoming committee, don't worry). wink
There is definitely a wonderfully, optimistic buzz in the UK!
I love this British wave of positivity.
Reminds me of the Berlin Wall coming down.

I repeat nationalism does attract these types of undesirables. I don’t differentiate - do you Kandinsky?

Chestnut Sun 02-Feb-20 16:42:01

Let's be honest, online attracts people who want a good bun fight! ?

Kandinsky Sun 02-Feb-20 16:41:59

nationalism does attract these types of undesirables

Do you think that about SNP supporters?

Kandinsky Sun 02-Feb-20 16:39:14

Callistemon

That’s my RL experience too.
It is just online you see these arguments.

SirChenjin Sun 02-Feb-20 16:38:22

What do mean how is that the fault? Who’s talking about fault?

It’s certainly correct to say that there is a racist element to the leave campaign - nationalism does attract these types of undesirables. The important thing now is for the Tories and the Brexit party is to send very clear signals to people who believe that independence from the EU gives them a platform from which to spout their bile about the Queens [sic] English that they’re not welcome.

vegansrock Sun 02-Feb-20 16:38:19

Its the fact that so many are making excuses, defending them and therefore implicitly supporting them is worrying.

Nezumi65 Sun 02-Feb-20 16:37:16

And hate crimes have risen since the Brexit vote so a valid concern.

vegansrock Sun 02-Feb-20 16:35:41

No-one is saying they are typical of all they claim to represent, but they are a scary and possibly dangerous minority element which should be acknowledged and challenged.

The earlier picture was from FB so is in the public domain it was linked to the demo but obviously I didn't take its so can't authenticate the date. Am guessing a tattooed guy with a beer belly, pint and an illiterate and offensive T shirt wont be worried about his image being out there. If you want a nazi salute picture or don't believe they exist they are quite easy to find. There is an unpleasant thug element which you have to acknowledge.

Callistemon Sun 02-Feb-20 16:29:51

Kadinsky most of us who voted remain are not like that at all, rest assured.

I would say that my neighbours are about 50/50 split and all still speaking! And my family are probably 65/35 in favour of remain but all still love each other.

ananimous Sun 02-Feb-20 16:28:09

My thread, your point?

Callistemon Sun 02-Feb-20 16:26:40

if it's your kind of thing just say so

Who is that addressed to? Anyone in particular or just general?

Extra verse added to 17million fudges! grin

Callistemon Sun 02-Feb-20 16:25:04

Were there no police there?

Someone DH knows said yesterday morning that he was walking in that area on Friday before 11pm on his way to catch a train but that fights were breaking out so he left extremely quickly.

Kandinsky Sun 02-Feb-20 16:24:57

So you can categorically say that there have been no Nazi salutes or any other forms of racist chants as Leavers celebrate

How is that the fault of the vast majority of leave voters who think behaviour like that is disgusting?
Do all football fans stop supporting their team because of a minority of hooligans?
Honestly, some remainers wont be happy until all leavers are whipping themselves with a big stick a’la Basil Fawlty.

vegansrock Sun 02-Feb-20 16:24:00

I seem to remember the outrage at bollocks to Brexit stickers, not beloved or used by me thank you very much. I do think a song sung from a platform using the f and c word directed at people and having words on a screen encouraging a mass singalong more offensive but if its your kind of thing just say so.

Callistemon Sun 02-Feb-20 16:18:59

I don't know what you think my agenda is vegan (I don't have one apart from fairness) but describing a Nazi style thug and showing a picture of a man, presumably a Beexit supporter, enjoying a pint in a pub and linking him to to those seen in Parliament square is grossly unfair. He may have a family, this is now on out the www.

Of the people I know who voted Brexit, not one fits that description.
Nor does anyone I know who voted remain fit some of the descriptions online.

They all seem quite normal, sensible and civilised even if they disagree.

Chestnut Sun 02-Feb-20 16:11:33

vegansrock - I appreciate your apology ?
These posts can get distorted in meaning. Sometimes emojis help to convey the message. I'm pretty sure no-one on these threads would support or approve of racist thugs, but it's annoying that these people have been thrown into the spotlight as being in any way representative of leavers. As I said, the far right will certainly have voted leave but that's not something any of us can control. The reason? Probably because they have racist reasons to stop immigration.

SirChenjin Sun 02-Feb-20 16:06:40

Oh buddy - you’re stirring again.

ananimous Sun 02-Feb-20 16:05:01

Your 1st post here -It's a bit of a rant veg, sorry.
You went off on one.
I only recapped on my Independence break in the city,
lie down for a bit and recover your humour.

SirChenjin Sun 02-Feb-20 16:03:46

Kandinsky Sun 02-Feb-20 16:00:49

So true firecracker.
The double standards are laughable.

Chestnut Sun 02-Feb-20 15:59:48

Firecracker123 If it were your beloved lefty Lib Dems singing 70 million Bollocks to Boris and his cabinet you'd no doubt think it was a hoot.
?????
