Apparently Peter Phillips and his wife Autumn have split up.

I'm so sorry to read this news. I thought they were the happiest of the younger royals, living at Gatcombe with their lovely little girls.

How sad for Princess Anne. sad

GrannyGravy13 Tue 11-Feb-20 12:23:32

I know what you mean Callistemon, they are used for added Security/protection from tampering when flying into some airports. Not widely used in Europe, but the norm in Asia and Africa.

Callistemon Tue 11-Feb-20 12:20:54

Still on the subject of flying and plastic (off topic, I know) but has anyone noticed those machines at airports where suitcases can be covered in layer upon layer of clingfilm?
Time for a ban on those.

Callistemon Tue 11-Feb-20 12:19:46

I was thinking of single use plastic bags, GrannyGravy but yes, we do need to find a solution and fast.

Callistemon Tue 11-Feb-20 12:18:29

Well, that's another granny who will probably never see even more of her grandchildren again.
Why?

What's to stop Autumn bringing the children over here to visit and for Princess Anne to fly over to Canada to visit her grandchildren if she wishes?

There are lots of grandparents on here with grandchildren far and even further away, so that is another nonsense.
confused

GrannyGravy13 Tue 11-Feb-20 12:18:10

Callistemon Unfortunately a worldwide ban on single use plastic is not a viable option at the moment.

Our NHS and worldwide medical care would grind to a halt overnight. It needs a sensible approach with viable alternatives before "bans" of anything are put in place.

Callistemon Tue 11-Feb-20 12:15:52

Perhaps we are like Danny Dyer and have blue blood after all!
We probably are, Danny is one of millions!!

Callistemon Tue 11-Feb-20 12:15:05

Plastic plays a part in our life whether we like it or not
It has become an essential part of of lives. gilly and I don't know what we would do without it.
However, we are going to have find new ways of dealing with it and scientists are working on that constantly.
At least a total worldwide ban on single use plastic would be a step forward.

Emotionally the Queen will be no different to any other loving grandmother, nor will Princes Anne. They don't flaunt it in public, that is true

Jabberwok Tue 11-Feb-20 12:10:10

Wonder how Prince Harry will come back to England in March - rowing or sailing boat?!! Wonder how Greta gets around the world?!! William and Katherine are on a visit to Australia in the near future, wonder how they'll get there?!! It's not just Prince Charles Who flies!!!

gillybob Tue 11-Feb-20 12:09:10

I think you are trying to twist my words Anniebach . She is “different“ and there is no getting away with it.

Anniebach Tue 11-Feb-20 12:07:58

With respect gillybob read your own link to see why he had
to visit the different countries ,

vegansrock Tue 11-Feb-20 12:07:24

jabberwok Greta Thunberg doesn’t take flights. She travels by rail or boat. Why the need to bring her into this debate anyway other than out of spite?

Gingergirl Tue 11-Feb-20 12:06:16

Yes it is sad news..and causes heartache...but this is seemingly ‘normal’ life and no amount of royalty can protect them from it on a personal level. ?

Anniebach Tue 11-Feb-20 12:05:03

gillybob because she is wealthy? Are all grandmothers the same with the exception of the queen ?

gillybob Tue 11-Feb-20 12:03:36

He took the flight to Israel ( from Switzerland ?) after he had taken several other private flights . The article shows the map, the miles and the cost to the tax payer . Hypocrite .

gillybob Tue 11-Feb-20 12:01:13

Of course having wealth doesn’t mean you love less Anniebach I didn’t say that at all . I said she can’t be compared with other grandmothers.

Anniebach Tue 11-Feb-20 11:58:52

What a disgrace, Charles travelled to Israel with world leaders
to honour the dead of the Holocaust, attended a world conference on climate change , shame on him ?

Taichinan Tue 11-Feb-20 11:54:13

I don't know. Whether I like the monarchy or not I always feel that we're better with the devil we know. If we did away with the monarchy something else would take its place, and it wouldn't necessarily be a better something. A President Ttump-alike anyone?

Anniebach Tue 11-Feb-20 11:53:12

Why can’t the queen be compared to other grandmothers ?

Does having wealth mean you love less ?

gillybob Tue 11-Feb-20 11:51:26

So its okay if Charles chooses to fly extensively to talk about why we shouldn’t ? confused

gagsy Tue 11-Feb-20 11:48:28

Some of the above comments are quite nasty. Of course having enough money makes somethings much easier but the feeling of grief, loss and sadness are the same for all of us. No one knows what goes on behind anyone’s front door. Sometimes you hardly know yourself!
Having money is a great advantage but the price to pay is being watched and criticised in everything you do, your hair, your clothes, your expression, your children - everything, plus really vile remarks on line.
There’s good old saying in the North “you don’t get owt for nowt!”
No one wants sadness in the family.

maddyone Tue 11-Feb-20 11:44:08

As I said Gilly, official business.

Quizqueen, you’re right.

gillybob Tue 11-Feb-20 11:17:13

I really don’t think you can compare her maj with most other grandmothers quizqueen .

knspol Tue 11-Feb-20 11:17:11

Any divorce is sad but who cares that it's a royal? They're just people and their break up isn't any different to anybody else's except that they have the money and contacts to effect a smooth transition.

quizqueen Tue 11-Feb-20 11:13:54

Well, that's another granny who will probably never see even more of her grandchildren again. But, of course, even though a lot of you claim you can relate to that sort of situation, it doesn't matter, in this instance, because it's the Queen, and she's rich, so it doesn't matter. Some of you should be ashamed of your comments.
