All change in Irish Politics ?

Could be some days before the results are finalised under the PR (STV) voting system although going off the exit poll results (with the usual percentage anomalies) it is too close to call with the three main parties all on around 22%.

There is no doubt that one of the parties is going to have to bite the bullet and work alongside Sinn Fein.

Certainly interesting to see what happens.

The pollsters appeared to get the right outcome again.

Fine Gael and Fianna Fail have said they would not work with Sinn Fein so time will tell to see if they do, power is a head turner usually.

The thought it was a younger voter who backed Sinn Fein certainly interests me. They know their countries history and recent events don't seem to register as an issue which will concern some and be of no consequence to others I guess.

Sorry for not correctly typing the names of the parties I don't know how to type emphasis marks, not sure I have even used the correct gramme there ?

What does this mean for the united Ireland campaign ?I know the EU has passed NI 's re entry if unification happens ,but will there be a call for it in the Republic

Maybe Varadkar's Brexit policies are not as universally liked as he thought.

LEO VARADKAR has lost to Sinn Fein's Paul Donnelly in his own Dublin West constituency, with Mr Donnelly topping the poll by taking 28 percent of the votes and taoiseach Mr Varadkar coming in second place with 20 percent of the votes.

Sinn Féin’s TD Paul Donnelly topped the poll in the Dublin West constituency, ahead of Taoiseach, Irish prime minister, Leo Varadkar. Elections of candidates in Ireland are by single transferable vote (STV), with each constituency returning between three and five deputies, each called a Teachta Dála or TD. This shocking turn of events has been accentuated by Sinn Féin’s Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire topping the polls in Cork South Central and beating Fianna Fáil leader Michéal Martin.

Mr Varadkar may not take his seat on the first count.

The exit poll indicates that Fine Gael secured 22.4 percent of first preference votes, closely followed by Sinn Féin, 22.3 percent and Fianna Fáil on 22.2 percent.
